I feel really bad for the judge who will preside over your divorce court.
"...fuck it, I'm just going to put down 'irreconcilable differences.'"
Yeah, the thing is that we agree on far more things than we disagree, and neither of us will ever be able to find another person who matches up so closely.
So even if he really likes Link/Malon as a pairing, well
Game design and level design come first and second, then probably art direction.

This thread takes me back
I never got on the Zelda timeline train but i used to do this shit for Metroid, which sounds impossible but let me tell you about the debate over whether or not Dark Samus was a new form of Metroid Prime or just a consequence of setting foot on Aether after shit went down
Hell i'd probably still be doing that but i've exhausted all my material at this point

It was only a debate until the game came out really, though some people clung stubbornly to it
You see the hand of Dark Samus at the end of Prime 1. Like it's right there. Before Echoes was even announced it was pretty clear they were going in the direction of Metroid Prime taking the form of an evil doppelganger of Samus.
Let me tell you about the implied industiral age in monster hunter and the over arching themes of man vs nature
Monster Hunter's Hunter-Gatherer psuedo stone age style of fantasy is something I would love to see more of. It's the most unique version of early Humans alongside Dinosaurs I've seen in any media.

Dark Samus is explicitly the Metroid Prime.
Doesn't metroid prime end with a stinger of dark Samus forming out of the remains of metroid prime
Game design and level design come first and second, then probably art direction.
Yeah but it's like, the mechanics often dictate the story, but it's still a neat and emergent way for a narrative to take form, you know?
Me and SilverWind were just talking about the Ocarina of Time Iwata Asks, and how a strictly mechanical function for relaying hints (Navi) became the literal bookend for the entire story - the story and our understanding of the world are crucial to our experience of it, and that isn't lessened by the fact of the game design being the spring for the narrative, it's enhanced

i don't really keep up with zelda but the timeline baloney seemed cooler before it was explicitly confirmed

Yeah they do a good job of icing a good story on top of their great game, but just the whole idea that any game is ever made story-first is a really widespread misconception. Games get pretty close to alpha with barely a word written of their story.

also wyborn's mind-bogglingly passionate posts on zelda canon are beautiful and if you ever discourage him you should feel ashamed of your words and deeds
He can argue and debate and reason about it being the right ship for days and months and years on end, and I grew tired of participating in that debate well before he did--but y'all know that about him already, right? :P
Here's the interesting stuff about Navi in an older Iwata asks:
Koizumi: But when I heard the name Navi from Osawa-san, I was really happy. I had thought of [what would end up as Navi] as a system, but...
Iwata: Naming it [as Navi] had breathed life into what had been an impersonal marker.
Koizumi: Right. I thought, "This is Navi," and ideas started coming to me one after the other. Like being able to tell by color whether the person you're facing is good or bad, and if Navi talked, she could be an important guide for the story. So naming the system Navi really helped it grow.
[...]
Osawa: The addition of Navi had merits with regard to the script as well. We were able to expand the story around the idea of meeting and saying good-bye to a fairy.
And it's interesting, because the bookending of the narrative is totally obvious now that he points it out, but back before Majora's Mask came out the first time, I don't think many people read much into Navi's floating away into a window at the end.

Yeah, they are really pushing the simple controls thing.
But number of moves isn't a strict indicator of depth. I mean, Gundam Vs. is deep as fuck and any given gundam only has like 4 or 5 moves with slight variations tops.
But then again that is a 2v2 game so maybe not a good direct comparison.

It has a tribal/prehistoric flavour with anachronistic industry mixed in with a hunter gatherer based society. You have guys with armour and weapons made with animal bones fighting dinosaurs along with airships and cannons. It's as much stone age as the average fantasy game is medieval. Which makes it unique and makes me want to see more things based on that concept.

Though Wyborn is much more committed to arguing the timeline than shipping. Debates on the timeline, however, largely dried up when Hystoria was released.
I gotta say, this is one of the weird things about us--we read the triple-split timeline in Hystoria and both loved it intensely, immediately.

Then they got stuff like the bowguns and swords with mechanical bits to them and airships
Then later with tri on you got weapons that can switch modes and contain various mechanisms that interact
And thats about it???
Dark Samus is explicitly the Metroid Prime.
Yeah, you fight Ganon
It was only a debate until the game came out really, though some people clung stubbornly to it
And you go into dungeons for the doodads so you can use the doodads to beat the big bad.
A classic.
most recent zeldas have like pretty good stories

I never said it was an intelligent debate
Like I'm not even sure Kojima does that.
It's like they think they're Bioware or something

You know who does do that? David Cage.
The stories would have some thought put into them if it was
No one knows exactly how many
But nah we have at least one quadruped in the form of Suicune
