Basically it boiled down to "hey, do you have a Wii U? Well, after Yoshi's Woolly World just throw it in the trash. Thanks for buying our next console!"
Zelda is totally going to pull another Gamecube/Wii moment and release multi-console.

W-what?
Where the hell are you getting this from?
We're not even at E3 yet, and today had some good announcements for Wii U games
What "announcements" for the Wii U happened that weren't already announced or just extensions of games that already exist?
Oh I'm sorry
E3 is actually in two months, dude

So...Fatal Frame? DLC isn't a home run or going to cause anyone to, you know, bother buying a WiiU. Mario Maker already announced, putting a date on it isn't something to write home about. SMTxFE was disgusting on a few levels. Giving things dates isn't something to shit my pants about. Old games I can buy for a few dollars more on their actual console isn't a big deal to me.
Xenoblade Chronicles already announced. Nothing new was here that was awesome, personally. If you think it is, that's fine. I'm merely speaking from my point of view here.
I just think saying Nintendo is folding on their current system because they didn't announce any new games only two months before the time (E3) to do that is super reactionary

I'm pretty sure mentioning publicly they're working on their new system and giving it a code name is acknowledgment of folding on their current system.

It really, really isn't. They only announced the NX to reassure people that they aren't exclusively going mobile.

Erm.
It's kind of common knowledge that every game company starts work on their next system immediately after the current one is released.

Common knowledge and public acknowledgment are two completely separate entities. Consumer confidence is a thing that exists. I'm well aware, as is everyone on a gaming forum or subforum, that companies start working on their next console soon after or even before their current one is released.
We can talk and talk about how it's just to reassure the consumer base that they weren't going full mobile, but that seems like a personal reassurance that they aren't giving up on something you own. As an owner of a WiiU, I'm pretty sure by early to mid 2016 the WiiU is completely dead and not just on life support like it has been.
Super Mario 64 is up now AND IT'S ON SALE FOR TWO DOLLARS
Wooooo
That Super Mario 64 HD bob-omb battlefield remake im sure got us wondering, when they will HD-ize this game. Yeah they did a re-release of it on the DS (which I thought was pretty good and didn't struggle with the d-pad), but not the same.

I'm not convinced.
In any case, if the NX is a straight Wii U successor (one of many possibilities, as we know nothing but the name thus far), it's not even that different from previous practices. 3 years was about how long it took for the name "Dolphin" to start floating around, after the N64 came out.
But, I can see this isn't a discussion where either party will be convinced or come out of it with anything more than they came in with. So I guess we've said all we need to.
Nintendo DS games being 10 bucks feels a little steep to me at this point.
True, I saw $7 to $10 on that first slide and thought "oh hey that sounds pretty good" but then they kept going and all of the ones they showed were $10.
I dunno. I have a huge DS collection and no need to rebuy any of those games, and if I don't have them I don't really want them. I think it's a great opportunity for people who have been clamoring for it for a long time though.
And there is some added value there over just getting a used DS game for 5 bucks...you can play it on the TV, you can remap the controls, you have save states (I assume it's got all the same features as regular VC games). That's actually kind of a big deal.
If anything the 64 games seem a bit overpriced for my liking. Ten bucks for some of the better DS games with a ridiculous combination of control/viewing options seems pretty reasonable. Here's hoping the Castlevania games show up eventually.
I don't know about DS games on the Wii U. Especially ones like Yoshi's Island DS that really link both screens in gameplay. Even on a big TV it seems like it would be finicky.
On the flip side, there are also many DS games that stick to one screen for gameplay, and use the other for non-vital secondary stuff. AKA: What the gamepad already does in a lot of Wii U games. Having those playing on a big TV would be freakin' awesome.

And no Star Fox at all. Sigh.
This is a Direct, not E3.
Even Nintendo's E3 is a direct, but that's beside the point.
I don't mean to cast shade here, and I certainly don't want the WiiU to die as it has had some of my favorite games in the past few years, especially 2014. Captain Toad's Treasure Tracker was absolutely a top 3 for me last year, but between the Zelda reveal (and subsequent cancellation) and now there has been nothing actually NEW announced.
The 3DS is in great shape and will continue to do well, that I don't question at all. Apologies for throwing that doom and gloom in here, I just felt after the Zelda delay announcement some Star Fox news or new game news would be the bare minimum to satiate the actual Wii U owners but it seems some dates announced is good enough for everyone but me.
Now we get Fatal Frame V, SMTxFE is real (and is getting a winter release in Japan... nothing announced elsewhere I think), we get a crazy Yoshi yarn amiibo, 200cc mode in Mario Kart, and it's not E3 yet. We know that Devil's Third is happening, and also that Xenoblade X should be out some time this year, probably in the second half (it releases in Japan in a couple of weeks). Note that a lack of Xenoblade X info is partly because in Japan it's been getting its own mini directs. Another one is scheduled there for April 10th (19 days before release).

Hopefully they'll release them at a faster rate than they did for Wii. I think I waited about three years for them to put out Majora's Mask.
Not that I'd really need it on Wii U too, now that MM3D exists.
