Sent a request for an invite into We Are Nice Guys, if there's anyone reading the thread that wants to let ol' Phibbs in the gang.
Been doing some Slasher since it's double cash at the moment and fun and I've got myself a decent little apartment while I save up for a heist-ready place. Also, as a returning player from PS3, there's like 10 vehicles I can just..have, apparently. Nice being able to just order a dodo or sub or Road Warrior-ized Duke.

I haven't seen too many people online lately, so I just went ahead and accepted your request.

How post-apocalyptic are public servers these days? Me and some friends were hoping to get started on the Doomsday Heist last weekend, but then we realised that the prep missions need to be done in public play. I'm not exactly looking forward to stealing cars while hackers rain flaming tanks down on us.

On pc I find that most players are pretty lax. There are a few shark card salesmen that are looking for opportunities to grief, but I normally just hop to a new session. Normally I try to sell my bunker and mc business cargo in populated open sessions, and people only fuck with me maybe 30% of the time.

The public play prep missions can be skipped for a fee. Some missions save some progress. For example, in act 1, you need to steal 4 dekuxos. If you successful steal 3 and someone blows up the 4th, then you can start over and now you only need to steal one dekuxo.

Cool, thanks. I've heard so many horror stories about hackers on public servers screwing with your character and possessions in ways that stick; if that's not as much of a problem these days, I'll hesitate less to get involved in the Doomsday Heist.

Hackers still abound, and they can still kill everyone arbitrarily, or fuck with the game world, or whatever, but they're pretty rare in my recent experience. Griefers are in every room, always; you may avoid them, or set up an empty open server (if you're on PC, and know how), but you're going to be dealing with them constantly.

Is time a gift or punishment?

Yeah, my brother and I ran into at least one hacker when I was trying to teach him the ropes of GTA Online (Rule #1 through 5: do not just click on Online from the main menu when you load up GTA 5...always load into Story Mode and get to GTA Online via the menu when you've loaded into single player).

I don't know what's up with their loading process, but these days I feel that the following is the fastest way to connect to a gta online session from a cold start.

Log into story mode ->connect to online solo session -> connect to public lobby

So since I got the super special whatever edition of RDR2 it apparently gave me $2 million in this game’s online mode? So I fired it up and it actually seems okay. Is anybody still around doing heists and stuff?

Yeah, you've gotta be careful with the big sale missions in public sessions. I usually hang out for awhile in a session to test the waters. If people seem pretty chill then I might attempt a sale in a populated session for the bonus $$$, but otherwise I normally don't have qualms about fucking off to an empty session to sell. From my experience ~90% of the people are mostly non-hostile. What I mean by that is that most players won't bother to hunt you down. They are however generally extraordinarily paranoid and will not hesitate to kill you on sight if you wander within range. They don't mean anything about it. They're just doing a thing that they've invested time into and don't want to be griefed, and by wandering within weapons range you've simply become an unacceptable risk that must be neutralized. But like a wild animal, if you respect their personal space then they normally won't bother messing with yours.

There is however a rarer subset of player who just wants to piss into everyone's cereal. While rarer, it only takes one or two to spoil of server and it's common for there to be one or two present. It's been about a year since I really played, but they generally spend almost 100% of their time in their hyrdras and oppressors. These days I suppose some of them might hang out in that stealth helicopter too.

I mostly just stuck to the import/export of super-cars. They pay is decent and the risk is fairly low. Once you get the hang of quickly racing to the destination, then there is simply only a very small window of vulnerability that a griefer can exploit. If they're not already in an aircraft or supercar of their own, then they might not be able to intercept you. Although you will need to be wary of people camping your garage if someone is keeping tabs on your work. But again, the risk of import/export is low so you can just hop sessions if you start getting harassed. The biggest tip that I can give you for doing it fast is to ignore your GPS. It plots the shortest route, which isn't what you want since it will cross through many intersections and will probably take you nearby one of the deadlier parts of town. Instead you want to memorize the route to the highway from your garage, and then plan a desired exit point from the highway that's near the destination. You can start following your GPS once you get close, but you really really want to get on that highway to really get up to the super car's top speed.

