I had a lot of trouble with people raising religious orders to defend against me in my India game.
I quickly started not bothering attacking people without first checking to see that their piety was at a level where they couldn't hire religious troops, or I had enough troops to handle them even if they got the religious troops.
As I haven't played much of the Indian campaign, how do you expand as a Jain? The whole 'pacifist' way makes taking over territory rather difficult, it would seem.

It's difficult - as I mentioned, you have to make extra-sure anybody you attack can't pull extra troops out of their ass somehow. Only attack very small holdings until you've built up a sizable demesne, make sure to pay attention to alliances, hold off attacking big dudes unless they are embroiled in other conflicts at the same time... it takes a lot longer to get an empire rolling, but it's totally possible to become Samrat Chakravartin as a Jain.
I unfortunately don't know if the Hindu Religious Order will for example fight Buddhists and they would show up in the same way as mercs do
It's definitely a religious order, as Pala is generally the only Buddhist realm in India. I think the piety costs for recruiting them is 280 karma. Given that it's quite low I just converted to Hinduism when I started my conquest of India, and switched to Buddhism for each character's old age if I wanted to pick a different heir. You wont be able to see the order's strength though until they're recruited and show up in the defender's character screen.

Looks like Monks and Mystics comes out March 7th. $14.99.
They also have a new content pack available, "English and German" portraits were the last thing I expected (considering the standard Western vanilla portraits are still the beeest in my opinion)
Started up a new game now that Monks & Mystics is out.
Began as the Duke of Holland and I figured I'd try to find some way to become a Secret Pagan (probably Germanic, because they're closest, but I'm happy with anything). I know it's possible to secretly belong to some other religion rather the one you profess to have, so it might be fun to try that.
But in trying to figure out how to become secretly non-Catholic I carefully avoided any decisions that might steer me towards Zealous and ended up quite Cynical. And someone noticed my... interests... even if they misinterpreted them.
The Satanists have invited me into their cult already. I wasn't even looking for them, they came to me.
So obviously I joined, 'cuz, hey, why not? What's the worst that could happen?
Probably been mentioned but there's also a south Indian portrait pack that is an anniversary gift for players and it appears the usual content packs of units and portraits with the latest expansion are free as well.

- Removed the duplicate island of Kolguyev, in the Barents Sea
- The Danube has been redrawn, to better respresent its actual location (!)
- When eating your prisoners, you can now attract a non-serious disease
- An educator will no longer get the option to teach their student about their area of expertise if the student is dead
- Court Physicians should no longer ask you to punish them when they mistreat themselves
- Fixed the predicted morale gain for units almost always being slightly wrong

Look, if my wife can ask me to join in the plot to murder me, my physician should be able to demand to be punished.
Civics is not a consumer product that you can ignore because you don’t like the options presented.
I was Saxony, having fun and raiding when Charlemagne declares war on me.
I lose of ton of battles, but with Pagan attrition he cant hold the land he takes. France calls in Lombardy, and after a while I use the ability to raise a tribal army. With a random couier with a whooping 21 martial at the helm we beat France's army and capture Charlemagne! Naturally I light him on fire.
But, that doesnt end the war. Karloman takes France over but I'm not at war with him. Lombardy some times sends a few men up here but for the most part I'm in a never ending war with a dead man.
So I'm playing the Duke of Holland in the Charlemagne start, everything's going smoothly, or as smoothly as things can go when I'm running around setting fire to Churches and sacrificing Bishops to Satan and having all my vassals possessed by demons to ensure their loyalty and all that.
And then suddenly I'm the King of Germany. I have no idea how that happened. First there was still West and Middle Francia and then, just like that, West Francia, Burgundy, and Germany and I'm King of Germany. Somehow. Oh, and King of Frisia because I held enough de jure territory to create that title.
That really upset me somehow. The status quo gets upended totally out of my control, I'm thrust into a new position (and switched to Elective, which I, personally, like less than Gavelkind) and I'm already seriously considering dropping this game and starting over.
Rampant murder in the name of Lucifer is fine. Unexpected Kingship stresses me out something dreadful. Clearly I have my priorities in order.
I'm loving the new content, a lot of great little things to keep you busy and further your own personal story.
One disappointment, the absorb life ability from satan worship doesn't reduce your age it just gives you a temporary Health bonus...So I can't be an immortal warlock.
For those that have it, is there much in the new expansion for those not interested in the supernatural aspects? I found bits like gaining immortality fun for a lark in the past but I generally turn them off when playing. So far most of the talk about this expansion has been crazy Satanist shenanigans.
There's the Hermetic Order (a Medieval mixture of science and the occult) and the Benedictine Order (humble piety). Shia can also join the Assassins. They're not as weird as the Satanists, so that's probably why people don't talk about 'em much.
Other than that, I believe artifacts, heirlooms and relics are also part of the DLC.
- Councilor selection screen with voting pattern indicators
- Ask the Council to consider a vote before actually voting on it, which allows it to be shown on the Council screen along with icons on each Councilor showing how they will vote.
This is the way it should've been designed from the start, by the way
Hmm. Can I use the new DLC with an old save? That threat decay is pretty sweet.
They will specify in the update notes if old saves are incompatible. IIRC the only times saves have been rendered incompatible were when they expanded the reach of the map.
None of the newly-added achievements will be earnable in any save started before the DLC's release, though.
You can switch off all the supernatural stuff in the pre game start menu. I think there's still enough to warrant the purchase...but I'm a real sucker for paradox's stuff.
I am not sure I have the stomach to play satanist in this game.
I can be a warlord, killing thousands for my personal ambitions, but satanic cult events are on completely different level.
See, now you're just making me curious and interested in playing one. When blinding, castration, child murder etc. are becoming routine, who doesn't need a bit of spice in their life?

Steam Support is the worst. Seriously, the worst
You can send your spymaster to convince members to leave.
The leader of a faction dying (and possibly being arrested?) causes them to break up and need to reform.
Making the leader of a faction a vassal under someone else also causes the faction to break up.

Typically I just bribe the leader with titles and gold until they disband the faction.
I mean, without massive changes it would really only be good for Vampire: the Dark Ages
so much of V:tM is based on 90s conceits that you'd lose a lot of the fun in moving it to CK2
But yeah, I can definitely see it being fun with the vampire psuedo-feudal structure

Not that worshiping Satan isn't fun or anything, it's just that all your treasures are a lot more personal.
