Alien's a very, very well-optimized game that doesn't need a supercomputer to run, despite how incredible it looks. My laptop runs the thing totally maxed out.
Red does? Or does the game just kind of shove you along with no explanation and just a "Shit's fucked." Because she is not a character, she's a cardboard cutout with a sword. She doesn't do a single thing of her own volition and doesn't communicate at all. And really don't tell me she can't because she's mute because talking is not the only way to communicate. There's body language, expressions, gestures, writing, etc. We get none of that because the devs chose to have the sword do the talking and he doesn't know anything either.
Uhhh? (Transistor spoilers)
Did you miss all the terminals you write messages at, eventually only communicating with Breach since everyone else is gone? Or that her goal was to save her lover, who saved her in the beginning, and that the game opened and closed on those two points? Was choosing to commit suicide when she finally realized it was hopeless not of her own volition?
If you dislike something, whatever, but saying there "is no story" is silly.
Also holy shit, that '50s chainsaw Wonder Woman is the baddest thing I've seen in weeks. Is there an atomic age comic series to go with that? Are other characters as rad?
There was a story all the way to the tower, but it ended the moment you found the killers all dead by suicide. Yes, she had a goal in the beginning and if the game had ended at that point with everything falling down it would have been a story. Maybe not a good one but it had the elements.
Instead it continues on and goes absolutely nowhere for the rest of the game. Everything is falling down and there is no way to fix it. I compare Transistor to Deus Ex Human Revolution. The beginning is fairly solid and the journey pretty good, but once you reach the halfway point everything just gets stupid to the point where the ending is absolutely pointless. Transistor has Red commit suicide after accomplishing nothing and HR has Jensen push a button dispense stock photos over babbling narration.
What is Red's goal after finding the killers dead and learning she can't bring her lover back to life? Nothing! She has no purpose from that point forward and is just going through the motions. The story ended in the tower. Red's suicide was not the culmination of the story, it was an event prior to the credits with nothing connecting to it.
What should have happened is that Breach should have been in that tower, the lone survivor. He reveals to Red that her boyfriend can't be revived and that the city is doomed no matter what. He then attacks her with his own Transistor for her interfering with their plans and causing this whole destruction. Red defeats him and then, seeing that it's the end of existence pretty much, commits suicide rather than be derezzed.
Post-tower, Red is continuing her search for answers. She's tracking down Royce in Fairview and trying to figure out what happened, to understand the situation, to come to grips with everything happening around her.
Like the story or don't, but don't tell people interested in the a narrative-driven game that there isn't a story. You're lying to them and saying "There is no story" when you mean "I don't like or approve of the story that is told."

Gordon Freeman doesn't do anything we don't tell him to, doesn't speak and has no visible (to us) body language, expressions, gestures, writing, etc. Would you say Half-Life 2 had no story?
Even if I agreed with your assessment of Red as a character, you are equating protagonist character with game story. A game can have a robust story even if the main character isn't the primary vehicle for expressing it. RAGE had a story, nonsensical though it was, and that character was a completely mute cipher.
Also, saying a protagonist does nothing of her own volition is a strange criticism for a video game. I mean, sure, some games have cutscenes or quicktime events where the PC does something beyond the player's direct controls. Are games that don't do that excluded from having stories, though?
Half Life 2 has no characterization but it does have a story. I said a story has a goal for the protagonist, which in HL2's case is defeating the Combine. Everything Gordon Freeman does is to further that goal.
However, Gordon does not have characterization. Everyone around him talks but he doesn't. He is a cardboard character too but the difference is he is surrounded by people who do know what's going on and help to guide him. Red on the other hand has only the Transistor to help her, and he knows nothing either, so they're both clueless which is not a good way to be conveying a story or sense of agency.

More Transistor spoilers
She doesn't recognize she can't save her lover until the very end of the game, when she returns to the beginning and uses the Transistor to restore the block—the city portion is rebuilt but his body remains, lifeless. That's when she resigns and the reason she commits suicide, because everything else was lost and she could be in the sword with Breach instead of alone in the world with a talking sword. Saying there's no purpose or it's a culmination of nothing is simply mistaken.
I don't know why you complain that she commits suicide accomplishing nothing and then offer an alternate version in which she commits suicide accomplishing nothing.

