In that you don't have to equip a mentor and grind out some reputation meter with them
Learning new skills is only gated by your overall training level, which you raise by doing missions, and then do an advancement test
EDIT: Also, to clarify, I've almost completely finished my advancement tests just by learning every skill available, which is usually enough missions to unlock the next advancement on its own

Digging the new thread title.
Only an hour left til I can play this. What to go!? I went female saiyan last time, very Videl-esq in appearance. This time? Gonna try Friezas race or a Namek I think. Really tempting to redo the fem-saiyan though.
How good is Super Saiyan(+2,3), and will I miss it?

SSJ is a lot different this time, basically it's just a mode that you toggle on and depending on how much Ki you spend you get SSJ1, 2, or 3
It's just fairly large stat boosts but it slows down your Ki charging, and in SSJ3 I believe you regain no Ki from attacking
Namekian are the undisputed kings of the game right now with a Stamina build, but Frieza are pretty fun and have a really great basic attack chain too
I still don't have Golden Frieza yet, but I just got Potential Unleashed, hah
Super Saiyan costs some of the ki that you would gain by doing general fight-stuff, but activating it doesn't take away the ki you already have, so you can save up a bunch, pop Super Saiyan, and immediately use some skills if you want.
Super Saiyan makes some/all? charged skills teleport around when fully charged.
This game is pretty dang fun! Combat has more depth than I expected, there's a charming veneer of nostalgia over everything, and stuffing Buu's fat face full of pudding is satisfying.
Also I can play a buff Majin lady with a >:3 face.
so... human transformation. Not exactly digging it. While the power pole has reach thats all you can do while on KinToun. No ultimates, no supers.. shit can you even stamina break on it?
Not sure, but people are saying it's pretty safe poking, with the main downside that you're not doing something else instead. If it's quick enough to switch on and off, it should be good.

Just go for Unleashed Potential
It's SSJ-esque in its stat bonuses and anyone can use it
I can't believe how fucking bad the Elder Kai's training is. And it's mostly down to how it handles controls. This game is fucking TERRIBLE at reading dual-button inputs, there's way too little time between button acceptance for a command. Was just doing #4 and I can't tell you how many times that I hit Y+B near the end of the combo to do a knockback, only for the character to fire off a ki blast instead.
Also just finished the Just Guard Advanced and wow the timing on that is so busted close that I can't see a reason to ever go for it.
The dual input commands are really terrible to do, and it's a real shame because knockbacks and throws can be extremely useful
I don't have any trouble with doing the knockback raw, so it makes me think the issue is with animation canceling during combos. You try to cancel an attack into the knockback, but the heavy attack or ki blast take priority over it. The problem might be that you can't animation cancel into the knockback at all, meaning you need to wait a bit for your attack animation to finish before you push the buttons.
+1

I have very mixed success with weaving knockbacks into combos.
I also need to start using the "fly around behind them" move rather than z vanishes during knockbacks
ugh yea was trying to do training number 4 and I was able to get a reliable combo up until the last part.. where I would do the attack but piccolo would fly vertical out of the way of the final hit...

Yeah, that's frustrating, mostly because it's not clear what the problem is until you fuck around. What you need to do is input the relocation command sooner, almost right on top of the knockback hit. If you don't input it fast enough, your mentor will fly out of the way of the final hit.
Also pro tip: disable voices during the challenge training, for your own sanity.

Also I watched a video about comboing into the knockback. Apparently you can only cancel a normal attack into a knockback if you do it immediately or after a delay, doing it somewhere in the middle will only get you a ki blast or heavy attack. It's pretty finicky.
Quick question about Buu's family, does the type of food I give them effect the quality of the item I receive? Or should I just keep giving them water?
Also when playing the game with a PS4 controller on PC I get this pretty annoying bug. Sometimes after talking to an NPC or picking up an item in town, my right analog stick will stop working until I open and close the pause menu. It's especially annoying when doing milk deliveries or when I hop on my vehicle and then need to dismount in order to open the menu. Anyone else experiencing this?
It's pretty dang dumb how you can't see any of your bars outside of combat. Just gotta guess how many points you need to reach the next threshold.
It looks like with the Buu family, higher quality food either has no effect on the quality of item you get or it only increases your chances of getting something better. Not sure which.
There is a issue with summoning the Dragon in the online lobby it crashed when i wished for the TP medals and again when i got the Crystal battle suit (I LOOK SO DUMB.)

Yeah, works offline but seems to be 100% crash rate online.

Welp, Emperor's Blast doesn't quite punish z-vanishes like I was hoping it would
It can sometimes be useful with the Frieza race's attack chain where they kick, teleport, and then hit them with the back of their fist because it leaves them with their back facing the target and you can OCCASIONALLY get off an Emperor's Blast on them afterward, but it's by no means reliable
Unlocked the Elder Kai Potential transformation today. It's interesting. It requires 5 bars of ki to activate, but doesn't actually consume those bars. Once you're in the mode, nothing seems to knock you out of it. It doesn't drain ki or stamina, and running dry on either seems to do jack shit to it. About a 10% increase in damage, dunno about other factors.

it's around a 10% bonus to all damage, and a 5% reduction to all damage taken
It's a nice all-around form, especially for races without good forms of their own like Human and Majin
They are a currency used at the TP Medal Store (open from Friday to Sunday). You can buy rare clothing, accessories, or skills there.
edit- Speaking of Mentors. Man, Nappa has been the most... surprisingly supportive mentor out there. He gives you credit where credit is due, gives you mad props for getting a Z rank and encourages you when you get less than stellar marks.
I expected him to be an asshole.
Yamcha on the other hand was depressing. The entire time he just sounds like, "Why are you even my student?!"
Nappa's just putting that degree in childhood psychology to good use.

Edit2: Or not. It just stretches things and makes everything ugly. I'll deal with my black boxes.
Man the devs are lazy sometimes.

Got my 7 today, decided fuck it, I'll do a character appearance change.
As soon as I get to the appearance menu the game crashes.
I was freaking the fuck out logging back in. Thankfully it didn't use up the DBs, but that's just, like... Why. How.
It's reproducible, too. Every time I choose that option, game crashes.

Will there be character guides that help you build a viable character out of the gate?
Are there character builds similar to the Human Girl super fast ki blasting powerhouse of XV1 (great for pve)
Did they do anything to reduce the infinite juggling of the later PQs of XV1 (effing Goku/Gohan/Vegeta Kamehamegangups)?
How destructable is the environment? Better than XV1?
I guess humans aren't the strongest enough, yet.
