homeworld is a pretty stardard rts right? just in 3d instead of isometric
Nothing too exotic - really simple resources, a research tree. Tactical choices are where it gets interesting, with the combination of full 6 degrees of freedom, jump drives, and capital ships.
Nope, still no dice, although the repair corvette keeps my ships alive long enough to at least lower the enemy ship's health by 25% before dying and leaving me with nothing but my mothership.
I don't know, either I'm missing something (that the game hasn't told me?) or this is just, well, bad.
e: are formations vital for combat? Because they look cool, but I don't know anything about potential advantages...besides, all ships seem to break formation as soon as battle commences
IIRC yes, formations really, really matter in the game. I think I got the most use out of the claw formation for fighters and other small craft.
The only time you would ever use the sphere formation would be when you want to surround a single object and concentrate all your fire at the center.
I'm not sure how much formations matter in the remaster because it has both the HW1 formations and HW2's tactics settings which I think might override the benefit of the formations?
I liked Cataclysm more than Homeworld, actually. Just something about the conceit of being a lone mining ship having to scavenge and upgrade itself and build a fleet on its own really did it for me. It's odd because that's basically the same thing that Homeworld does, just replace mining ship with mothership, but... I dunno. My brain is weird.

Formations are not super vital. You can easily go through the game without ever using them.
As to the second mission, you do not need to attack the Carrier. In fact, you shouldn't attack it. The Carrier leaves of its own volition either after a certain amount of time, or after you destroy a certain amount of fighters. The mission will end when it begins its retreat.
The 3rd dimension never really came into play for me. The maps are pretty much 2d. The 3d is just there to make the game look really, really good.
3d is more important in multi
you hyperspace in directly under the enemy fleet outside of their sensor range and launch all your shit and pearl harbor them from below where they have no pickets

Steam thread, Diablo 3 season 2 started like two weeks ago and I just found out yesterday
It almost makes me want to dredge up the D3 thread for 6 hours but all I have to say is how disappointed I am in myself for the fact that I'm going to level up another character to 70 to get those stupid season transmogs

Hey, I'm doing that too! Well I haven't really been able to play for a week, but I've got a barbarian to 50.

Homeworld is as good as I remember it. Nothing like cranking out salvage corvettes and stealing ion array frigates!

It's no rush, considering last season was for 6-8 months or so?
Shiiieeet, not looking forward to mergin my S1 inventory with the vanilla stash...

Just levelling to 70 can be done pretty quickly if you get someone to powerlevel you.
So Homeworld is pretty cool and looks great.
But uh, is it also known for being really, really hard? I can't even seem to beat the second mission o_0
One of the infamous aspects of Homeworld which IIRC nobody figured out until some time after the game's release is that the game's difficulty scales relative to how many ships you bring with you from one mission to the next. As a result, if you do really well in the early missions it can become unwinnable because the AI gets ridiculously huge fleets later on
I don't know if the remastering changed or removed this feature.
the trick is to scuttle all your unnecessary ships before ending the mission, because your carried-over resources are not factored into the difficulty scaling and you can just use them to rebuild your fleet on arrival
What? Holy shit I never knew that and I made it pretty far before I finally gave up. And here I was thinking that I didn't do well enough in the early missions.

It happens automatically. I honestly barely noticed a difference aside from an increase in trash rares and stuff that I was saving for whatever reason.
Early mission: Don't attack the carrier. Attack the fighters that are enroute to your mothership. The carrier leaves after you've killed enough fighters.
During another mission, have all of your ships attacking only the incoming asteroids. Have your support frigate and repair corvettes healing the mothership non-stop.
Always try to get all the resources at the end of a mission. It's a shame that they didn't port over the auto-gather from HW2, but it's still important.
Use the defensive tactic for defensive bonus and aggressive for dps increase but damage taken increase.
Formations are pretty important for maximizing attack on target and spreading out damage across the formation.
Fighters are only good against other fighters.
Corvettes are your anti-fighter and anti-corvette ships and in some cases, anti-frigate.
Frigates are anti-fighter, anti-corvette and anti-frigate.
Capitals are anti-everything but fire much more slowly.
You typically want a healthy mix of fighters, corvettes, and frigates and few capitals (early on). You want at least 1 support frigate and a few repair corvettes, if anything, solely so that your fighters don't have to return all the way back to the mothership to dock.
The Kushan's are a bunch of Kleptomaniacs so steal everything: two salvage corvettes will steal a frigate. 4 will steal a capital. Always steal ships. Always.

I suppose that's why I lasted as long as I did. I used to reload the third mission many many times just to try and capture all the frigates.

the Steamworks update to Resident Evil 5 will apparently be adding in all of the game's the previously console-exclusive DLC, including the Lost in Nightmares and Desperate Escape campaigns
The asylum level in Thief gave me some really good chills, it's pretty well made. Except for the (few) jump scares, I hate those
Unfortunately, it wasn't as good as the shalebridge cradle
Nothing is ever as good as that.
I'm working my way up to that. I started up Thief 1 recently, and after a short time of frustration (staying stealthed is HARD) I just knock everybody out, which eases progress considerably. It's got some cool ideas, and I dig the world they establish (I'm up to mission 3). I can't help but chuckle every time a guard comes looking for me though, because it's the same animation the Many grunts in SS2 use

same but with garlic.

the struggle is real
Well it's both games with updated graphics. They actually put effort into this thing. Totally worth it imo, but I'm bias
Steam
My computer can run it on high!
Yeah but I wanted to buy it for less money!
The cradle is a work of art
It's like the team channeled all their creativity into one level, and sort of left the rest of the game weaker
I still think it's a good game, but nothing else even touches that one level
