I managed to beat him with abit under 8min left on the clock using a Prominence bow. He went into rage mode 4 times during the fight, lol. Not a good time but atleast I won!
Did the Rathalos / Rathian quest after that. I beat it, despite a bunch of BS. Rathian went down in like 5 minutes, but Rathalos decided he would rather change zones constantly than fight. So I spent almost the entire time chasing him over and over until I beat him down enough to limp. Which was hard because when he would stay in one zone, he would just fly constantly and I could barely hit him with my charge axe. Grrr! Then finally I have like 8 min left on the clock and go to trap him...and the game bugs out. He grapples me but gets stuck in the trap, and the grapple bar disappears but I'm stuck in the grapple animation, unable to control my character, until he breaks free of the trap. I got really angry and went berzerk and he ends up killing me. However there is 1 ez shock trap in the box and about 5min left so I rush to go trap him. I find him sleeping, lay the trap right next to him and smack him to wake him up then get ready to throw the tranqs...and he immediately changes zones!! I am furious! I was convinced I had failed the quest since I had no time left really and he was not tagged so I wasn't sure where he went, but I went to the next zone. He's there and I manage to down him in a few attacks with 2:05 on the clock. I'd feel better about the win but man, it felt like the game itself was trying to make me fail.

i think i am going to shoot for arena again, black belt looks much nicer. pink/ az rath 2-man in the arena with set gear is a woefully unpleasant experience though.
i thought black belt helm was deviljho and dos gravi? dos gravi sucks, but it's doable eventually. they give you like a billion potions.
dos gravi and colour code pay out the same coins. the raths seem like the better deal (assuming the gravs are able to laser through the fence). if they can't that changes things somewhat. did that stupid quest twice last night, stupid RNG just doled out 1x ace hunter coin each time and that was it, so i have to do it an unspecified number of additional times until it decides to give me 2 flying coins :<

Yeah this happens a lot. Well... not like EVERY time or anything, but frequently enough that you will learn to just roll with it while cursing mildly.
To be fair the way rooms are "inherited" means that you can't always rely on the designated targets. I try to reset them ASAP if I get passed the flag but you can never be fast enough some times.
Sure. I get that. It is just frustrating every time I go into a pug room something like that happens. If it's not wrong quests it's people subquesting out on you or someone with hackalishious charms.
Meh. I might just be burned out and need a few days away.

do brute tigrex for flying coins. dos gravi at least is ace hunter coins only afaik.

I've not seen it with a trap before, but you could definitely get caught in a 'pin' animation without being actually pinned in both Tri and TriU. It mostly seems to happen when either a monster hits two players with one pin attack, or you dodge weirdly and only get clipped by the attack. I'd imagine getting pinned whilst the monster hits a trap would do a similar thing.
This is demonstrably true.
Normally I would say "don't fight gravios" but in this case if you bring a buddy you can each solo one and it's not a big deal at all.

Anything that interrupts the monster's pin animation after it hits you but before it actually pins you can cause it, in my experience. Sometimes you get up, sometimes the game holds you down for no reason. It's probably a split-second timing thing.
I'd take the hacked charms on teammates as a roll of the dice in your favor. If anything, evens out the game doing something grotesque like dropping Apex Rajang in your simple Desert Seltas quest.

Meh. It really bothers me.
I mean, do what you want solo but, in multi I want to hunt and not play who has powersaves and can get an insane skill set. It's even worse with the super status weapons.

Finally found a high rank set that shouldn't look completely like ass (inspite of the gloves) and gives great bow skills:
Kut-Ku U for everything except for Tets Leggings S.
Gives me:
Marathon Runner
Critical Eye + 3
Half Stun (from a charm and gem slots)
With no downsides and not needing any slots on the weapons.
The really nice thing about it is it basically uses parts from most of the easier high rank monsters (Kut-Ku, Tets, E-congala and Velocidrome) so farming it so far has being a great learning experience too.
Also on the whole hacked charms thing I really couldn't give a fudge provided they're things that the game could legally give you. The amount of RNG involved in charms for how significant a difference they can make to your play style is kinda dumb.
The thing is that very few people are using it to get a legal charm in the game.
Everyone makes some Edgemaster +14 Edgelore+14 3 slot or similar monstrosity. They use it to basically just give themselves a ton of skills.
It's impossible to know if it's some normal charm you hacked in. I mean if someone wants to hack in a +7 Handicraft 3 slot or an edgemaster +4 charm. . . I'll never know they didn't get it legally and I don't much care. That's only effecting the game for them.
The former is MUCH more common than the latter. It's breaking the game.

What weapons are good for fighting Kirins? Chasing after it with sword and shield seems time consuming and I barely get to reach its only area where I won't bounce, its head.

Gunnery to the face. It's not very threatening aside from charging then.
Otherwise you want SA imo, high reach and solid poke, also easy esp.

Yeah go into it with Mind's Eye somehow and it becomes slightly more tolerable. Damned things rarely keep still, though.
Looks like the Bow and HBG videos are up on youtube but set to private. People are saying they saw them and discussing them on reddit.
Managed to get this to work, for now at least. This is supposed to be the bow with all styles, not just guild and aerial like the other videos have been so far. Gaijinhunter will probably have his translated vids for these out soon-ish like the prior ones.

i use a HH for kirin, free ESP and good mobility for chasing him around. if you can use negate stamina for your team that'll grease the wheels somewhat too.
Finally went up against the Tetsucabra for the first time today, and so far it was the most challenging fight I've had in my short MH career. I can now see what you lot were talking about when you said different weapons work better on different baddies. I've been using the S&S, but I feel like the hammer or something would have been better in that fight.
Like the bow vid I linked earlier it has all the styles and is likely from the larger all styles video Capcom is supposed to release soon featuring all weapons.

Tets is fine, he just wants to show you that rock he's so proud of.
And honestly SnS will probably work well enough against him. Both his sets of legs (where you're probably aiming for in most SnS fights) are vulnerable enough to get damage done decently. Just gotta watch out for that roll he does.
Also have you tried Charge Blade? Alot of new players like it as a weapon because it's relatively simple and super versatile.
Who wants to fight a lot of white fatalis sometime tomorrow evening or this week?
I could make myself available for such a thing. I need to run the other episode quests first, tho.

So I got this a couple weeks ago as my first "One for me, one for my girlfriend," buy. I've got things narrowed down to Greatsword, Hammer, or Gunlance in terms of preferences and have a pretty solid handle on the first two.
Is there anything far-and-away good that I should be after in the early game? I've just started clearing Harth quests and got myself a relic hammer, and Tetsucabra armor is looking like a decent investment.
Tets armour is great for when you're starting due to the good defensive skills.
Greatsword super benefits from the LR sharpness set (gore/ceantaur) but that's a bunch of grinding that's probably not worth it unless you find killing Najarala's super fun.
Other good LR sets are Jaggi (speed sharpening and lower stun) and Velociprey (attack up and lower stun). Both of which are reasonably simple to farm.
In general Low Rank isn't something you need to super worry about being optimal in. They'll give you most the items you need except extra whet stones and mega potions and provided your weapons upgraded monsters will go down in reasonable times without some min maxy set of armour.
Also with food eat either Meat and Fish (attack up and can get speed sharpening or extra KO/exhaust damage for hammer) or fish and bread for defense up (either take weakener for faster hunts or defense hi for being saved by RNG).
Also if you ever go online you can pretty reliably post your room number in this thread while it's up and people will come hunt with you.

Damnit Pubbies. . .
So I closed my 3ds and played something else.
