DmC was a bad game made into a good game (that still wasn't on the level of DMC 3 & 4, but I'd put it above DMC1) by the Definitive Edition. It looked gorgeous, but it played really badly until the fixes that edition made.
It still bugs the absolute shit out of me that the definitive edition never came to PC.
i liked DmC post-patches substantially more than dmc4, which always felt disgustingly weightless to me. the more i played dmc4 the more i hated it - meaningless mechanical fiddle with no systemic elegance at all
dmc3 was so much juicier
If I'm being honest, I don't think I've ever actually finished DMC4 on Dante Must Die mode. Not because it was too hard (honest!) but because I keep getting bored of it well before the end.
This isn't a problem that DMC3, MGR or Bayonetta had for me. I'm hoping that DMC5 is more like them.

yes dmc4 had this weird mix of stuff that was just... make-work? eg blue rose and red queen were both just fiddling and had mostly very obvious optimal ways to use them, so it was not so much creativity as much as just grinding out the hours to get them down. the fact that much of dmc4 was hugely ameliorated by just, uh, changing the control scheme was also pretty stupid - and then the stuff that wasnt makework was kind of... just dumb noodling. it was the game equivalent of a drum solo; impressive to a very small number of afficionados but totally without elegance or interest

Yeah...I did hate how the default control scheme was actually detrimental to efficient play.

first time i played dmc3 was on a keyboard which made jump cancelling insanely easy so i was seeing all these tutorials about how to make it work and getting totally confused only to find out years later when i tried it on a controller that the default control scheme was atrocious
same is true in dmc4 - trying to hold the pistol shots with the default control scheme is like HOW MANY FUCKIN FINGERS HAVE I GOT DAWG
I think in DMC5 you can charge the guns without holding the button down, so that's nice.
Yeah, based on the demo alone, I feel like Nero's systems got some real quality of life improvements between the gun charging and the new more generous control and Exceed inputs.

Still not enough for me to like playing as him sadly.
Definitely a bummer that you have to play as him for so many missions.
I really thought I'd get to play a majority of the game as Dante or V if I wanted to.
I might pick this up, hmm! My wife loved DmC (yeah, I know) and that was her first experience with the series. This looks great, especially demon summoning Kylo Ren.

No reason to say "yea I know" it was a legit awesome game.

yes i ended up having a lot of fun with it especially when things like the fist weapons ended up being super fun if you used them in particular ways with the parry system etc
charge, backhop to counter an attack, release attack as another enemy attacks, charged attacks havign super launch and super interrupt properties etc
lots of fun little things

DmC also contains the best 10 second exchange that any game has ever had, so it's got that going for it.
Playing DmC right now, because I bought it on a Steam sale a few years back. I dislike the "hold shoulder button to switch weapons" concept, my fingers just dont want to operate that way with my 360 controller.
Bummed to hear that in 5 you have to use Nero for so many missions, I never got into 4 because of that. After you beat it do they let you play through missions as different characters? I assume so, or else it seems like Lady/Trish wouldn't be playable based on that mission list above. That would for sure bump 5 up on my purchase list.
According to the IGN Review, I think it was the IGN review, you do not get to replay missions with different characters. There are two missions where you have a choice. 1 mission lets you pick between Nero and V, and 1 mission lets you pick between Nero, V, and Dante.
Other than that each mission is exclusive to one character with no option later to replay it as someone else.

I had no idea they reworked DMC. I played the game at launch in its original version. It was a decently enjoyable game but didn't feel quite like a real devil may cry game.
I guess you guys are mostly referencing the new "hardcore mode"?
Here's an overview of the differences in difficulty for any interested.
Human = Enemies have 100% health and 100% damage Devil Hunter = Enemies have 200% health and 200% damage = Unlocks Son of Sparda Son of Sparda = Enemies have 400% health and 400% damage. Enemies attack much quicker. New enemies spawn. = Unlocks Dante Must Die and “Irregular Full Custom” skill for Dante. Dante Must Die = Enemies have 800% health and 800% damage. Enemies are most aggressive and the enemy groups are same as Son of Sparda. = Unlocks Heaven and Hell, Hell and Hell, and Infinite Devil Trigger costumes Heaven or Hell = You and enemies die instantly in 1 hit Hell and Hell = You die in 1 hit. Checkpoints are disabled. Only 3 revives per mission. Enemies are based on Son of Sparda (400% health, same attack speed and enemy spawns as Son of Sparda).
There is a trophy for S Ranking all missions on Hell and Hell. But because of the multiplier you get for not getting hit, even if you do shitty combos just going through the game not getting hit will pretty much get you an S Rank for each mission.

I was watching someone rage at V's gameplay on a stream for the Panther "attacking air" and not an enemy when the streamer just didn't notice that every time you dodge as V the Panther returns to V's position.
Because, if you're dodging something as V then the Panther automatically jumping to you is so it can tank the thing that you just dodged.

It's been a spell since I've played a character action game, but I might have a go at Son of Sparda at the start.
You have to beat it on Devil Hunter to unlock Son of Sparda as per Viskod above.
I'm not sure if this is true or not...I hope it is got this from the SE thread.
Its a pretty fun spoiler if its true so be warned.
Someone said that the first time you fight Urisok or whatever(the demon king guy) its a fight you're supposed to lose. That said you don't have to lose the fight and if you win you'll get a joke ending then hard mode will unlock.

Hah. That's pretty funny.
And kinda makes sense actually in a cool way.

So if I preorder from Green Man Gaming or Fanatical, the money still goes to the publisher right? I want to get the best deal, but I also want Capcom to make money off of this.
Game is preloaded. I moved the furniture in my living room in order to put my computer rig in front of 2 B&W 683s powered by a 200W NAD amp. I'm ready.

Also being able to go into a realm of digital news and fight a Fox News anchor as a boss. That game is an acid trip of weird ideas and it's great.
Of course!
I also really liked DmC but it certainly had its flaws.

I wonder if it'll have co-op...that'd be great.

Reading up on those changes makes me want to play that new version. Maybe after I'm done with 5.

60fps, balance tweaks to enemies(namely when it came to dealing with those annoying color-coded enemies) and other stuff to make the game smoother.
Old, and yet still so relevant to the current hype levels.

Yeah, I'm pretty annoyed the PC never got this version cause it sounds far more enjoyable than the standard version.
