Honestly I don't think they even tried for balance in attire. Some is just straight superior, and then you might find something with 30 more of one defense at the cost of like 20-30 points in every other one.
And then there's the doll set. Which is just insultingly bad. Especially when you look at Dusk's set in Dark Souls.
Edit: Actually, Dusk's set was really good - looked good, was on par for defense/weight (actually I think they nerfed the skirt part hard because it was too good), and the crown is basically mandatory for mages (because damage amp).
I literally cannot believe this is happening. It has to be some sort of trick and I'm not supposed to be here yet and need to do something else first to make this area actual possible to survive. But this is the only area I have left to explore. But I must be missing something, because I refuse to believe the things that are happening here are the way it is actually designed for you to play.
there is a trick to it
alternately, as with any area, just booking it past everything is a valid option
I just ran past everything, grabbed all the items and died. Repeat until area cleared. Boss went down on the second try, seems to be about standard.
If you can tell me what the trick is here, I'd love to know.
Enemies respawning nonstop is not fun. And it's breaking the core mechanic in all of these games.
I stopped to look up what the bell girls did on the boss, just to make sure I had to kill them. Then I just wailed on it and it died surprisingly fast.
Current Mood:
Oh yeah(First Spoiler)
They do indeed put that area there to fuck with you, but once you know where all the Bell Maidens locations are, it's cake.
Everything after that is not so bad though, and there's some pretty ace shortcuts.
i have no problem with how bloodborne does armor; you can just wear whatever you want, and you're never crippling yourself, or if there's a specific threat you need to defend against, you can stack resistance to that thing for modest but noticeable results

it's really the best of both worlds
wear what looks good
i would prefer the armour to be more like the weapons, in that each should have fairly different effects, abilities, uses, etc.; pick the armour you want based on your playstyle
i don't really like the straight-up progressive increase in the power of armour in Souls games, and the way armour made little difference in Bloodborne is a bit disappointing

Once again, doll set. It literally has 1/4 the defense of every other set in the game.

meh
i'd rather load up the actual important stuff on things like rune slots and blood gems
otherwise, the armor becomes just one more thing that gets crushed beneath the wheels of powergaming efficacy

it and the foreign set are the only two that are noticeably weaker across the board
there's got to be like, fifteen or sixteen sets
it's just not that big a deal
and in any case, have you tried wearing the doll set, if you want to? there's a good chance you'll be just fine; it's not like dark souls where you're gonna get fucked by not meeting poise breakpoints or something
I'd post a fashionsouls, but that means turning on the PS4, booting up the game, taking a screenshot, finding a USB drive, flipping it thrice to put it in the PS4 properly, navigating through menus to copy it over, retrieving the thumb drive, flipping it thrice to put it in the PC, opening the file in GIMP, resizing it, saving it, then finally posting it to the forums.

And I exhausted myself just typing that.
i just posted it to a tweeter i have for this purpose
So, I got this the other day and am all kinds of lost. I've killed the cleric beast, gascione, and the blood starved beast, and unlocked the shortcut to the cathedral with the key you can buy. I went through thet cathedral a bit but eventually got murdered by 2 hunters I was only hitting for 20 damage or so. What do?
Hmm. I assume you eventually went right and down towards a more grassy area or something?
Wrong way.
The main cathedral doors are the next major objective at that point.
Additionally, there's a somewhat important optional area that can be done at the moment as well.
It can be found by heading to the left as opposed to the right near the grand cathedral doors (those two hunters were down the right path). You'll enter a grassy field that leads to a tunnel.
My hunter is wearing the knight chest piece, the surgical long gloves, white church pants, and most importantly the Crowfeather mask
fancy plague doctor. Which is why I threw myself at the bloody crow for fucking hours yesterday
I wanted that gat damn mask, and I don't like murdering random non-hostile NPCs
It's why I didn't kill master willem, even though I know he gives me a good rune if I waste him. He ain't doin nothin, just sittin' there in his rocking chair!
EDIT: It's also why I might be locked out of the "true" ending because I can't bring myself to just murder pregnant Iosefka, and I think I missed an earlier umbilical cord

I agree, buuuuuuuuuuuut...
The impregnated "Iosefka" is actually quite the hostile character if you break in prior to the eclipse, and a fight about as difficult as Bloody Crow. She clearly maxed out her Arcane stat.
Alright, I think I'm in the last bit of the game here. I have a couple of optional areas to finish off, but the story seems to be wrapping up. Anyone that's finished, help me out a bit.
I actually managed to get all three Cords, which apparently unlocks the best ending. I looked up what it did after getting one, just made sure I got the other one that's a bit out of the way. What exactly do I need to do with them, use them in a certain location? I know I saw a note about them, do I need to go there?
Does going to see Gherman in that area of the Dream that has finally opened up trigger the end of the game? Or do I just get a cutscene and unlock a new area, or what? Just don't want to be locked out of finishing the few things I have remaining.

Ending stuff
I'm going to try and be at least a little vague here, but yes going to see German will trigger the end of the game. You'll be given a choice to submit or fight. Each one results in a different ending.
However, if you've used three cords, choosing to fight will be followed by a different set of events which leads to a third ending.

Do you go to NG+ if you pick Submit, or can you see the ending and them go back and hit Fight and keep going for the remaining endings?

