This confused me too, it's not something you can actually do until later in the game.
Also real question for you veteran hunters. What the hell do I sell/vendor? I've put quite a few hours into this thing so far and I have sold literally nothing.
Definitely do NOT sell your steel eggs, even though the description tells you it's useless to hunters. It's used for the Loc Lac armor, which gives you nice +Transporter skills which makes those damn egg quests less annoying.
What I used to do in previous MH3U games and still do is to multiply my might seeds and sell those since they're good money.
I don't know how much I'll be able to play this game. I played for a couple of hours last night but my left hand cramped up really bad and STILL hurts.

I'm using an old 3ds XL as well, and I don't have that problem, even after several hours of playing straight. I assume you're holding the 3ds the same way probably just about everyone does? How often do you use the soft dpad? What weapon are you using, and how often do you spam the buttons? How tight is your grip?
It might just be that the awesome adrenaline filled nature of Monster Hunter is making you clench/tense up your muscles more than you need to to use your 3ds. Also, MH doesn't require a lot of APM, so if you find yourself pressing lots of buttons really quickly, chances are you can reduce your total inputs to a fraction of what you're currently doing and still be executing the same number of maneuvers- maybe more, since considered action is favored over reckless mashing.

5% carve and shiny and beak break. I think 3% from back break. Some of those numbers go up to 10% in high rank
I'm gonna start using Bows. Any unmissable armour sets for Bow users in low rank, or should I just pick something that looks awesome for now?
I like alloy armor + wild bow. Alloy has a skill which increases spread damage and the wild bow has spread as it's third charge. You might want to go for armor with higher defense as you can be rather squishy in just alloy. However you'll eventually have to get use to that if you stick with the bow and progress to higher ranks, even the bestest gunner armors take a ton of damage at that point.

I have made and upgraded every insect glaive I've seen except for the 38,000z one because I am a poor and just spent 50k on half off ammunition.
I made a cello and guitar despite using Hunting Horn one time so far.
I made a spreadsheet with all hunting horn types and upgrades, ordered by path, so that I can more easily tell which upgrades I should take, and whether or not I need to make additional horns in order to satisfy those variant upgrade paths. I don't know that I will ever complete this spreadsheet, but it's really useful to me since the horn has at least two paths with a crapton of branches.
Also, since the rows are numbered and it's one discrete path per row, I can also use it to organize my box.

Where does kiranico get their numbers? JP wiki shows 10/15/30, not sure what the book shows as I don't have it with me, but I feel like I remember seeing 5% for LR.
Based on other things I've referenced, I know JP wiki sometimes has incorrect info but guide book has been 100% correct so far and I don't know enough about kiranico.

I would imagine that songs and raw damage are priority on HH. The only attack that hits rapid enough to benefit element or status is the Forward+A that double hits. Just spamming A over and over (which includes the double hit) is the combo with the most hits in the least amount of time which is what you want for elemental damage.
But like the hammer, you want high raw for those big slow hits.

Each blade is assigned 1 of the 2 elements and its strikes deal raw plus only the one elemental type. Since the blades generally alternate strikes during any given attack sequence, the elemental damage tends to do the same. 2-element duals is the reason the Demon Dance has an even number of hits now.

A lot of them feel like proto-Tri monsters. And their armor is generally bland and uninspired (compare e.g. Khezu and Gigginow, Iodrome and Wroggi, etc.)

Yeah doing it with a charge blade was an exercise in frustration. Like it was hard to build charge because everything fucking bounces off him, he's got two aoe attacks (the sleep one can be negated I don't think the fire one can be), and on top of that he's also sits high off the ground so hitting him in general is also a bitch.

I think the double Khezu fight took that "honor" for me, but until then Gravios (and his cousin Basarios; which one is the "base" version here?) were definitely in the lead.
You know what was THE WORST? When I learned that Khezu sleeps while hanging from the ceiling. After I had burned my supplied Bounce Bombs because they were never that impressive in 3U. Fffffffffffffffff—

I would rather be fighting Uragaan than Gravios, every time. Thats kind sad since Uragaan is deadlier, easily. But it doesnt have bullshit hardness all over and isnt "generic wyvern shaped thing number 17". I have no idea what the guy who designed Khezu was on, but Gigginox is creepy without being a WTF is that design.
I was using switch axe, so I didn't bounce off the legs, but they soaked up a lot of hits that were meant for its belly, to the point where I actually broke one right near the end. It still "bounced" my hits afterward.
I think its head is the only other part that deflects attacks, so if you can reach them, you can hit its neck and tail.
Also, if it hits you with sleep gas, you can stand underfoot so it kicks you as it turns around to avoid falling asleep.
e: khezu's animation is so bad. How about that extending bite where it stands perfectly still while its neck stretches out to several times its normal length?

The barrel bombs do not self detonate (at least not the ones that actually do anything. only small barrel bombs self detonate).
So you lay the barrel bomb L's (or L+'s) and then you either throw a paintball or stone or something at it.
Unless you don't have enough time and then you kick it and get blown away for the glory and justice of the almighty bomb.

Do you do stun damage INSTEAD OF or IN ADDITION TO your normal damage when you hit a monster in the head?
