Lame, so this ended up being real. It popped up on reddit or something else like two weeks ago and I hoped it was fake.
I can't find a way to just steam roll the AI solo and level up now, looks like they make you do the versus AI option so you have to play with other people to level up.
If someone has a better way to level besides you and four friends for the XP bonus link it please so I can get my diablo swag and uninstall HotS ASAP.
That's nice. Not that I play a lot, and I muhfuggin hate warriors, but getting the stuff for free is a'ight. I suspect a lot of people have Diablo already.
I started playing maybe a week ago and reached 12 yesterday. It doesn't take that long to reach level 12. Maybe like 2 hours a day to get there. Though I did get carried hard by @Jookie, @Inquisitor77 and some other nice PAers in the forums.
Besides being carried here are some other tips:
Play with a friend on Battle.net to get 50% more experience. This does not stack unfortunately.
Play in Versus (Quick Match) mode and stay away from A.I. mode. A.I. grants less experience but it's great for knocking out dailies and getting to know a new hero
An alternative is to play co-op with a Battle.net friend on A.I. mode if you really hate playing pub matches/waiting in queue. You still get 50% exp but not the bonus from playing VS.
At level 10, you get a free 7 day Stimpack that increases gold and exp. It should help power through the rest.
Quick Match isn't really quick. The server hamsters have to figure out a way to combine a wide variety of players into 5 vs 5 mode. The most I have waited for is 20 minutes. Having more people in your party should make the queue shorter. Waiting in queue solo is probably the worst for wait times.
Also don't forget to login in HoTS at least once in the following 3 weeks when patch 2.3 hits in Diablo. Otherwise you don't get that sweet pennant and portrait.

Why do you want your D3 account tarnished with unlocks from a game you hate so much?

Simple, I want swag in the game I like but don't want to play the "genre" I never liked when it was WC3 custom maps with the original DotA and Tides of Blood. Same reason I don't want to play WoW, buy a Starcraft expansion, or attend BlizzCon but would love all the D3 swag those offer too.
When it only costs the time I'm already spending on D3 or Monster Hunter instead of actual money then yes, I'd much rather see if anything changed since alpha to speed my way to level 12, get my merch, and never touch HotS again.
eh, there'll be much less need to save stuff with the cube
right now I have all kinds of stuff sitting in stash because it would be nice to have an ancient whatever in the event I try out whatever build; that kind of thing will be significantly less necessary once the cube is in, especially for weapons and jewelry. You'll still save some things for creating specific combos, but I doubt if it'l be that much really.
hold your head high soldier, it ain't over yet
that's why we call it the struggle, you're supposed to sweat
So I booted up D3 last night, and took my DH out for a T6 spin. While my old build doesn't really work anymore (I used the Disc->Hatred via Prep build to spam Cluster + Multishot), I can still murder things safely and easily in T6. Plus, I have a lot of the bits and pieces required to make a strafe build start to work (I used to use that build to speed farm, but it was a little different).
I also apparently hoarded a LOT of stuff, including many trifecta Magefists, tons of trifecta rares, a 1% off perfect witching hour, and just like, crazy stuff.
Maybe I'll get into season 4 and fart around some!

I saw that! And that's really awesome! But this is where I get pedantic and say they're "melee range" wizards and not "melee" wizards. But yeah, in 2.2 Wizards are the top group grift DPS spec, it's just that you need insane gear to leverage the build. Insane gear, which is why it's taken so long to push that high with two Wizards instead of 1x Wiz / 1x DH.
Nearly all of the damage of that build is coming from Tal + F/R + 2x Hydras at top breakpoint. And from getting 150-200 stacks of Flame Blades for mega-amped Fire damage. Explosive Blast and Arcane Orbit are insignificant afterthoughts in that build
I tried running it in our Unicorn Brigade, but without a 0dog WD it's even more death-prone than usual during trash, and of course the RG is a complete impossibility at melee range.

Even ignoring the ridiculous gear requirements the paragon requirements are just as asinine. When Gabynator's group cleared 75 back in July he was paragon 1485, Vajet's EU group recently cleared 76 and Vajaet was 1888, and a month later Gabynator is, actually surprised it's this low, 1620 for the 77.
Every time I've tried to play HotS I just instantly want to play diablo real bad
so then I do that
Spoiling a more detailed post but hitting 12 really isn't bad at all if you just want the digital merch like I did. Thanks to some help from Ant and Sky last night I went from ten to twelve without a stimpack easily and then a few more games with Ant later on got him to 12 too. Most of the D3 characters transition in a way that makes sense to how they play in D3, so it's nice to see the DH wasn't just a fluke or one off design choice if you're looking for something familiar.
Looked like they finally stopped giving EXP for AI games where you and four bots on the highest setting smashed five bots on the lowest setting in five minute or less games, but the versus AI game mode is an okay compromise. Play with at least one friend in that mode for the 50% bonus EXP to give you normal or close to it EXP and it's an easy grind to ten to get the stimpack then ten to twelve for the digital swag. Games bounced between 80-120k experience and usually ended just shy of or just over ten minutes.
Quick match gives 100% exp, then the 50% from the friend bonus, but you have to play against other people so matches can take a lot longer and the search function, at least last night, also took a lot longer to get into games. So if you actually like the game, which is probably more people here than not, or just have a good group quick matching is probably better even factoring in queue time. But with just two people to get in, get to 12, and get out bot smashing is fine.
At least with some of the D3 characters they transition really well into HotS. I had Valla free from owning D3, RoS, or both, whatever that promo was, Sonya the Barb was free last week, and Sky used the gold getting to twelve to buy Johanna the Crusader. All three of them play a lot like you'd expect playing those classes in D3, so that's actually cool. Fought Azmodan's bot like every other game last night and at least graphically it was just like fighting him in act 3.

