Welp, might not be playing tonight. I had my wife turn on my Xbone while I was at work to download BF4! I came home and I didn't have enough space for it to install...currently at 2%.
I think theme matters less to me than pace. I want the gameplay to be dialled back to the pace of 1942-2142, rather than the increasingly fast BC2-BF4. TTK went down drastically with BF3, and I've come to really dislike it.
I bet it'll be 2143. I doubt they'd have gone to so much trouble to make the storyline be the backstory for 2142 if they didn't want to keep playing in that world.
My dream is still that they use the Command and Conquer license for something though.

Loaded up this morning to explore. Apparently I have a boatload of gold battlepacks? Any reason to save them to open or just crack them all (I already opened a bunch)?
I kinda think the existence of Battlefront means 2143 won't be the announcement. I'd love to see Vietnam and or Korea though, especially if they bring back blasting music with your vehicles.

Battlefront and Battlefield 2142 are vastly different, though. There are literally zero toes being stepped on between the two of the them. This contention is the one thing that I am baffled the most by: Star Wars = sci-fi...so futuristic Battlefield must be the same thing! No...there's a wider range of sci-fi settings that exists, and 2142 doesn't even come close to the fantastical sci-fi setting of Star Wars.

Oh for sure, and Battlefront is way more casual than a Battlefield game, but I have my doubts that EA will allow one developer to potentially impact the sales of a franchise they just spent an assload of money to secure.

I will admit, I do have a habit of overestimating the average gamer's knowledge when it comes to these things. I mean, okay, we know that there are varying degrees of sci-fiiness a game can tap into, but I keep forgetting that there are literally scores of people out there who actually will think that Battlefront and a future-setting Battlefield would be direct competitors in terms of setting and genre.
That being said, there is one possible reason that the next Battlefield might be a sequel to 2142: CoD Infinite Warfare. Battlefield has tended to go for the tit-for-tat setting competition with CoD...and this new Infinite Warfare game is giving me serious 2142 vibes (Titans, gunships, combat walkers-that-aren't-mechs, futuristic looking urban combat while still using ballistic weapons).

This, so much this. BCs turned BF into AD/HD pewpew type of game. We already have CoD for that kind of gaming (and I hate CoD too).
EA has Battlefront AND Titanfall 2 for futuristic shooter. They don't need a third one. And the new CoD is scifi stuff too. That would be 4 games to fight for sales. Not good.
The salesperson from EA is saying that the new BF will be something unexpected. So might be something totally weird, or just marketing talk or the guy never visits forums or internet in general.

That's kind of the norm, though. Back when WW2 was a big setting, we would routinely have 4+ WW2 themed FPS games competing for attention (this has also been the case during the modern-era setting, too). RTSes are even worse at doing this. I mean, it's not unprecedented, and from a gamer perspective, it's pretty awesome. Sure, if I were a game dev and had to have my game compete (even if it was a perceived competition due to the nuances of the setting implementation going overlooked) with those other games, it would suck.
Oh well...just need 45-57 hours and then all speculation won't matter anymore.

Bad Company was more of a more casual spin-off, not an actual Battlefield sequel, and the TTK + movement in that one was much more closer to BF2 than BF3/BF4 were. BC2 is still an amazing game to play today too.
--- I mean, it's not unprecedented, and from a gamer perspective, it's pretty awesome. ---
But why? Why not different settings so players can choose what to play? Why should every developer do similar games? Isn't it in fact bad for players if every game is almost a carbon copy from each other?
I know that I'd rather have different games to play...
But anyway, I will get the newest BF if it is not about modern warfare. 1942 and 2142 are the best Battlefields for me, and either would be good. So let's hope they do something like them, no Titanfallish/CoDish/BF4ish mediocre stuff.

Because it's just how gaming trends are. WW2 games are in? CRANK OUT ALL THE PANZERS AND SHERMANS! Oh, the WW2 wave ended and modern is in? BRING ON THE ABRAMS AND SU50S! Hmmm...future is becoming the "it" thing? JETPACKS EVERYWHERE! It happens in every genre and has been going on for the last 20+ years. By diverging from the trend, publishers risk not cashing in on what the gaming public perceives as what's popular. And it's not that the games are carbon copies of each other...nuances matter (to use a different style of game, I like ARK: Survival Evolved, but can't stand DayZ or Rust...it's the slight differences to the open-world survival builder game that will make a particular game in that gaming-trend designed game that will appeal to different people).

I'll be online tonight around 7:30 or 8 PT on X1 if any of you lads want to party up and tell me how to not be the absolute worst!
I can tell you right now how to not be the absolute worst: have me in your squad. I'm passably decent enough on PC with KB&M...but put a controller in my hands and I can empty half the box of an M249 and hit all the air around the stationary target I was "aiming" at (and this is with aim assist on).

Where everybody is?!
Darn Overwatch is stealing too many people away...
I saw a DICE tweet saying we're going to be surprised. Feels like WW2/WW1 is all but confirmed because there's absolutely nothing surprising about a future warfare game in 2016.
How do I get this bloody game to stop recording clips?
BTW, Custom...something I'd suggest doing: play through the campaign. At the end, you get a choice of one of three endings (and can replay it to choose the other options) which will result in you unlocking three guns in multiplayer. The guns unlocked are the P90, the M249, and something I forget because I never use it. The P90 and M249 are absolutely hella baller and worth going through the campaign for.

How long is the campaign on easy?
I played a few matches on dragon canyon or whatever that map is. Ended up in the top 10 (of 25) on my team each round!

On easy? Not sure, but on hard it's about 4-6 hours or so. Of course, that's assuming you know how to aim (holy crap, it took me about an hour or so just getting through the first mission on hard...I'm definitely going to need to fine-tune stick sensitivity while ADSing).

Am I the only person who hopes they go back to the more rigid roles for classes that BC2 had? Or at least announce a bad company 3 soon.
As for settings I honestly can't think of one that wouldn't feel overdone. We just have a shitload of games. Frankly hardline felt pretty unique in that regard.

Which
Might be kinda cool actually.
You jerk! You just made me imagine Outlaws using Frostbite and made my heart cry a little.
If that happens, all those pistol only/Operation Locker servers were totally worth it.

Titanfall is not Battlefield though. You can't kill the robots by crashing helicopters into them. Or the ever popular jihad jeep.
