I hope those levels will be available in the retail version. I wanna play them.
I bet they will. I'm guessing Nintendo will have, like, weekly maps where they just start releasing a ton of levels made by the Treehouse, especially early on to populate the online searching thingy.
I'm also very curious if those levels are going to be at the Best Buy thing and/or e3 show floor. I suppose it depends on how much creation time vs. playing time they want to give people - but I could see them wanting some pre-made levels to show off the cool stuff you can do.

I hope they do a curation thing like RedLynx does with the Trials games.
But for serious, I'm pretty sure Nintendo just sold a million Super Mario Makers....
You know, watching this....I think Nintendo should turn the Nintendo World Championships into a TV series, but like....on youtube.
Announce what the qualifier games/sections will be ahead of time so there's no reason to hold them all simultaneously. Then, stream one qualifier per week on youtube/twitch. Once you've got each of your regional winners, have, say, two weeks where they air episodes getting to know the players (both qualifiers and invitees), then stream the finals. Leave the videos up for others to watch/catch up after the fact.
It'd be an awesome promotional vehicle for them, and they're one of the few companies with the sort of catalog that they could pull it off.

Shit they probably sold me a fuckin Wii-U.
Like, I was considering getting a PS4 sometime soon-ish to have a current-gen console in this place, but now I'm looking at it and I'm thinking, "That dumb thing doesn't even have Super Mario Maker."
The fun of Super Mario Maker will depend entirely on how many levels are actually good, fun ones like these, rather than variations on "stand still while this level plays", "You will never win" or "Mario explores the giant dick".

I've had more than one person tell me they want to get a Wii U after I show them Splatoon. I say the same thing every time: No system is worth just one game, but it has a hell of a library for a secondary system.

Now I'm thinking how hard it would be to make a giant dick level without people noticing...

Assuming they have a system where it's easy to find the actually good levels, I think it will be fine. I think someone previously mentioned the Mario vs. Donkey Kong Tipping Stars as a possible model.
Edit: Aaaand the twitch stream is still running on a static screen of the SMW ending for some reason. Maybe if I wait long enough I will see the super secret ending sequence!

As long as they have a "staff picks" or "staff made levels" section then the game will have legs
Considering their long term plan with Splatoon they'll probably have some manner of continuous content to keep people coming back
So as a big big BIG fan of Earthbound, is Mother 1 a good game for me to get?
The game is pretty tough, lots of grinding necessary, and some long stretches with a sense of very little tangible stuff going on. That doesn't mean I think it's awful or hated it or anything, it's just a product of its time. Some of the difficulty comes from there being very large, empty, mazelike maps that just wear you down, and even if you try to outlevel the enemies there you can still die from the gradual attrition. The enemies aren't visible on the map like in Mother 2, either. No quick battle avoidance. No rolling HP meter either, just Dragon Warrior-style combat.
Very little in the way of equipment, spoilers for the amount of equips in the game:
2-4 weapons in the entire game per party member, and about the same number of armors.
However there are a ton of consumables.
The plot is pretty good for a NES game and does have some significant connections to Earthbound.
Music is top notch! I'm glad people will be getting to hear the genesis of those great Melee music tracks that confused everyone so many years ago.
I heard that Mario Maker has a thing where you have to be able to actually complete a level you made, so hopefully that'll nip impossible levels in the bud.

NoA throwing Cosmo under the bus.
Yeah, actually I'm pretty happy that a qualifier won
It's like Cosmo was the final boss I guess?

I just saw this one on his twitter feed:
This is going to become a meme, isn't it? :P
Well... it's not as good as Earthbound.
It feels basically like an 8-bit prototype. Not terrible but when all is said and done, nothing really good.
Think of it as a way of telling NoA that we want Mother 3.
