just watched the first ep and am thoroughly impressed so far. has a more serious tone than the other MCU stuff, but certainly isn't without a good deal of humour. they're also striking a good balance between presenting this as something that could happen in the real world whilst still referencing the fact that more outlandish things exist in this world.

also, to that review bitching about 'why does no one just shoot him?', someone tries in the very first fucking fight! seriously, they deal with that issue from the very beginning and i doubt that it'll be the only time it comes up. it really seems like that guy was just trying to find fault.

am impressed so far, and can't wait to see where they go with it. :)

That fight from end of ep 2 needs to go online somewhere, that link will be all I need to get a few people off the fence that weren't sure if were gonna watch.

All it needed was some cool music and different sound effects IMO, but it was definitely up there with The Raid and Oldboy for technical achievement.
Music would ruin the aesthetic because you have to hear the fight to understand how DD fights.

I love this take on The Owl.

He's better comedy relief than Foggy. :)

really? i'm loving him so far and really didn't expect too. oh well.

anyway, 2nd episode down and god damn!! Matt is certainly a different breed of hero than we've previously seen in the MCU.

    episode 2
i really didn't not expect to see a torture scene, even one so brief, in a Marvel movie or show. not until Punisher shows up at least. but obviously Matt is willing to go to the limits of what needs to be done to get what he wants. it also had a great pay off in that moment where you think he's killed the guy, only to show him in the dumpster below. that they can make you believe that a Marvel hero is even capable of murder so quickly is impressive. but showing that he still has that limit could lead to some interesting stuff later.

seriously, if this is just the beginning then i can't wait to see what's next, both in this show and the rest of the Netflix MCU shows.

If this is how far they're willing to let Matt go, it scares me to think of what we're going to see The Punisher do on Netflix considering theres no hero in Marvel's roster more ruthless than him.

Frank is going to play jump rope with intestines and rip off their jaws in graphic detail.

Question about the show, for those that watched it.

How do they (if they do at all) depict his powers, aka his radar sense. Or does he even have it?

I dig the DD suit, but the cowl needs to be red too, get rid of the black in it. Unless they go all black and use that awesome black armor from the 90's.

Maybe if Matt would shave his shitty granola beard it would look better too. What is this guy, blind hipster justice lawyer? I mean, this is supposed to be Charlie Cox not Charlie Day, I'm Automatically on Kingpin's side.

Because he doesn't look old enough to actually be a lawyer when he shaves. :-p

It's not really ever shown. (i'm at episode 6)

there's a brief scene where he says that he "sees the world on fire" and they cut to a quick glimpse of how he interprets things and that's it.

Haven't seen anything like radar sense on screen. He describes his vision as a combination of sound, smells, variations in air pressure, temperature, etc. etc., constructing an "impressionist painting" of the world around him. You don't see that except very briefly once. They rely on audio cues and close ups and so forth to show how it works.

He has all his powers. Human lie detetor, enhanced hearing and all that.

Largely they don't. They just focus heavily on sound in the fights rather than cover it up with something else.

ok, so episode 3 is a bit slower than that other two, but certainly no worse for it. lots of intrigue bookended by the brutality that will no doubt be seen as this shows defining aspect. am hooked so far and can only imagine the tension mounting up as the series progresses, and it looks like they've now introduced Fisk properly so that should be fun. :)

this is where i'm at. just finished episode 4 and its amazing how every episode has out done the previous in terms of 'holy shit' moments without it feeling forced. it shocking, but not just for the sake of it. and the action and brutality is served so well by the long quieter periods that explore the crime/conspiracy drama at the heart of everything. they've struck a great balance between the two aspects of the show with neither feeling short-changed.

They have the camera go blurring surrounding a person then zoom in on them. It's subtle. Often used for lie detecting. IIRC they slow down fight scenes for a second to do this when he dodges hits. He has enhanced hearing, it's like he's hearing a cell phone call. No fancy movie stuff like Affleck's, it works.

    More neat MCU tie ins
A bunch of the front pages Urich has framed in his office are MCU related. One is about the Hulk's rampage through Harlem, and one is about the battle of New York. I didn't get a look at the others, though I'd guess there's probably one about Hydra up there.
