Could SNL return to being Sofa King great?

Holy crap, SNL did something funny again. Between this and Dick in a Box, I'd say their frequency of lol moments has increased quite a bit compared to a few years ago.
The best stuff on SNL now is their non-live shit. I get the feeling that Andy Samberg joined SNL so he could get paid to make more videos with a bigger budget.

I know where I came from, but where did all you zombies come from?
or more to the point, didn't avoid the OC like the plague?
All I got from this sketch was "hey we're gonna go ahead and butcher a song that you really like k?"
the song was apparently from the original scene that they are making fun of.
edit: watching the show (which i never have) is not a requirement for a farce to be funny.
I hadn't seen the original scene either until I saw the link at the end of the video.
Honestly it's kind of sad if you do remember the scene that well considering it's from close to 2 years ago. I remember it now that I've watched it again.
I don't have to explain the damn joke to you because its a simple gag that a child could understand.

The weird thing is, if you took every SNL episode for the last 10 years, you might be able to edit together 2 decent shows. Maybe 3 if you stretch. Most of the sketches would feature The Rock, Jack Black, or Christopher Walken.
The Peyton Manning United Way sketch was brilliant. You could tell the premise form a mile away, but it was still amazing, especially the fact that it looks like little kids actually got pegged by footballs from an NFL quarterback.
Weekly Update is usually good for a chuckle or two every week, but you can pretty much count on one hand the funny sketches they've had all season. Thank goodness dvr lets you fast forward through the crap.
edit: man, the original scene is way funnier than the parody
hahaha

I hope I'm not the only one who hasn't laughed at any of the SNL links in this thread.
It just seems like they stretch the skits way too long for the jokes they try to pull off. Two and a half minutes of people stiffly saying "Sofa King" with new adjectives attached? I don't know how this signals a triumphant return to form.

I don't see it as a "triumphant return to form" either, I was just surprised that it made me laugh.
That sofa king joke was executed poorly. Too much setup, plus unnecessary racism. Oh, and then flat delivery, followed by hammering the joke for too long.

Or I could turn it into a general SNL thread, I guess.
When Peyton Manning hosted.
This is probably my favorite in recent memory
it would have been better if it was shorter and he just full out raved when the beat picked up
Okay, I'll admit it.
That made me laugh.
