Also I know one of you guys managed to change the lights to mimic the different outputs from the game. How difficult would it be to get a pack to mimic the cool down/venting process?

do you think magical artifacts could be used to increase the power and effectiveness of the ghost buster's equipment? Cause i have this matchlock pistol that is supposed to be able to cause harm to undead, including ghosts and such, but it's no longer in firing condition, but the spell is still active.

http://www.gbfans.com/shop/ has all you need to build a pack, including preprogramed chips to run the lighting and sound effects.

How are you sure the spell still works?

    Were you pistol whipping them?

    Yup.

    https://youtu.be/vPK8xmqNjJI

All my light and sound boards are made by one guy so they all connect together. It is very slick. Smoke effect mine does it from another kit but the guy who made the lights built an interrupter circuit that plugs in between the pack lights and the main board. It takes the signal from the switch that activates the venting process before it gets to the pack lights and also sends it to the eCig to activate the smoke. You then just have to mess with this little screw adjuster knob that will lengthen the time the smoke runs and make it fit the sound effects.

None of it was very hard. It just took some finagling.

Actually, I ment how the lower portion of the pack opens and exposes the rods for emergency cooling.

I loved that visual effect, but it would probably damn near impossible to do.

I'm a trained and accredited wizard. These are the things you learn.

How to detect if a spell is still active. How to read a language that has no letters or words. How to conjure the unreal into reality. What parts of animals the uncaring gods beyond the stars are the least apathetic towards. knitting. And of course, the rules of curling.

well, from what i understand the bowler hurls the ball at the batter, who then hits it, and then runs between the two pegs until the bowler has the ball, and if they're at a peg they're safe, and if they aren't then he is drawn and quartered, his different parts being sent to the rulers of Scotland as a reminder.

I saw one where the entire bumper, the part that protects the cyclotron, extends out and it show smoke, which is a bit more like the game. No rods that I've ever seen.

Do not incorporate magical devices into your advanced electronics. By nature they are highly unstable and unpredictable and not governed by the natural laws that govern the packs and sensors. It may result in malfunction, total protonic reversal, temporal destabilization or dematerializaton.

Use of a supernatural artifact as a sidearm or alternate tool is permitted so long as the technician is trained and licensed (where applicable) in its use.

psha, i've used a magic ring as a conductor in my tv and it looks better than ever, sure sometimes the tv starts to bleed, but there's no proof that wouldn't have started to happen anyway.

There's one guy on the gbfans forum who does really incredible commission work, but a full aluminum "Hero" proton pack runs around $3500.

Which, when you add up all the parts actually isn't as totally outrageous as it sounds, admittedly.

I'm kind of torn between commissioning something from him over a period of like a year, or slowly accumulating the parts and building my own. The most significant difference being that his paint jobs and weathering look amazing.

Late last year I ended up putting my full jumpsuit together with all the doohickies and doodads on the GB1 uniform, aside from the goggles and PKE Meter

To be fair, the big game was about to start and the thought of Supernatural High Definition TV had some appeal.
And Slimer was about to get into the snacks, so there wasn't time to get into the possible repercussions here.

The only problem with being a Ghostbusters is that the pay is crap. The vast majority are part-timers with second jobs.

Well the alternative is living in a world where ghostly/demonic danger is such a threat that it necessitates full time employees. At least the equipment budget is adequate for most franchises, even if some of the packs are old enough to rent a car. They all work more-or-less since the power cells have a half-life of 5,000 years.

I managed to botch my alarm this morning and am missing the Dublin, GA St. Patrick's festival where my associates in the GAGB are marching in the parade, preforming pack maintenance and sweeping for valances.

The regional director is threatening to fire me for not showing up and I'm really bummed out that I'm missing it. I was going to trap a leprechaun and steal its little bowler hat for my trophy wall!
I'm not actually getting fired from Ghostbusting but it was jokingly mentioned. :(:(:(

So this thread got me looking at proton pack parts again

Have my finger hovering over checkout for an ALICE pack, shell, and motherboard

@timspork's ghost and/or @TankHammer don't suppose either of you know a good place to acquire the 70's style straps for the ALICE frame? Also, any suggestion or opinion on any particular fiberglass shell to go with?

I'd really dig building a proton pack I bet but I don't know anything about tools.

For the straps, check out local army surplus stores. They also show up from time to time on eBay.

Former the motherboard and she'll make sure you get them from the same source so they fit. There are also several people who sell ones that you should never buy from because they are crap but I'm not at a location where I can go into it. Might I ask whose she'll you are looking at? TankHammer or I might be able to look at it and make sure it isn't a bad one. I'd hate for you to get a not good shell.

