Skimming the thread and didn't see anyone answer this so just to make sure, assuming it's like 3U, each blade does one element. When running whatever the S.Zin and Zin electric/dragon duals were the left blade was dragon element when it hit, the right was electric. When you hit with one blade you only do that element, but when hitting with both you see the spark for both elements going off at the same time.
I don't know how much I'll be able to play this game. I played for a couple of hours last night but my left hand cramped up really bad and STILL hurts.
Is this an issue for anyone else? I'm on the old 3DSXL, not the new one.
I'm using an old 3ds XL as well, and I don't have that problem, even after several hours of playing straight. I assume you're holding the 3ds the same way probably just about everyone does? How often do you use the soft dpad? What weapon are you using, and how often do you spam the buttons? How tight is your grip?
It might just be that the awesome adrenaline filled nature of Monster Hunter is making you clench/tense up your muscles more than you need to to use your 3ds. Also, MH doesn't require a lot of APM, so if you find yourself pressing lots of buttons really quickly, chances are you can reduce your total inputs to a fraction of what you're currently doing and still be executing the same number of maneuvers- maybe more, since considered action is favored over reckless mashing.
The issue I think comes from the positioning of my index finger - I keep it constantly perched above the left shoulder button because it's easier to use that to keep an eye on the monster than using the D Pad - I haven't been able to figure out a way to use the D Pad while moving my Hunter about, so positioning the camera is a bit problematic.
I wouldn't say my grip is super tight, and my right hand is fine. It's just my left hand right below the knuckle between the index and middle fingers. It gets kinda swollen and red and super painful. Maybe I have an arthritis situation or something?

When I'm playing I only reach up to the L button when I am recentering the camera, and though I do that often, I always replace it. I also tend to make heavy use of the soft dpad when I play, which maybe is a throwback from MH3U when i played that? Not really sure, though I can definitely see how you'd cramp up if you kept your index finger there for extended periods.

Depending on the size of your hands, the 3DS XL might just not be ergonomic for you. You may want to get a grip. Also, as someone who has hand issues myself, I strongly recommend taking a short break every hour.
If you have a desk job, you might want to look carefully and make sure that things are ergonomic there; for me pain when gaming was an early warning sign that something was wrong at work. I ignored it and things got way, way worse. Don't ignore it!
Nice! I think I got one of those, its support right? I still like my duel healers, then again I fuck up enough/over pursue I need two healers. My wife healing me in MMO's attests to that fact.
Also I think I'm getting the insect glave better now, though my trial was just an expedition vs some of the monkeys, velociopreys and a bari, but being able to mount at will is a huge advantage, and its idle xxa combo is aces and easy to remember which is good for me because I'm a bit of a panicy dumby.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Yeah it's support and right now I have all my first stringers on support. I can see where the monster is at the start of a mission, and once I am tracking him his icon is colored so I know when he is awake or sleeping and when I can zone into the room or not.
Good for bosses you already have down, I need to keep recruiting more healing kitties for tackling new tough fights though.
I need to try a support kitty. I've been doin nothin but heals/main. I also found a cat that apparently does nothing but gather shit. I wonder if it gathers more than I can, like do I get extra stuff with him there or does it just cut down the time it takes to gather a hard set limited amount of items?

A million times this. People tend to ignore ergonomics a LOT and it's a bad idea. You can be seriously injured to due ergonomic nastiness.

Might be a matter of how big your hands are. I don't get cramps or have any pain but there's no way to hold the new 3DSXL for me that's comfortable. It's still too small even though it's the biggest hand held I've used since I borrowed a friend's Sega Nomad forever ago.
As awesome as this game is not being able to use a real controller is the reason I've been going slow with this release rather than bum rushing end game like normal.
I think they grab stuff more often than regular kitties, so they have more stuff in their inventory at the end of a mission. I want a full set of treasure kitties for when I am wearing my gathering leathers just to make each run as effective as possible.

Well, I just had my first "nope" moment in the game earlier. I was hunting Purple Gypceros on HR and Deviljho walked in. I think Gypceros noticed first because he up and left immediately. Jho followed me to the next screen and I saw the most awesome thing ever. They gave him new animations to account for the terrain. Jho climbs up ledges using his arms. I just couldn't be to mad at him for almost costing me my hunt after seeing that.
...so I did the caravan Kirin quest, and now there isn't a Kirin quest.
So am I doing something wrong or is it not repeatable? I have to hope a Kirin appears on an Expedition? Is this what we're doing, Capcom? I wanted that Kirin glaive, damn it!
My first nope moment was walking in on a hungry Khezu, hanging from the ceiling, neck elongated into a hole in the ground, drinking and making a terrible gulping sound over and over.
Ok the gore glave makes gravios a bitch. Specifically being able to pole vault up and cut him up, but its also got ridiculous range when you're red style.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

It's more like you have to grind Expeditions until you randomly get a Kirin Guild Quest, and then you can grind that as much as you want. Garuga and Basarios are the same deal.
I have a Kirin quest, and you can supposedly share them, but I have no idea how.