Straight into NG+
If you have PS+, upload your save to the cloud before eating any cords or choosing, and you can run through all three endings by doing each one, and then downloading the save from the cloud to choose a different one. Just make sure to shut off the auto-upload just in case until you're done.

Iosefka's dead, that's an imposter who turned her into the weird alien baby that drops a vial of her blood. Your alternative for the "true" ending is
Is it cool enough or does it unlock something, that I should do it myself instead of just watching a video?
You get some stuff for fighting, regardless of whether you do the cord ending or not, but aside from that it's just for if you want the trophies.
I thought that might be the case, didn't know if it would know to give you credit for the regular ending if you go past it to the good one.
Thanks, I should be able to wrap this up by Thursday. Now the DLC just needs to go on sale...
How much did you get the game for?
Free basically. Traded in my copy of the Uncharted Collection from my PS4 bundle while Bloodborne was on sale for $20. I have a bit of credit left over, but not sure how I feel about $20 more just for DLC.

Ah, ok. I was gonna mention the digital bundle with the game and dlc that I picked up, but your way is prolly better lol. As for dlc, if you enjoyed the game enough, it's probably worth it.
So far I've only seen one Skill weapon (the threaded came). I'm assuming there are lots of them and I'm just not finding any yet?
skill weapons in base game
threaded cane (if you didn't take it as a starting weapon)
obtain the saw hunter badge from the sewers of central yharnam, and buy it from the echo fountain
saw spear
in the dry docks in central yharnam, on one of the hanging corpses. cut it down and loot it from the body.
rifle spear
found in old yharnam on a corpse, or can be bought from the echo fountain if you got the powder keg badge
reiterpallasch
found in a chest in the first room of cainhurst castle
blade of mercy
can be bought from the echo fountain after you get the crow hunter badge, which is obtained from finishing elieen's quest or killing her and looting the badge
burial blade
can be bought from the echo fountain after defeating one of the last bosses. you'll know it when you see it.
ludwig's holy blade also scales with skill, but you get the most out of the weapon by using str and skill on it (or arcane but that's a separate discussion)
ascend to oedon chapel. find the radiant sword hunter badge and then you can buy it from the echo fountain
chikage can also be used in non trick form only, but the weapon really shines in its bloodtinge mode so I don't recommend it.
beat the boss in cainhurst and join the cainhurst covenant, you can buy it from the echo fountain
dlc skill weapons
beasthunting saif
found in the hunter's nightmare, dropping down from the first ladder you climb up after getting past the beast cutter hunter surrounded with crows in the river of blood
church pick
after obtaining the underground cell key from the research hall, open the jail cell containing the yahar'gul hunter. defeat him to get the weapon
rakuyo
there is a well in the third area of the hunter's nightmare. defeat the fiends there. good luck.
simon's bowblade (non trick form only, trick form is bloodtinge)
get it by either killing the harrowed hunter, or the harrowed hunter if you answered the affirmative to his question when you meet him in the hunter's nightmare will eventually give it to you at a certain point.
So if I'm going pure skill, and by that I mean basically leveling skill, vit, skill, vit, then endurance in that order, what's the best weapon to use, and should I go ahead and beeline to it so I can play like I'm meant to?

You can get Blade of Mercy quite early if you've got the stomach for killing a potential friend, and that's probably the most "fun" and traditional skill weapon. That said, I think the Saw Spear is arguably stronger due to its inherent +Beast damage bonus.

honestly I would say try taking every weapon you can to +6 and try it. between the main game and dlc you should get enough materials to get 4 or 5 weapons to +9, and two to +10 (before chalice dungeons).
my recommendations:
threaded cane (good all around weapon)
rifle spear (dat transformed charged R2 (which actually takes up most of the weapon's atttack budget in its moveset). a subtle weapon but pretty neat. I recommend looking up a video or two that explains its moveset)
beasthunting saif (very interesting take on the saw weapon archetype)
church pick (serrated and righteous bonuses in both forms as well as tons of thrust damage. basically super strong against beast and kin)
rakuyo
blade of mercy and burial blade are good, but the former you either have to get very early or you don't get access to it for awhile and the latter you basically can't get until just before going into NG+ or very deep in the chalice dungeons (I actually recommend using the Uncanny version of the burial blade, as it has two radials and a triangle for gem slots and its the superior one for physical damage). rakuyo and church pick are like the 2.0 versions of those weapons to a degree. its still worth trying the other two out but blade of mercy needs a lot of endurance to utilize it for its best PVE use - R1 spam lockdowns into beast roar knock downs, regen stamina while they get up and resume spam. you can destroy a lot of weaker humanoid bosses and almost all hunter fights like this trivially. as for burial blade, it carried me through my first time through the DLC. its a lovely weapon.
so I also recommend getting 15 arcane for access to beast roar and a few other hunter tools.
I do like the threaded cane, especially its versatility. Big group of mobs? Whip mode. One on one, need speed, or in a tight corridor? Cane mode. I've also used it for cheesing enemies I should not be able to kill yet; there's a giant pig who walks up the stairs right outside the area with all the bagmen and I just whipped it through the terrain until it died because the AI couldn't find me.
I'll check all those weapons out, too.
Also! I just found a fountain upstairs where you can buy shit with Insight. 20+ hours in! I'm not sure how I missed it.