The two that immediately jump out are just the normal-ass one they sell on the gbfans shop, or the Bigi330 sold directly by Vincenzo330

The biggest obvious difference being the Bigi330 has an aluminum N-filter pre-installed, but is a bit more expensive because of that

Oh okay you are aces. The Bigi330 is amazing and the GBfns shell is solid as well. I paid a little more for my shell And motherboard to have thee mounding brackets installed and drilled. Saved a ton of effort.

I outgrew my first jumpsuit when I was like, eight or nine?

I will type up a better post on this later but for now go check out the GBfans shop. They usually have the vast majority of stuff. It is very good quality. The prices are good and it ships stupid fast. I highly recommend it.

I'll type up a list of stuff needed for different levels of gear and where to get it.

There are some different options for flight suit.

If you want full authenticity, you're looking for a khaki nomex CWU-27/P flight suit.

TruSpec makes a perfectly respectable cheaper khaki flight suit in the same style however, which also breathes a bit better because it's a cotton/polyester blend.

Personally, I have a TruSpec for mine and I think it looks perfectly fine.

There is a larger list of doodads that can go into the suit, depending on how much you want to spend, how film accurate you're going for, and how much you feel like essentially digging through garbage trying to find a Motorola walkie talkie from the 80s.

GBfans shop is a great option for elbow pads, belt, belt fobs, leg hose and nozzle, and patches though. They even do custom name patches. (I'll post a picture of my WIP flight suit when I can get it to download off my google+, or maybe when I get home I can take a new one since I've added stuff to it and largely finished it since that picture)

I have since replaced the belt with one of the correct tan color, and a "belt gizmo" reproduction using a really amazing kit from the gbfans forum.

If the image quality is garbage, I blame the free image editing software I downloaded onto my phone to resize it.

EDIT: OH, also I got a leather holster for the walkie talkie

I didn't have the skill or the working area needed to build my own pack so I purchased one from another buster who was putting-together a movie-accurate pack. Including shipping it cost me about $500 for a pack with lights but no sound and a battery that's shot and missing a charger. I figure it'll be a great learning experience getting the thing up to standards.

I second the Tru-Spec recommendation. I originally bought a flightsuit from another manufacturer and not only was it a bit too yellow for khaki it was also short in the legs and sleeves and uncomfortably tight in the crotch (not bragging). Once I changed to the Tru-Spec I was far happier. They also carry extra-tall sizes which is critical for someone with my body type since buying clothes is annoying enough when your pants aren't attached to your shirt.

I bought a pair of tall, black uniform boots, belt fobs (very important for the look), gun belt, and some pouches from a local military surplus place (who also sold flight suits but not in my size). I was a little intimidated shopping for my geek costume at the same place I assume crazy survivalist homesteaders like to hang out but the owner and salesperson were completely used to costuming and were a great help in finding what I needed. I even got a pair of vintage hazmat gloves for just $10!

My boots were individually the most expensive part of my suit, since I got screen accurate real-ass leather jump boots with the side zipper.

Any roughly calf high black boots will do the job if you're less crazy than I am though.

My crew doesn't really care much about screen-accuracy since we have our own style so I bought the best pair of boots I could that were under $100 and looked like they would be able to stand up to wearing for 3 days straight including marching in a parade. I made out pretty well, though I had to give up on the dream of a side-zipper.

I was flipping around the channels late one night a few years ago and found this show (the animated one), which was apparently based on a live action series from 1975.

    FilmationGhostbusters.jpg

The wikipedia synopsis of the live action show sounds incredible:
Spencer, Tracy and Kong billed themselves as "The Ghost Busters," bumbling detectives who investigated paranormal activity. Kong (Tucker) was the leader of the team with Spencer (Storch) as his partner and Tracy (a gorilla, played by Burns) as their assistant who also drove their broken-down jalopy. Their headquarters was situated in a run down office building in an unspecified city (Spencer's name on the door was misspelled "Spenser" while the opening credits spelled his name "Spencer"). Outside of normal office equipment, plus a large armoire on which Tracy hung numerous hats including his trademark beanie, the office itself was also dilapidated, with peeling wallpaper and a Pay phone near the door as the Ghost Busters' only means of communicating with clients.

    ...

The Ghost Busters' assignments would invariably take them to the same place: a spooky castle with an adjoining graveyard on the outskirts of the city (Kong would point out that the castle was the only castle in or near the city), and after a series of farcical chases, the ghouls would be cornered and dispatched back to the netherworld by a "Ghost De-Materializer", usually activated by Kong as he triumphantly shouted "Zap!"
