    Guess who just killed
    Gehrman
    .

    I did.

    That speedy motherfucker.

Died to him twice yesterday, grinded blood vials today, and went after him. Prey Slaughtered.
And then I got the Moon Presence down to a third of it's health before it knocked the shit out of me.

I hope you bought the blood vials after farming echoes instead of actually grinded them from drops

I thought the moon presence was a super lame fight. Fuckin' tentacles everywhere, asshole flying about, the six hours you have to slap his nuts around when he's doing his impotent aoe thing.

Gehrman was more fun the first time I fought him, but in the two times I've beaten him since, I've had him on lock. He's so easy to bait and predict.
I still thing gascan is my favorite fight in the game. I can parry him all the way to beastmode (haven't been able to kill him without the transform, yet...) without getting hit, but I'll still occasionally eat shit once he transforms, since he's just so damn aggressive.

Killed Amygdala, bought a bunch of bullets and vials thanks to that. Amygdala might have my favorite boss tactic of the game.

Finally sat down and played again today.
Beat Micolash. Likely could have killed him on the first try today if I hadn't gotten killed by the little crossbow guy because I wasn't really paying attention to him. Also beat the Celestial Emissary, he was insanely easy, and I felt like I should have maybe fought him way earlier. So now I have four choices: Ebrietas, Mergo, Logarius, or finally do the Nightmare Frontier. Ebrietas just seems awful, and I'm pretty sure every attack she does can one shot me.

I love the Gehrman fight. Way more than Father G.

I do agree about MP though. Easy, boring fight. The blood regen thing is a pretty newt mechanic, though, I thought. Creative implementation of the system as a boss ability.

Yeah I don't want to bag on the gehrman fight, since it is pretty great. I'm sort of crazy and like the fact that all the shit in the graveyard can hang you up as opposed to the wide open gehrman arena though.

What was the blood regen thing? I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, but I've only fought it once.

I actually didn't have as easy a time with old MP as other people seem to describe. I think I still beat him on the first try, but I also did that with dirty G right before him. It was late at night and I was tired so I don't really remember what was hurting me, but a couple times I got low and he had me numbing misted so I couldn't heal and what not.

And yeah, vitality is definitely something you want to level more in this game, for a number of reasons:

    1) Biggest one is that the game is straight up designed around the regain system to a certain extent, so if you're getting 1 shot or losing 90% of your max health in one hit, you're at a disadvantage.
    2) In other souls games, you can use heavy armor, a shield, or both and your effective HP and ability to avoid damage is just higher in every way.

But I think Desmond said in a previous post he likes to simulate NES style die in 2 hits type gameplay with his Souls, so it makes sense if he likes to roll that way. No shame in that. It's not my cup of tea, but there's no wrong way to play Souls.

Me, I have 50 VIT and a +10% max health Caryll rune on and i'm still feeling vulnerable all the time. i'm on NG++ but still.

After living the dream, I would agree. I never put points into hp in any Souls game, but some parts of this game are just kicking my ass.

I also didn't know if I'd be able to survive the fall to the abandoned workshop, but that luckily wasn't a problem.

Oh, I thought you had mentioned it. Its when he takes you down to one health and then gives you some extra.time to make it back.

Just kind of a neat little trick that you go "ohshitohshitohshit" to at first and then figure out what the game wants you to do.

I did defiled chalice at something like 30 VIT, it was probably the single most horrible thing I have been subjected to in-game. The game isn't being very subtle about telling you to put points in VIT at that point.

Ok. So I am at a loss:
How the hell do you kill Ebrietas? I can get her down to half, but then she spouts the Nova star of death while making flying lunges that are really hard to dodge away from considering her size and then oops I'm dead.

    Any tips?

I was stuck on her so I went to explore somewhere else. Found enough chunks that I could upgrade cannon to +8. Came back to her.
bone marrow cannon, shoot head twice, v. attack, charged 2H Ludwig, dashed to her back for a few more charged stabs, dead. I don't know if you have the weapons to do this.

In my desire to do a run with as little looking up of things as possible, I have missed getting a cannon. It is likely in one of the areas that I desired to spend as little time in as possible, or just an area with enough nooks and crannies that I missed some.

Oh wow I totally missed that, or more likely, didn't notice I guess? Crazy.

Its pretty easy to mistake as a regular, hard hitting ability until you notice that
it has infinite range and will always take you to 1 health regardless of how much you currently have.

The first two times it got me I just assumed it was a big ass aoe like Gehrmans anime air slice that I'd barely survived and just pumped vials. But I noticed that he sits still for a while after using it, and your "amount to heal" stay for like 15 extra seconds.

Its probably possible to miss entirely if the fight ends quick. Only started happening post 50 or 30% for me.

I'm still unsure if I care about playing through the chalice dungeons. So far they are just boring, but I heard they get better. Just not sure if I care to spend the time to get to when they get good.