That assumes guild quests for something other than Velocidromes and Yian Kut Kus exist.
Twenty quests in, I have no reason to believe they do x_x.
Hit Gravios in the wings when he does his breath weapon. Alternatively, at some point, the armor breaks on his feet. Not sure how or when, since it coincided with me busting out a supercharge attack to break the belly. I'm not quite sure how to deal with his new forward rolypoly. But it was not a particularly long or difficult fight.
I am currently at HR 5, all solo. HR 4 was a horrible slog that reminded me to stop and farm out some armor and weapons. First Jaggi S, then Tetsucabra S. Now I feel a bit more prepared.
Also, I really like their solutions for including legacy weapons and armor of the missing monsters from past games. You may not see an Arzuros, but you can build his stuff, if you want.

Or you could do what I learned kills him and thats just use an insect glaive and pogo his ass to death. THATS RIGHT I POGO YOU I POGO YOU RIGHT UP!
Hilariously he's really easy to mount, like he's the jenna jameson of monsters...
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Just dropped S Magala in a shade over 10 minutes, with one cart. Even got a plate from him, which was nice. No wing parts though, probably because I was too busy shredding his legs.
Spin attack I you so much.
His armor seems pretty boss and the fight didn't seem that hard...

Well, that's MUCH better than my first time. No carts, but I took 20ish. Of course, having a useless poison stat on my SnS did not help.
Gore still scares me on normal in solo, he's just so fast and sometimes can just spam attacks like his cone breath that has surprisingly large range. I'm terrified of later versions of him.
So those of you with multi experience, are insect lances an obnoxious co-op weapon? I'm just wondering if they are long sword bad?
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
They feel lifeless and their patterns are so obvious
YKK and its asshole cousin Garuga are neat, and Tigrex is just a boss. Veloci and Gendrome are all right, for raptors.
But the other non-Raths so far have been disappointing, yeah.
Yeah, in general, I'm not liking most of the older monsters. Like, Daimyo Hermitaur, I quickly noticed I was getting annoyed at the fight instead of having fun. Gravios (or Basarios) without a ranged weapon or Glaive is a bore. And so on.
Also, brghldammit Gore Magala in Expeditions always flees by the time I have it limping, cheeky jerk.
I feel like the only obnoxious thing about multiplayer Insect Lances are the frequency with which they can perform mounted attacks, and the fact that you can't do much during that time and it's less DPS than simply wailing on the monster (until it's stunned for quite a while and you can smash the body parts of your choice). They hit a fairly wide area but it's not terrible.
Also, the Caravan Quests up to high rank just seemed... really easy. I went through the entire thing in Tetsu armor and upgraded weapons, and even the final boss was basically a chump. I got carted a few times, but I never struck out since focusing just a bit and playing cautious made the third life impossible to lose. High Rank seems slightly tougher (with crappy low rank armor, some stuff can two hit me with big attacks), but I felt like I had much more trouble in 3U.
People say the Charge Blade is overpowered, but there are some serious downsides to this weapon. For example: I just killed Dah'rhen Morahn SO HARD that the recoil from his death throes took him outside the level boundaries and I couldn't carve him.
Re: Khezu - There's icicles on the ceiling you can climb up the wall to, then leap between. This lets you get to wherever Khezu is and punch him back down to the ground level. (Similarly, if he's on the wall, climb up with him and shank him with the carving knife - a few hits is all it takes to make him flinch and fall)
One other tip: A lot of monster's breakables seem to be tougher to break with your weapons this time around. However, they're easily broken by getting a mount attack (or two) off successfully.

Yeah I deliberately went in there with dragon element duals to fuck him up as much as possible. (Fire element is hard to come by since I didn't get a YKK Guild Quest until recently and the Gore duals are just SO COOL.)
Have beaten him twice more since I was bored, with similar results. I really need some Prismwings but that is not happening.

However, having tried out my new CPP today, they seem to behave identically to the normal L and R triggers. What gives?
Charge Blade confirmed to be OP.

Check the control options in-game. There should be an option to change what they do.
