It turns out the new trade event is what killed my route. I played it a little! I don't think I'll be able to get higher than 70 though, I think that's for type 9s and or poop socking
Yeah. They got all uppity after one player reported that his friends logged off for the night but kept their ships afk with active beacons at each station.
They got extra mad when someone pointed out that 3+ players working in concert could shuffle their jumps around so they could all trade at full capacity.
Me? I just want some frickin micro-jumps. It is dumb to see these stations 200,000+ ls from the nearest jump point when no warm blooded trader would ever bother doing business with them. They'd starve to death in no time.

From what I know of the game, they really should consider some more speed options at all levels.

New features in a game of this kind of complexity will likely have exploits. It's no reason to get worked up into the kind of froth that they do over on the FDEV forums.

@Tube
That's more than I contributed . I avoid the trading goals because they aren't very profitable. Even if you can find sources of material nearby (good luck), the destination system will be sucked bone dry of anything to sell on your return trip. At best you will have one-legged trade routes.
However participating in this goal with even one ton is great for anyone who wants a Clipper. If the discounts keep progressing like this, clippers will be available for upwards of 30 percent off. Participants will have 14 days to reach Baron and acquire the funds to purchase one. (I think we're at 23% right now? )
Some people are saying the discounts count for everyone regardless of participation . I haven't tested that. Imo it is worth it to fly on over and deliver at least one cargo hold of metal.
@MuddBudd
I wouldn't mind flying that distance if they paid appropriate shipping fees

I was about to google "elite poop socking". I thought better of it.

Are you not familiar with poop socking?:
I am, uh...not familiar with poop socking. I'm almost going to be disappointed when this turns out to mean something and is not actually an elaborate prank played on "space-'lubbers."

The idea is that you poop into a sock so you don't have to leave the keyboard and stop grinding whatever game you are playing. I think the term started on the WoW forums?
I've been pretty successfully ranking up, now I have a mission called "imperial summons" to go out and get access to one of their limited systems. Do I need to do this now to keep progressing, or can I safely ignore it and keep working on my imperial rep?
Empire stations are so beautiful, it's a shame they are all in Empire space.
That's actually an Alliance station.

I officially have the 6 million in assets I need to buy the Vulture. I am going to save up another couple million to outfit it for light combat. I have been rocking this cobra for so long. Im going to miss it. I have been going toe to toe with Anacondas and Pythons. I have a feeling I will have to back off them for a while. Large Beammers are going to be pretty sweet though. I have lined up a couple of warzones to mines for credits so it's just a matter of spending another night looking.
Did a system survey while I was hunting down another warzone last night. Its worth 25k base! I will probably sell it while I am searching for my Vulture.

Much further back, its an EverQuest term, actually.

So I've spent some time trading and bounty hunting using the x52 pro hotas. I really like it (aside from having to use software to bind two of the throttle buttons) but I think I'm going to have to return it.
Many times when I let the stick/throttle idle for more than a minute or so, the unit will power off for a split second when I move the stick. This screws up the stick calibration and I need to disconnect/reconnect the cable from the stick to the throttle in order to reset the stick's deadzone. The MDF flickers for a second and windows makes a device discovery noise. While the build quality of the stick, throttle, and buttons are great, the connection from the throttle to the stick seems really flimsy.
I've looked around and seen others with similar issues - I've tried changing the usb hub power settings to make sure they aren't going to sleep (though this hasn't helped, and since the unit never actually looks powered off, but for a split second, I don't think it's losing power). I've tried moving it from port to port on my PC (motherboard and case slots both) and downloading the most recent win7 saitek drives.
It's a bummer, since I really like the setup, but I'm definitely not OK with what's going on with it right now.

That is sounding pretty weird. The only problem I had with my x52 pro was trying to use it on the USB3 slot on the side of the case. It did not like that at all. Tried a port on the back and it has been smooth sailing ever since.
@firewaterword
Does it only happen when the whole hotas is idle? Are there any buttons or switches that you're not using? Could you setup a macro or something to get the hotas to repeatedly fire a do-nothing button for all eternity?
In other news, it sounds like citizens are meant to fly has completed. I'm reading reports of 15 mil clippers at Nu.