Yeah if you don't like the competitive aspect of HotS you can just play against the AI and treat it as a single player game and ignore your teammates. It's basically impossible to lose against the AI.
Well OK, it's possible. But you'd have to get stuck with four teammates who literally can't play video games.

At the top of the screen click Play, then Versus A.I. Then at the bottom left of that screen like TTO says there's a box where you can select the difficulty of A.I. teammates.
Fiddling with that last night did nothing for A.I. teammates though, no matter what settings I tweaked. Just kept finding games for me and anyone in my party, filling my team with other real people, then us fighting five bots. The only way I could get AI on my own team, and tweak the enemy AI difficulty, was clicking Custom Game at the top of the screen. That gave me 0 EXP so I just bot smashed with people to 12 last night instead of playing D3 to get it out of the way.
They've run enough cross promotions with D3 and other games now, like SC2 (Kerrigan wings), WoW (Horde banner), Blizzcon (likely upcoming Blizzcon merloc-goblin pet), and that/those furnace themed weapon/s from either WoW's last expansion or last years Blizzcon I'd love to see how sales chart and spike. I always feel like I'm in the minority for only liking D3, well, and WC3, rather than playing some combination their current and past games so seeing how many people buy SC2 for Kerrigan wings in D3 and don't ever touch SC2 would be cool. See if it's a small blip or if it's actually a high number. Similarly with this promotion, see how many people hit 12 before the deadline then never log back into HotS, how much if any they spent in the HotS store, etc.
I thought the only deadline was to claim the Diablo character & malthael mount in HotS.
Meaning the D3 items would always be available, whenever you got around to HotS level 12.
edit: Ya, from the wording, it doesn't even sound like the malthael mount has to be season 4. "Starting with Season 4...Diablo III players who reach level 70 with a Seasonal character..."

Sanctuary’s heroes and villains continue to invade the Nexus, and we’re celebrating their arrival with wondrous rewards you can earn by playing each game!
Immediately following the next Heroes patch, any player with a Diablo III license on their Battle.net account will receive the Diablo Hero in Heroes of the Storm for free. Simply log in to Heroes of the Storm to claim the Lord of Terror and start unleashing hell on your foes. Don’t wait though— this offer ends at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 8!
The cross-universe rewards don’t end there. Diablo III players who reach level 12 in Heroes of the Storm will also receive a unique pennant and portrait frame in Diablo III for PC and Mac. In addition, reaching level 70 with a Seasonal Hero in Season 4 and beyond gives you the shadowy Malthael’s Phantom mount in Heroes of the Storm!
All of these goodies can be yours, nephalem—but are you brave enough to take on both Sanctuary and the Nexus? There’s only one way to find out! We’ll see you in the Nextuary (see what we did there?).
Pretty sure you're right. The way it's written the deadline should only attach to the free Diablo HotS character, not the other items.
That's quoted verbatim from the announcement minus the graphic between those two paragraphs.
I need to side down like this weekend and grind out 12 levels in HotS. Tried out the DH a little earlier and it plays more or less like one would expect. HotS and other games like it, are not my style.
As for D3. Yeah, they'll need to revisit storage space. The cube is only going to do so much. At best, it just means we cube really hard to find items, that have useful legendary affixes, that happen to roll like shit. Also means we probably cube any legendary items that have an affix that currently isn't useful, just to have it in case it becomes worth a damn in the future. Problem is, that does very little for people that play more than two classes; especially, if they use different primary stats. It also does nothing for sets and they just keep adding in more items. If you get a really well rolled item that is useful, it's still going to be sucking up space somewhere on your account, if it isn't being used on an active character.
I saw that! And that's really awesome! But this is where I get pedantic and say they're "melee range" wizards and not "melee" wizards. I'd wager at least 4/5 of my stash space will be flushed down the cube. My epix roll for shit most of the time and I'm not a magnet for ancients either, so all the crap is just saved for "...might come up a build someday!". What will remain are set pieces and the <10 pieces of gear that actually rolled good.
The problem with cubing everything is you can only equip one thing out of the cube. You still need decent pieces of all the other legendaries your build requires.
It's still nice to cube your non-ancient crappy-rolls gloves, or something, but you're still gonna need good gloves to wear.
Inquisitor772 x Penny Arcade Fight Club ChampionA fixed point in space and timeRegistered Userregular
The cube just raises the power/synergy threshold by giving you access to more legendary affixes. It doesn't actually help your stash because you have no idea if you may need the actual item at some point. There are going to be BiS combinations that will give you the choice of whether to use the cube or the actual item, in which case you will want to compare the best of the two choices that you have in your stash and use the better option. And there are still going to be cases where if you cube something, that means you are preventing yourself from using a particular build, because it may require stacking both the cube and the item affix from the same slot. Couple that with the drop rates for some legendaries and you are probably better off just never cubing something until you need to use it in a build or you finally get more than one drop. Either way your stash will still be full with "the best" version of any drop you find.
