So, The Endless games are on sale for the weekend. In particular, Endless Space and it's one DLC are 80% off.
While Dungeon is not quite my thing, and Endless Space was a fun game marred by some rather questionable decisions, I really have to recommend Endless Legend to anyone who is on the fence. This thing managed to replace Civ as my go-to "I feel like playing something calm that will take a while" game. And given I have hundreds of hours of Civ, I'm not making that claim idly.
Endless Legend is a wonderful little take on the Civilization formula. The civilizations available are few in number compared to most other games... but where in most games the different civs play the same except for a couple traits, the civs in Endless legend play RADICALLY different. A civilization of pseudo-arthurian magical spectres that don't even use food and need to buy upgrades and healing with money, making them fully bank-dependent? We got that. A race of creepy cultist puppets that can't found their own cities and must subvert the free barbarians around the map for resorces and settlements? Sure! Do you want a bunch of displaced post-apocalyptic falloutian Vaulters that worship particular resources, making them both really good at extracting them and really dependent on them? Here you go, bro.
The music is gorgeous (just a random example), and the graphical style is simple but really pretty. The city expansion mechanics are curious and rather unique.
Oh, and the quest system. Do you remember how we all looked forward to Civ: Beyond Earth's quest system and then it turned out to be bland as hell? Well, Endless Legend does it way better. Each faction has a big, long, game-long quest line that expounds the faction's plot, and then besides the various "barbarian" settlements and ruins you can send your heroes to explore will give you more.
Overall, if you are into both fantasy and turn based 4x games, I can only recommend grabbing this thing.
Frozen Synapse Prime comes with a giftable copy on steam. (which might be region restricted? it wasn't really clear.) And the 12 dollar tier isn't really worth it. Better to buy Endless Space on Steam.
Okay so, what's better, Endless Legend or Age of Wonders III?
I haven't played EL, but what I've gotten as far as impressions is "yes".
As in both of them.
I'm honestly trying to make your wallet weep at this point.
Because after all, do you want Fantasy-Civ-done-better-than-Civ (as I understand it), or video-game-version-of-tabletop-wargame with new diplomacy victories?
Okay so, what's better, Endless Legend or Age of Wonders III?
Do you want to build an empire from the first settlement up or make your elven storm priests throw lightning bolts at the enemy goblin beetle riders? Very different game styles despite the fantasy trappings.

That makes the decision wayyyyy easier. I think I'll take the elven storm priests
Is the Crystal Upgrade for Dungeon of the Endless worth $4?
Personally the only worthwhile addition is the Soundtrack. Very nice but up to you for that price.
Another hero? Eh, there are loads in game. The Mezari are just reskinned Vaulters in Endless Legend. Only thing is the new mode which I haven't tried.
Karoz check the local files for the game. I'm pretty sure I only have the base version and it looks like there is a soundtrack folder in there. Plus as far as I can tell, the base version is the the same as the Pixel edition which it says also includes the soundtrack. It's kind of confusing.
Well I already bought the Crystal Upgrade exactly for the soundtrack back during Winter Gale.
Looked it up and yeah the Pixel pack does come with it. Well that is shitty.
So since that is the case, if you want a tiny bit of extra content, a reskinned faction from a different game and extra voting power or something on their forums to throw more money at them for basically nothing, this pack is for you.
Might as well have replaced it with a donate button. At least that would feel more honest.

I mad, bro.
Sorry to hear about it. It is a good soundtrack though. Especially for working. I've taken to checking the local files for indie games just for soundtracks because sometimes, they are just sitting there in a folder (for example: Risk of Rain and Nuclear Throne)
Oh hey it's the same with Endless Legend. Protip: don't make the soundtrack seem like a selling point of your special edition if it is included by default.
I should be applauding their inclusion of the soundtrack in the first place but since it was the only real reason I bought the upgrades I just feel tricked.
I finally got around to starting Wasteland 2. Other than the feeling that I'm constantly doing everything wrong, it's been quite fun so far. It is making me desperately want a new mouse.
Does anybody have any good suggestions for a wireless mouse (or KBAM pair) that works at a range of 10 feet?
I think that the internet has been for years on the path to creating what is essentially an electronic Necronomicon: A collection of blasphemous unrealities so perverse that to even glimpse at its contents, if but for a moment, is to irrevocably forfeit a portion of your sanity.

