Had a test run with my new guitar against G rank rathian. Sure would be nice if I could have a comprehensive song reference on the touchscreen.
It seems like I have to balance between getting notes and using good attacks, except that there isn't so much difference that I can't just attack based purely on what note I want next and cycle through songs to keep all the desired effects going.. and basically never use encore if there is a large monster in the same area that isn't disabled somehow.
I have a second question; What is the deal with the Caravan 6* quests? Do they just unlock one at a time? I am on the Gore Mangala quest I guess, after doing the Kirin urgent. When can I expect to be able to farm some of the high rank mons in offline?
6* quests are weird because 6* was the single-player endgame in non-Ultimate MH4. If you're not up to HR4/5, getting there will unlock a bunch of quests. Eventually even HR6/7 will be required. Otherwise, they'll keep unlocking in a linear order.
Worth noting that 10* Caravan works the same way, only with Gathering (Assembly) Hall G-ranks.

Yeah, I got to Hall HR4 a couple weeks ago but unlocked a bunch of Caravan 6* quests (that hunting festival thing that ends with you finishing off the tutorial's Dah'ren Mohran).

Ugh. I ate a ton of dumb hits that fight. A spread bow is a BAD idea for it too (and doubly so when it's not even capped on HR upgrades). And when I hit <5 min with no pots? Yuck (carts 2 and 3 were at sub 10 min as I got desperately aggressive... and really in the zone, except for having no healing and no food buffs).
Not having hitbox data also REALLY hurts as a gunner.
Edit: If the crimson's hitboxes are anything like normal... well, WTF that's just TRYING to screw gunners over. Also, it's a ridiculous elemental weakness on a hitbox you will never, ever hit as a gunner (okay, rapid bows have a decent chance at hurting it, but everything else is fucked trying to do dragon elemental to the face, since dragon rounds are pierce type instead of normal type and both spread and pierce arrows will miss most of their damage).
The best shot hitbox is 45 to the face... and the best impact or cut are the same... at 75/80. And then it's basically 20 everywhere else for shot, while cut gets 30 against the whole forward body area... lovely.

I'm at 6 now, they're a bunch of weird advanced quests to help out the villagers. Often require you to kill tw
monsters in one quest.
Just cleared the Rathalos/Zinogre quest with 10 minutes left on the clock.
I think Gogmazios is the first fight I've felt like I need to gear up or play online to beat; I can get it to Stage 2 at about 25 minutes right now, which gives me enough time to kill it if I can keep up the pace, but I just subquest out to snag rewards. I guess I'll finish up my Gore glaive; even though it's not amazing, Gog has such ridiculous dragon weakness it would be worth it.
Yeah, but this is G rank, and the gore glaive is barely competitive with late HR glaives when maxed at G-rank (it gets boosted a good bit if you can get the Shagaru upgrade, but that's post Gogmazios G-rank).

woo just finished my daoras deathmaker, and @Frosteey was kind enough to help me grind out triple tigrex g rank to finish the guild knight boots. 700 armor baibai set complete!
with newly acquired deathmaker im going towards rajang stuff, having skipped over hr furious rajang in gathering hall. The one in caravaneers had really reduced hp so it wasnt too bad but crap, aiming every unsheathe into his face for horns is hard enough
rajang sns is apparently best sns in game, and the honed blade template that gaijin hunter shows off just looks great
Thanks to @TimFiji, @ogretz, and @Cromarty for helping me farm Seregios last night. This was clearly a set I was fated to make as I carved a Lens on our first run and wound up with a bonus second one on our third (and final — whoever put a double Seregios quest right there knew that people would want to farm it). Sorry that Teostra urgent didn't work out though, Tim.
Yeah, I am unsure what precisely I am missing, because I have run out of 6* Caravan quests, with the final one being the first HR Gore Mangala. I am in HR5 in the Gathering Hall. Are these 7* Caravan quests given by someone other than the 'Marm?
If you do those you'll unlock a quest to kill an HR Tetsucabra which makes a good defensive set.
Are any of those in the Gathering Hall? I apologize for asking an easily answered question, but I cannot look stuffs up at work. I am much less familiar with what I have accomplished online as I typically just join rooms and do whatever quests everyone is doing until eventually an urgent unlocks. I fly through HRs online by the seat of my pants.
Edit: Example - I joined on some room yesterday to "Raise HR" in HR5, and then killed a bunch of Azure Rathians. I have like 160 DEF.
I think you need to go to the shrine in the north of Cathar to get the final LR quest.
Yeah that one's really obnoxious because the "..." icon doesn't appear on your map. They added that ability in for concert hall quests in Dundroma, but for some reason didn't patch Cathar — or I guess Cheeko Sands but you'll be checking in on Sansung Isle anyway.