Yeah looking at the wiki, I guess that AOE is what does it. I know he used the AOE twice when I fought him, but I'm almost certain I didn't get it. One of the things I read says that if you stay behind him or do a well timed dodge or some shit you can avoid it, so I guess it might be that. It would jibe with me talking shit on it as appearing totally harmless.

There are some neat boss fights in there but the dungeons themselves feels mostly just repetitive combined with occasional bullshit. They became far less annoying once I started using the hunter's axe instead of the ludwig when clearing trash though, the axe is just such a beast due to its R2 even though it doesn't have the pure damage output that the sword has at high levels.

  • Cilla BlackCilla Black Priscilla!!! Registered User regular
The Chalice Dungeons are a good time investment if you want better blood gems, more excuses to play the game, or if you want the plat trophy. They are otherwise fairly pointless.

You can get one blood rock, though, and only one.

I'll feel a lot better about farming them once they lower the load times. Even with the inferior drop rate, lower load time would still make it better than the damn run to New Londo for chunks in the original DS.

I haven't gotten to the farming phase yet in BB, but I'm really hoping my farming luck from Dark Souls will carry over.

The only farm I can recall using was the area with all those slimes that dropped twinkling stuff in the first dark souls.

Actually that said, I'm pretty sure I have repressed a memory of some horrible farming in demon's souls but I'm not keen to unearth that one thank you very much.

I don't recall the farming really, but there are still things in Demon's Souls that I have never seen/experienced by virtue of the world tendency system.

Neat idea, really not fun to actually mess with though.

No wait I know how I beat him. . .actually found the place before I was heading to NG+ and just destroyed him. Bleah.

he is the easiest fight in the game if you know the trick.

the trick is to hit him in the leg until he falls down, and then do that some more.

also saw weapons do a bit of extra damage to him because he is definitely a beast.

    That's just flavor text

There's actually a stat that shows damage modifiers vs kin and beast respectively, and the saw weapons just do normal damage vs beasts

No, it's been legit confirmed I believe that Saw weapons do extra damage to beasts like Paarl, Werewolves, the darkbeasts and things like Vicar Amelia and Cleric beasts.

If you notice they keep up with damage with things like the Axe and Kirk's one-handed mode while having less base damage and less scaling on beasts in particular.

Made a ton of progress today, as usual skipping most new posts to try to avoid spoilers. I haven't played since I killed Amelia last weekend. I started by doing some Eileen stuff,
talked to her outside of cathedral hall then went and helped her kill Henrik in the Father's Graveyard. Simple side fight since Henrik changes targets easily. I noticed I could damage Eileen though so I tried to attack accordingly. No issues there.

Afterwards I went and cleared Hemwick and the boss there,
Two shotted the Witch. Super easy boss, the only reason I died the first time was because she hit me with a trap spell and then I got mobbed. Clearing the mobs instantly became first priority and then from there it was really simple.

Went to Hypogean Gaol and fought Darkbeast Paarl,
Took 4 or 5 tries because I kept dodging into his swipes instead of before he started. Finally got the rhythm down and he was simple after that. Camera was awful on this boss in particular, I felt like I couldn't attack anything while I was locked onto him so I had to keep locking on and off to focus my attacks. I didn't clear this area afterwards though, so I'm gonna go back next time just to see if I missed anything.

Went to Cathedral Hall and worked my way to Forbidden Woods,
Cleared the majority of this area. At least I think I did. I got the tonsil stone from the only talking person I could find who told me to go back to the ghost door at Grand Cathedral, but I was hard pressed to find that shortcut back to the lamp before going anywhere else. I had about 60k echoes by the time I find the tower with the snake guys. What the hell man! It's like Resident Evil 5 enemies all over again, except these things are snakes inside people that do poison. Thankfully there's only two of them between the wooden tower and the lamp shortcut. Opened that gate, went and leveled up.

Then got curious, wanted to see what that guy was talking about great strength and some weird shit happened outside of Grand Cathedral,
Ghost thing ate me? I think that's what happened. I have no idea who Amygdala is but he was talking some trash. Then I got transported to a completely new area called the Nightmare Lecture building. I started going through there but didn't really want to progress without finishing the woods up. So I backpedaled and went back to the dream.

Leveled a ton today, like 15 or 16 levels. Maxed my vitality to the 30 soft cap, now I'm working on my endurance. Maxed out my cane with what I could, still haven't found blood chunks yet. Kind of hoping I find a better Dex weapon soon, or that the Cane scales to S at +10. Also had a bunch of really awesome blood gems that pumped up my cane damage a lot.

Really enjoying the game, it just keeps getting more creepy while getting more awesome.

I have the weirdest problem right now.

I'm so satisfied after killing the penultimate boss that I don't feel compelled to continue. I will, but there's a lesser sense of urgency then before.
I just feel so good killing Gehrman. Even got a visceral attack in. That's what he gets for insinuating that I can fuck the doll.
