Also because of this thread I checked out the FE demo.

The tiny feet thing is hilarious.

Your main character having amnesia is dumb as heck.

I couldn't exactly figure out why sometimes my units would be together during the battle animation, why sometimes they would not, and why sometimes they would attack and other times they would not.

Kind of happy that the demo doesn't save progress because even just from it I was already worried about if I was putting EXP on the right guys, not a big fan of EXP in these kinds of games in general.

when dudes are adjacent on the map they will pair up during fights. this gives the guest character a chance to follow up the first character's attacks with an attack of their own, or block enemy attacks aimed at the first unit. The chances of each get better depending on how friendly the two units are.

Ah I see, it's only a chance. Since the demo didn't really tell me what was going on I couldn't tell if I was setting it up right or not and if that was why it was working or not.

I've only played the demo (and game as a whole) on hard or higher difficulties, where all the tutorial text is accessible but they never actually make you go through any of it- if you did the same, you might have missed out on more hand-hold-y explanations.

So I picked up Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America on Audible

    I'm digging it

Aside from weird small little errors I'm picking up on (Mario's Party, saying that Namco made Space Invaders 2 and Taito made Galaxian when the reverse is true), it's a fun listen

I really, really love Gumshoe and Edgeworth's dynamic.

Can't wait to get to AAI
    AA4 + 5 spoilers
Gumshoe just vanishing from the series with nary a mention if yet another reason why people aren't too hot on the "modern" AAs.

    My personal headcanon is that
He became the Chief of Police, much like how Edgeworth becomes Chief Prosecutor

Because while he's not very competent, he's the only police officer we see that isn't a) evil, b) fired, c) dead

well we can't be sure of C

    Look.

    Consider the enemies he makes.

    Then consider his competence level.

If Gumshoe was vulnerable to bullets, knives, poison, grenades, or gorillas in top hats, it's safe to assume he'd be long dead.

So it's safe to assume the Wars series is dead, right? I mean, Intelligent Systems was doing FE:A, then S.T.E.A.M., and presumably they're currently doing the next FE.

I always kind of assumed that Code Name STEAM was originally developed to be another entry in the Nintendo Wars series before it turned into what it is now.

The real fun is when you learn that the wacky court hijinx game is actually a scathing satire of the Japanese court system.

Oh yes. I was kinda shocked to find out the reason why everyone is amazed at Phoenix, it's because of the 99% conviction rate. And that being arrested carries the presumption of guilt, so you have to prove your innocence.

As an attorney, proving innocence is basically impossible.

wait, you're guilty until proven innocent in actual japanese law? seriously? I thought the AA games were just doing the usual sort of overdramatizing of the legal system that tv shows and such usually do to make it more exciting

A lot of stuff in the series is exaggerated for comedic effect, but it's also part of the satire since the series takes place like a decade or two in the future and is kinda like a warning of what could happen if things aren't fixed.

Less than 1% of Japanese court cases result in a not-guilty verdict.

If your case has gone to court, you're already fucked.

is that statistic just for criminal cases, or civil cases too? it would be pretty fucked up for the business world if whoever sued first had a 99% chance of winning their case no matter what, I can only imagine it would destroy japan's economy in a huge corporate lawsuit clusterfuck.