Have you checked all the cities? The quest chain I mentioned starts from the leader of the... underground lava city, whatever it's called.
All quests come from Marm, but a lot of them won't show up there until you talk to someone.
I have fought the Shagaru Magala. And then I had a bunch of advanced: quests to do varying things, culminating in the back-to-back Urgent-> Advanced Dahren Mohen or w/e on the ship. Then the Kirin Urgent and most recently a quest to hunt a HR Gore Magala. It sounds like I may have to take a tour of cities to unlock some things. I had read that I need to surpass HR4 and HR5 for some things, so I did that before tackling the HR Gore in Caravan 6*, but upon clearing the quest, nothing new unlocked. As you mentioned, I think I may need to have a conversation to get things moving. I was just frustrated because I was expecting to have some offline quests to hunt HR starting monsters, so I could craft up a new set with some higher DEF. I guess I was just ham-fisting things instead of exploring out the other offline unlocks.
Edit: I suppose a welcome side-effect of tackling all this HR stuff in LR armor is that my positioning game is becoming pretty onpoint.

I've tried waiting for him to get to sleep, dump a lightning trap down and throwing the tranq bombs but he didn't seem to care much, then after getting some more from the sub quest and hitting him some more and another lightning trap didn't catch him either.
Worrying about annoying people online is why I'm soloing basically everything, honestly. In a game where trying to chat is so difficult due to the keyboard thingy and thus explaining yourself is a gigantic pain, it seems like the potential to piss people off would be rather high.

That... should have worked? If it was actually sleeping. You hit him with two tranqs, yes?
Eh don't avoid people out of the worry you'll upset people. Outside of being someone who gets one shot all the time going after monsters you won't upset other hunters just by being there.
Only thing tip I could see that is kind of wrong is the constant sheathing, if you have a great sword with fast sheath and draw skills you're constantly sheathing...
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.

Did he stand up, get caught in the electrical trap, then ignore the tranq bombs?
I disagree with the constant sheathing thing. There are fights where I wish people would sheathe MORE, so they can super dive. You gain better mobility and can approach monsters faster. He should have phrased it as "Do your best to keep up the pressure without dying". Constantly getting hit because you are swaxing and slow and not sheathing when at long range (more than a roll distance) is bad. When the monster is on opposite end of the arena, you sheathe and close distance. And crit draw builds rely on constant sheathing.
There are only two cardinal sins in pub rooms for me. Triple carting because you are underprepared and leeching. And with PAers and friends, I do not even care about those.
I'll allow triple carting on hard fights that have a one shot instant kill that can sneak up on you, like higher level guild ranks of teostra and chamelon can go from fine to fucked right away.
Triple carting on like regular g rank diablos... yeah maybe, maybe you should farm some velios nub!
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Pretty much, he went from napping to being electrocuted to ignoring my bombs and walk away and continued attacking me.
They heal a bit when sleeping. So you may have to smack them after the 2nd tranq with a quick attack. It has happened often enough to me that I always prepare to do it, just in case. The paintball does not update with cap guru until after they wake up, which is annoying.
It does not work after sleep status effects. It only works if they have low health.
Status down armor skill penalty will require one more tranq.
If you've trapped the monster multiple times, the trap length is really short. After two traps, it is short enough that they will break free before the 2nd tranq
I'm pretty sure it hit with tranq's because I ran after using them. I was right on top of him too so yeah, maybe something went glitchy.
If the monster has been sleeping a while it can recover above the capture threshold. If the monster has been sleeping for a really long time and you fail a cap, go back, resupply, punch, and cap, it might still be above the capture threshold. Especially in G-rank, where the capture and limp thresholds are ~10 % total HP.
EDIT: Also, G-rank Teostra shouldn't be a one hit kill if you're properly geared and go into the fight with nonnegative fire resistance. It does a lot, but it's probably 135 damage if I get hit by supernova, and if you're fighting him during rage without using Wystone timers or mounting, you should always stay at full HP for that reason.
Honestly even triple carting doesn't matter to me if you're just having an off fight or something. We all have bad hunts.
I only care about it when the player refuses to prepare themselves correctly after an initial failure. That's when I get annoyed. I.E. If you're getting hit more then you might need to bring combines for potions or you refuse to eat to fix a resistance issue after you just triple carted to a fireball in your Double Gore set.
The easiest way to tick me off is to either hack in tailismans/armor or be a leecher.
If you're playing and trying you're good by me.