There were a few criminal organization missions that you can do for a quick buck while the important stuff is on cooldown that are pretty safe. Forgive me since I forget the names, but I'll try to describe them. One of the mission types involves you needing to steal a briefcase from some NPCs, evading the cops, and then delivering it to a dropoff point. One mission site is at the airport. If you play your cards right, you can rush the NPCs, steal the briefcase, steal a plane, and then evade the cops via air and finally just parachute down to the finish line. If you start the mission right as you're about the crash the airport's gates, then players don't have much opportunity to intercept you. Another safe bit of cash is the mission type where you need to deliver a big semi-trailer to the destination. You can spawn your MOC nearby, unhitch the default truck, and hitch up the MOC. I think that during this mission type the trailer is invulnerable to weapon's fire, and the MOC is EXTREMELY robust. I've had griefers call me a god mode hacker while delivering the trailer to the mission complete zone. Generally they just dive in with strafing runs from their hydra or oppressor, which just accomplishes next to nothing for them and they get pretty tilted when I don't blow up. Although the explosions can cause problems if the truck ragdolls and the trailer detaches. Also, if they get down to ground level, they can shoot you out of the cab. But that requires more effort than they're usually willing to expend.

Like I get that playing with other people is the appeal to it being online, but when those people have rocket helicopters and insta-kill laser guns and actual fucking tanks, you should be able to opt out until you can actually fucking compete.

Or group similar ranks together, ffs.

Set up your PS4 internet connection, select custom, turn MTU from 1500 to 800, every other option default.

    Profit.

You can do a similar thing on PC. One method involves closing certain ports in your firewall when you want to be in a solo public lobby. The other involves something with Task Manager or something similar than I can't remember offhand, but it's pretty easy to find.

That's part of the reason that I do import/export in populated lobbies. When solo, the game spawns a bunch of crack shot npcs to harass you. It's hard to get the cars to the destination in pristine condition with them on your tail. You can get out of the car and kill them all, but that wastes too much time. The faster supercars can outrun the npcs, but you're in trouble if anything slows you down. It's imo better just to import/export in an open lobby. The overall higher payouts outweigh occasionally getting blown up by an oppressor.

The firewall method is what I prefer; you define an inbound and outbound rule, and once you get in the game you enable both and it looks like everyone leaves your lobby. The only downside to this method is that if you want to let your friends join you, you need to whitelist their IPs (by blacklisting all addresses before and after their actual IP address). Hit me up in a DM and I can share the Powershell code to create them.

A long time coming, the building for this was always supposed to have an interior since the original 2013 XB360/PS3 version:

I'm guessing that much like Poker in RDR2 it won't be available in every country (ones that have stricter RMT/gambling/microtransaction/lootbox laws etcetera).

The house always wins... At roulette and poker. Apparently it's the 'not good' version of poker, but I don't really know/understand anything about poker.
The horse racing is virtual, up on a big screen, so the actual horse racing track outside still isn't used.

    e9yainsxygcy.jpg
And of course the outside of the casino is constantly being rocked by explosions and the usual chaos caused by trolls. Don't even go near this place without passive mode on.
You'll probably have a hard time getting in otherwise...

You need at least $1.5 million (for the penthouse suite) to access any of the new heist-type content, it's about aiding the owners against a malicious take-over attempt by some Texan business rivals.

If you have your Rockstar Social account linked to your Twitch Prime account (which you have if you have Amazon Prime), you can get the base penthouse suite for free. Any extra rooms or decor options will still cost as usual (and as you'd expect you can drop a few million on those without too much difficulty).

The golf in particular is exactly what I want from a golf game. Not too grognard-y, nice and easily accessible, but a little more of a realistic bent than Hot Shots, and being part of GTA means it's got the closest sort of atmosphere to the immortal Outlaw Golf. I just wish it had more than 9 holes.

Some of the multi additions over the years have gone right off the deep end, it is far too grindy, and the economy is utterly crap with far too many extortionate prices for things. But there's still an absolute ton to like in it.

I went with Leviathan. Both because it's huge (obviously) and also a slightly more obscure Mass Effect reference than if I'd called it Normandy.

You can change it later, but it costs.

Also moving it to another location (there are 12 to choose from around the coast) costs $25,000 every time.
