Shadow is a mark 1 tank going over a trench maybe?
I honestly just thought the same thing.
The look on his face says "oh my god.I'm about to be crushed by 1000 ton metal dragon from the dirty huns"
I saw a kid get handed a JB poster by who I presume was his parents outside my store today....he tore it in half infront of his horrified parents.....There's hope for our youth yet!
This would fit right in with the Alt-WW1 rumors, and Battlefield has never been all that realistic. Also, the "coming soon" font is nearly identical to the Battlefront font, and one of his friends said "So this is Battlefield 1, you told me this". Could be trolling on the last part and this is all a coincidence, but still.
Love that dudes art work. He's really talented if that's what the new game is based on.... I'm hyping hard

Hmm...this is giving me a strong Iron Brigade/Trenches vibe (minus the whole tower-defense thing)

To be honest, none of the other Battlefield games have really captured the realism of actual battles.
That's true. I just think ww1 is limiting. Unless they do shit like let people single carry and hipfire the mg's of that era you are gonna have a whole lot of bolt action rifles and static mg's. And that sounds fun to me but not as the focus of a mainline bf game.
I just kinda hope that's not it. It's just a nitpick thing with me but I'm not a huge fan of alternate history stuff.
I'll still totally play it if it looks hella cool.
Edit: did a little googling on that picture. Apparently "1920+" is the name of a series of concept art pictures he's been doing. So it's a project based off his idea of "1920+" I'm wondering if it's not it's own self contained thing or if Dice took it and ran with it?
Looks like that art is for something else entirely and it was just a coincidence like I figured. A digital board game or something that he's developing. Oh well.

Ww1 just seems like it would have to be a side game with the lack of variety in transport options and lack of armor until late war.
Static fronts aren't necessarily a problem though because some maps could simply be to cap and hold the enemys trenches in succession. And eastern front combat would be more mobile
And what am I going to do, jihad wagon? Jihad horse? Simply won't do.

I saw a DICE tweet saying we're going to be surprised. Feels like WW2/WW1 is all but confirmed because there's absolutely nothing surprising about a future warfare game in 2016.
I kind of want to rewind and touch base on this post: Thinking about it, if it's going to be something surprising, WW1 is right out, too. People are expecting WW1 as the setting. So surprise won't be what people feel, people are just going to feel vindication.

To be fair, the only people expecting WW1 are the hardcore fans that have been paying attention to leaks. The general public would be surprised as hell by WW1. Even Giant Bomb laughed it off like it'll never happen and it's probably going to be a future game. The only way they're going to surprise even the people expecting WW1 is to pull some crazy shit like multiple alt-history timelines covering not only WW1 but WW2 and other stuff.

Maybe they'll go even further and announce Battlefield: Pike and Shot. In fact, forget guns altogether. We could get Battlefield: Medieval, or maybe Battlefield: Neolithic. Wait, no; Battlefield: Jurrasic! Alright, that's my guess. New Battlefield game is about dinosaur combat... on an alien planet... with muskets.
You think people complained about snipers and suppression before...
Mortar spam all day e'eryday! In fact, it'll be the default starting gadget on the Support class! *and* we'll let ammo boxes speed up the mortar resupply time to give it that authentic WW1 feel.

Sapper class. You spend the whole round digging towards the enemy. You might die randomly in a tunnel collapse at the end anyway.
Engineer class. You make a trenchline before other players can spawn. The first shell of the enemy's artillery barrage destroys all your hard work. You don't notice because you died from the mustard gas inside.
Pilot class. You get to fly one of the premier aircraft of the age. Good chance your plane's engine dies on takeoff, and you leave earth in a different way than expected.
Tank crewman. Your lumbering beast of a warmachine will always break down in no-mans-land. Death by carbon monoxide poisoning, artillery shell, or enemy fire. None of which you ever see.
"Let's just say there will be giant balloon-like airships"
What on earth could that be...
I dunno about that...alternate-world maybe. WW1? Maybe not so much. When the question is about flyables, rigid airships don't exactly spring to mind as something a player wants to pilot.

Zepplins were deployed as bombers in WW1, so even without the alt-world twist it still fits. I don't think there's any way they do WW1 without adding fictional elements, though. It's either that or a combination of straight WW1 + WW2.

So basically you're thinking a rigid airship would be deployed like the bomber in the China Rising maps? I'm not sure if that qualifies as being an answer to a question regarding flyables (since you don't actually fly the bomber). And I just don't see how they could be used as a pilotable aircraft. Even with generous liberties taken, a period-appropriate airship just wouldn't be actually maneuverable (or useful). If it actually is anything to do with WW1, I desperately hope that it'll be alternate-world tech...otherwise, this'll be the first Battlefield I'm skipping.

It could be like the Crimson Skies airships - basically aircraft carriers with mounted turrets that fly. There'd be precedent given that's roughly how 2142's Titan Mode worked.
I'd strongly prefer real WW1, but alternate reality seems the best we'll realistically get.

This would be baller as all get out. Even better, though, would be Kirov-style airships from Red Alert.....since that would mean a Battlefield/Red Alert crossover. And the thought of that tickles me in ways normally reserved for significant others.

That's kind of what I was thinking. A big part of why people wanted a sequel to 2142 was because of Titan mode and the other cool gameplay stuff that game did, not necessarily because of the futuristic setting. Throw Titan mode into WW1 with some historical tweaks and everything they learned from BF4, and we could have an amazing game. I guess we'll see in 10 hours.
If it is ww1, I am curious as hell how they're going to do a plethora of weapons and upgrades. That's a pretty recent type thing that I'm aware of. How are you going to get all the kit options for your standard infantry rifle?

Looking more likely that the title is Battlefield 1, though. Some more swedish stuff popped up.https://pbs.twimg.com/media/ChttN_hUkAEgzbb.jpg:large

Each match starts with a 45 minute artillery barrage into the spawn points. Anyone still around afterwards gets to play.