@Elbasunu Transistor is your best choice. Not too long, fun, challenging, and with a good story and lovely art.
Transistor has no story. A story has a goal for the protagonist, whereas Red in Transistor doesn't seem to have a definitive goal other than finding her killers, which could have been a fairly good story if
they hadn't all committed suicide before she even arrived because heaven forbid there be some conflict in this game and I don't mean in the combat sense.
Red has a goal. First she is trying to figure out what happened to CloudBank and save the city. Through her journey she realizes that her original goal doesn't matter to her and chooses a new path.
Just because you don't like the story does not mean that there isn't one.
Red does? Or does the game just kind of shove you along with no explanation and just a "Shit's fucked." Because she is not a character, she's a cardboard cutout with a sword. Plenty of stories start out by happening to the main character instead of them waking up and saying to the audience "This? This here is my motivation. It prescribes my every action."
You're right, though. As the game opens, the story happens to Red. As it continues she develops a goal and goes after it. Her goal also changes as the story progresses. Just because Red doesn't talk doesn't mean that her intentions aren't made clear through The Transistor's narration and gameplay.
Initially, Red's goal is to investigate The Process and figure out what is happening to Cloudbank. After that her goal becomes to take confront the Camerata to get answers. After she gets some answers and eliminates (or finds out that they have done it themselves) them, her goal becomes personal reconciliation which she achieves by deciding to live in the Transistor with her lover instead of what she decides is a pointless task (rebuilding Cloudbank).
That's pretty much what I said when I made my "this is how it should have gone" bit. Because all of that is prior to the tower. Once she finds the Camerata are dead and that Cloudbank is gone then the next step by your own post is deciding to sacrifice herself to the Transistor. Had that been the story it would have been fine. Instead we got the entire second half of the game where she has no goal and it's just pointless filler until the very end. The Transistor doesn't know what's going on, Red doesn't know what's going on, and the only other person alive isn't telling anything. It's filler.

They're not all dead though. After the tower Red is going to confront Royce in Fairview. Her motivation at that point? The same as any of ours would be: to figure out what the hell is really happening and come to terms with it. Royce is also, if I recall, promising that Red and the Transistor can fix everything. That's a powerful motivation. When she tries at the end she is able to restore the city block but not her lover. At that point she realizes that the buildings are pointless and none of it matters if she can't bring the people (and her lover specifically) back.
Again, it's fine that you don't like the story. It's not fine to tell people that there isn't one.

Intel Q6600 and MSI Radeon HD 6870 and some amount of ram - 4GB maybe. It just looked super detailed, I never read the actual requirements.
uhh I am a moron, and I think I clicked this code by mistake (hey, no coffee yet)
so it should still be un-redeemed, right?
Yeah, @Eupfhoria, assuming it's a Steam code and not like a bundle activation link that you clicked, the code should still be unredeemed if you didn't plug it into Steam.
Just let @subi know and he can repost it. (I was surprised that a game that has such deep, deep community penetration went so quickly. )
yeah, I just saw a line of text pop up shortly before I Ctrl-W'ed out of the page, and then reopened the page and saw the code was now 'empty'
I already have the game on 360, so hopefully @subi can still gift the code to someone who doesnt have it
So you want from me to post it again or you will give it to your friend ?
it's probably best just to post it again; sorry about wasting your time

You should be absolutely fine. Your CPU looks mid-range between what the game needs and what it recommends, you've got enough RAM assuming that number is right, and your GPU is on the same tier as mine (an HD 6990M) on the Tom's Hardware chart. You might not max it out but you won't be far off, and it scales well. It's really a shining example of what a properly-optimized game can look like. I say go for it!

Right. And I think everything is finally going through. Kind of like how I expect it to still take a bit for Nordic Games to have all the bits and things in place to even try and take any advantage of Darksiders or Red Faction.

F1 2015 is coming in June! This is the "next-gen" debut for the series, on PC, X1 & PS4.
Will also include the 2014 season as bonus content. Not sure whether to take that as a middle finger for buying last year's game... but it does mean we'll get a German track, at least, given the farcical story of this year's cancelled event.
For the 2015 season, F1 will be returning to Mexico for the first time since 1992. So to go with the announcement, here's a nice big shot of the last part of the heavily-refurbished Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez track in Mexico City:
Aliens question - I'm pretty terrible at games like Resident Evil where my bad aim and limited ammo means I'm pretty well screwed within the first 20 minutes of gameplay. How stingy is Aliens and is there a forgiving easy mode of any kind?
Looks like Akiba's Strip and Ys The Ark of Napishtim are hitting Steam soon. Press release should be coming shortly. Appears Akiba's will be the PS4 version and Ys will have some new features like warping through checkpoints and a "hardcore" mode that doesn't allow you to store healing items (they get used on pickup).
Akiba's is notable being their first Steam foray that isn't a game that was already natively on PC in some way.

I asked that yesterday.

Sounds like a plan. Tomorrow is shaping up to be expensive - good thing it's a light comics week!
Yeah. THQ went down a while back and there was a big old bankruptcy fire sale. Sega acquired Relic and all of the GW stuff on THQ.