Do a google search for "disable usb selective suspend" and follow those directions. Than go into device manager, right click your divice and uncheck the box to sleep the connection
Yeah I have a x52 (though not pro) and I've never had any issues like that.

It happens when the whole unit has been idle, say for as long as it takes to go grab a glass of water or what have you, and it's when I touch the stick, not the throttle. I've checked to make sure selective suspend is disabled in power options, and unchecked the "allow the computer to turn off device to save power" box on all of my USB hubs in device manager. I do use all the buttons on the stick - though I usually don't bother to load the profile I made that rebinds the throttle mouse/wheel clicks.
It's really weird since at no point do any of the leds go out, and the MFD stays on. My guess is something odd is going on in the stick's connection to the throttle. Otherwise the unit is great.
I suspect quality control as well. Funny though, I had an issue with a USB 3 drive powering off and tried turning off the power-saving features for USB. It fixed it, but now my USB devices continue to receive power after I turn off the computer. It drives me nuts. I guess there's always the power supply.
I have a CH Pro Throttle backordered at Amazon. Hopefully I'm not done with this game when it arrives in June.
I'd like to buy a ship that has a chrome or mirrored finish.
Yes, that'd mean that my ship would almost be invisible to the naked eye at most viewing angles in the blackness of space.
They had chrome paint schemes for the Cobra and I think Viper a while back, and yes, in space they make you damn near invisible.

As a thank you for folks trying to help with my joystick issues, and for other advice in general, here's one of the more profitable runs I've come across recently. You'll need to be able to dock at outposts, mind you...
Run beryllium out of Gilgamesh: Macan Orbital to LP 339-7: Gell-Mann Ring, and run imperial slaves back. About 2.4k cr/ton.
I came across this thread regarding the x52's cable on Frontier's forums today. The poster seems to have a similar issue, and fixes it by hard-wiring the stick and throttle together. Maybe it'll be useful.
I picked up a Clipper at the discounted price. I don't really care to fly it right now, but I couldn't pass up that deal. So anyway, I used the Sidewinder Taxi Service to retrieve my Asp. Man, the sidewinder really is a great little ship! It's such a joy to hop back into one for a little while.
I'm thinking of hopping into this with a few PA guys to pal around with.
what should I get for a decent HOTAS set up? I played this stuff way back when with keyboard and mouse, but I just get horribly numb fingers anymore from trying a keyboard claw when I play flight sim games, anymore.
basically, all I have is an old Microsoft Sidewinder with a throttle nob on it.
I'm willing to spend some money on a good joystick, throttle and rudders if I need it. I have TrackIR, which I use for Arma3 a lot.
also, I'm a leftie so something that can accommodate that would be appreciated.
Did you find/buy anything? I love the T16000M and it's left-hander friendly, but throttles would seem to be an issue.
So with some research it sounds like the Powerplay update might be the one I jump in on. The thing I am most interested in is missions and exploring, and there is some talk of improving both those systems.

I'm going nuts wondering what the big secret is in that update.
Oh cool, new community goals. If anyone's interested in teaming up for some criminal bounties in Empire space, I'll be in Mictlan and probably Nehet at a later date.

To be fair, it's apparently possible to game the beacon system to jump 7-9 friendlies into one instance.
Note to self, when I get this game, go solo mode so I can avoid people like... whoever that is.

For sure.
I only do either Solo or Group. I've little real need or desire to do multi.
But if people want to then have at it.
I'm happy they have multiple playing options to pick from.

Personally I sort of think rudimentary colorings like that should be available in-game.
While the red clipper tempts me, I'm not sold. Maybe if they would have made it fire engine red....
(someday they'll make a black clipper and it will sell like crazy).