I like to imagine 4x games on a spectrum, with tactical/army-focused games on the left and strategic/empire-focused games on the right. So...
Heroes of Might and Magic----Age of Wonders----Master of Magic----Endless Legend----Civilization
Fantasy 4Xes that are Civ-ward of MoM are practically unheard of, which is part of what makes Endless Space novel.

Logitech G700 is great, should have the range you want while wireless, and converts effortlessly from wireless to wired and back.
If you want a mouse/keyboard combo, the Microsoft Wireless Comfort 5000 is less than $50, and I've had good results with that combo. You may have to dial down the mouse sensitivity a bit, but aside from that it's a solid, reliable mouse and keyboard that'll work for sitting on your couch and gaming/web browsing on your TV.
So Fractured Space is free to play on Steam this weekend. It'll go F2P when it launches, but if you play it this weekend you'll have it unlocked for good until it has its proper launch - otherwise they have a founder package thing going on to buy access.
It's a rather slow-paced capital ship moba/arena game where you capture nodes and blast the crap out of the enemy ships. You start with three starter ships unlocked, one from each manufacturer. Playing with a ship gives you experience with that manufacturer, that you use to unlock different loadouts for that manufacturer's ships as well as other ships from that manufacturer.
I think there's a bonus XP thing going on as well, so with that in mind I had enough spacebucks to unlock a second ship after three games.
Is the Crystal Upgrade for Dungeon of the Endless worth $4?
The character you get is unique in that their strength lies in research, which is pretty neat, and if you want a very serious challenge the Refreezerator is the ship for you, but if you're new to the game I wouldn't worry about it. I feel it's more aimed towards veterans looking for more content than newcomers.
I might take another stab at the Refreezerator Pod this weekend having said that. Finding the right, single hero is a tricky business. Operating heroes are out because you're the only one opening doors (unless you get unlucky or suicidal with Rhino Beetles), floor-wide monster damage is in, crowd control is in, speed is DEFINITELY in and in that vein the Scamper passive would be very useful... If only Chef weren't such a lardass he'd be a shoe-in. I think the short list has gotta be Skroig, Lady, Troe or Ken. Decisions!
@Kalnaur I decided to sleep on it and in the morning I got an email saying that my Shadowrun Hong Kong pledge has finally gone through (long story) so there goes my vidjagaem money. Ahh well, next time!
So is there a particular reason why I keep getting friend requests on Steam from random 0 level accounts that go by names like [Unassigned]? Did something happen?
Maybe Valve should institute a "you have to buy a game before you can friend request people" rule.
Like a lot of online games do, they should make new/basic accounts only able to receive friend requests but not send them. If you are a legit user just ask your friends to add you and bots are gone.

I heard from a guy, a few days ago, that he never received any invite from those kind of bots, mainly because he never joined any major steam group. He's also a pretty popular guy with level 70 and quite a few hundred games on his account. I don't know if this is true but maybe it could be a cause.
Also the guy behind Enhanced Steam and Idle Master, created a neat bot repellent. Here's the link.

edit: same devs that did Strike Suit Zero.
I've played a bit of Fractured Space and kinda come away feeling disapointed in it.
The combat feels floaty, weapons don't feel all that sluggish/impactful for capital ship sized stuff and the current implementation of fleets is as a 'hit button, slightly annoy enemies health bar' style thing. To be honest other than the movement speed it doesn't really feel like you're piloting a big ship at all. That combined with a single map and mode that feel like they want to be a MOBA but has none of the depth or feeling of working towards a goal that genre brings and the whole thing feels like a fantastic idea that just misses the mark.
If you want a game about big ships dog fighting with MOBA abilities then Dreadnaught looks set to do so far better. If you want a game about co-ordinating fleet movements, compositions and a long term conflict over terrain then Fractured Space isn't really going to fill that void, as much as it seems close to achieving that goal.
Heads up, Someone is copying @Basil and making a steam profile that looks exactly like his and friending people trying to phish. If you see someone on your friends list already that tries to friend you, check and make sure its not a copy account.
Also NEVER CLICK ANY LINKS THAT SAY SHIT LIKE STEAM COMRNUNITY AND SHIT. Verify links before clicking anything random. Dont get phished and fuck others on your friends list.
