So last night dropped the new GTX 970 into the machine, installed new drivers, fired up the game and changed settings. Now, everything is butter smooth at 2048X1152 (weird native monitor resolution) and I turned up a bunch of things as well. Been only playing the story so far. Wondering when I should drop online. Maybe get my feet wet tonight or something.
It makes me very happy to read this, because I just bought a new 970 to replace the dual 480s I've been using since I built my tower all those years ago. I guess the next, inevitable step is to get GTA V for a third time and start a new online character (don't want to transfer my lvl 50 char from PS3 → PS4 → PC until I'm near 100)
This is a bit of an embarrassing question, but... where can you set up who you voice chat with (e.g. friends and crew only)? I'd expect this to be in the Voice Chat settings, but either I'm totally blind or it's not there.
"Nothing is gonna save us forever but a lot of things can save us today." - Night in the Woods
I think it isn't there. It's really silly that voice chat transmits to the whole damn city.
I'll be playing with a buddy, speaking in Spanish, and then we're thrown back into the main city for whatever reason and we're greeted with "lol why are u speaking spanish stfu".
I want to convince him to use TS, but then again, the voice quality and ease of use in GTA V is pretty good. I don't understand how they thought having 32 people in the same voice chat wouldn't become hectic fast.

Check your quick menu thinger (M on kbam), I believe it's there. Not 100% on that though.

So I've beaten GTAV.
This is probably the first GTA I've beaten since GTA3; I always seem to lose interest half way into it due to missions being super long/hard with no checkpoints.
Anyway, this was one hell of a ride. Ending did its job. I'm not sure why anyone would choose the A or B route. It was clever that they went with 3 MC instead of one. My only real complaint is that I wish it was 'my character', though I suppose that's what GTA online is for; except the game just stalls whenever I try to exit the character creator.

If it's not hard locking, make sure you just wait for awhile because that first time load into Online takes fucking ages and it seems like the game is just hanging.

Yeah, especially without an SSD, the load times getting into Online initially are brutal. Like, go make a cup of tea, maybe do some light gardening, then come back & check if you're in a session yet.
Fortunately once it's loaded it takes a lot less time to jump between, depending on network hiccups. Even dropping into single player to start crew-only sessions ain't *that* bad. Once you get used to the pain, I mean. It only hurts for a while.
*sob*
I guess GTA has decided I can't play Online today. Just keep getting dumped from sessions over and over, with every player leaving within minutes. Getting sick of this shit, given it's been long enough from release for R* to get their shit together serverwise.
I'm curious: what are people's ideas on GTA Online etiquette when it comes to inviting people to sessions/missions?
This is where I'm coming from: seeing how "join crew/friends" doesn't really work for me (I get an error message and get dumped into a random or private session), the best way for me to play with Social Club friends is to invite them to a session or mission, not least because I most enjoy Coop and Versus. On the other hand, if those people are already in sessions or missions I don't want to spam them with invites. How do you guys go about this, and how do you handle being at the receiving end? Are you okay with invites from friends regardless of what you're doing, since you can always ignore them? Or do you prefer getting a message saying "I've just started a private session - let me know if you want to join for some coop!"? I don't want to tick off the people I've just friended because of coming across like a needy twerp. :P
"Nothing is gonna save us forever but a lot of things can save us today." - Night in the Woods
I'm usually up for just getting invites from other people, since if I'm in singleplayer I'll hop straight into online since I can come back to my autosave.
I invite everyone on my friendslist every 2-3 lobbies. If it gets annoying, I'm sorry, but we pick up 1-2 more people every couple of games and start having a blast. I wish there was a way to auto-disable invites if you don't want them, because I really don't want to annoy people with the spam.
And let me remind people, if you like doing random shit on GTAO (like 8 player rally races while we're all on skype and just yelling over each other and having a stupid amusing time) add CorriganX on Social Club.
CorriganX on Steam and just about everywhere else.
Just noticed something strange; when you make a custom outfit and save it, it says "Checking name for profanity" or something similar down the bottom-right. Which makes me wonder... is this a joke? Because I can't think of any other way that checking for profanity in a game where the actual characters curse up a storm makes any damn sense at all, especially given you're the only one who's ever going to see the names of your outfits.

My driver made it on the first attempt, and he only hit three backpackers, too! Actually I don't think my first try counts since I accidentally told him to stop twice which killed most of his momentum. The second time I'd positioned myself too far north and he decided to take the much longer (but much safer) freeway route instead, so it seems like there's only a very small "sweet spot" where they'll actually choose the tricky route. On the third try his brain finally malfunctioned as intended, and he ended up throwing his car off a cliff over and over until it got stuck upside down in a ditch. It seems as though there's this one corner that their AI doesn't handle well, and if they get turned around there's not enough room for them to do a U-turn properly, so they end up hurling themselves off cliffs over and over.

If you want to limit how disruptive invite spam can get, you can disable the invite sound and vibration on the phone to effectively ignore them (though you'd still see the text prompt iirc).
You can also adjust how often you receive alerts in settings>notifications, or disable all notifications entirely.

Yes, this. The game seems to make it harder than most to find people, so my current heuristic is to pop a closed-crew free roam session and just invite everyone who's online. Repeat every once in a while, to pull in stragglers.
Since we got bombarded with invites from all corners all the time anyway, I have absolutely no problem with crew members spamming me invites. Half the time I'm not quick enough to pick them up before they disappear anyway, so having more is better.

Yeah, I've got my text prompts and sounds disabled, so I'll only see invites when I look at the job bit on the phone. Mostly because I'm still getting my feet wet with playing online, and the invite spam from random people got a bit silly. I managed to buy a sweet apartment with a killer view, a nice car, and got army guns. Also clothes. Lots and lots and lots of clothes.
Anyway, if there's a way to turn crew-only invites on, I didn't see it. Can you send messages via R* social? I reckon that would be a good way to go.

I don't mind the invite spam. I've been playing a lot of single-player recently so I just ignore it, but when I do want to play online, I like that I can just mess around for a bit until I get an invite.
I've been having too much fun blowing stuff up online to even put any time into the single-player. Hit me up if you want to drive around like a moron and blow up meth heads (Social Club: Simpsania). I'm hoping to get into heists as soon as I can afford one of the high-end apartments.

I just hit rank 12 - going through the flight school stuff now. I'd be interested in checking out heists a bit later today if anyone is down. Still getting the hang of the combat though, so don't want to screw up anyone else's heists just yet.
* flight school is no joke! I've picked up gold medals in all of the lessons except the flag pickup and the shooting range one. Pretty fun!
Just played the Fleeca heist as the leader for the first time. A bit much blah from Lester, but otherwise great fun. Looking forward to some of the four-player heists; expect to be hassled about joining my crime spree tomorrow!

Is it mostly talk during driving, or cutscene talk? After finishing the singleplayer game on the PS3 when it originally came out, I find that I've got much less patience for cutscenes when playing the PC version. I guess it's partly that Rockstar's writing style is starting to grate, feeling like a step back after Red Dead Redemption. So, if I have to sit through talking without being able to drive or look around or shoot some poor guy's tires, I'll make sure to have my tablet next to me during those cutscenes so I can surf or play some Sudoku...

For heists (or anything in general, for that matter), if you need a pilot, feel free to hit me up. It's actually one of the things I'm fairly decent at in the game.

Cool man, shoot me a friend request on R*. I'm currently just running missions but would be down to check out heists sometime.
Is it mostly talk during driving, or cutscene talk?
Both, unfortunately. There are many unskippable cut scenes as well as long driving sequences with narration. Once everyone has done the Heist, you can skip the driving bits - but it penalizes you in cash.

Internet harassers are lazy, and can't come up with different language when trying to verbally assault someone else. This came up with my hiest group last night, we got stuck and had to replay the first mission over and over, and we said "man I dont want to have to repeat this ****" right as an npc said "HOLY SHIT I HAVE TO GET OUT OF HERE" and ran away. We kind of laughed about it.
But even on a more equal level NPC's abusing you is easy to ignore or laugh at, and you can directly over proportionately respond to by design. Other players however cause toxicity, even if you can shoot them.
Did Rockstar give away high end apartments at some point? I transferred my 360 account a few days ago and noticed I had a high end apartment I never bought and 1.5 million bucks.
Also, is there just the one WANG crew for all systems or should I move to a PC only crew?
