I don't get the love for Vincent, as a character his story wasn't really special and he wasn't that great to have in a party. Of all of the tertiary characters that joined the crew on the way to the crater, I was most partial to Cid. Brash and a pretty interesting backstory.

    Barrett > Cloud > Tifa > Red XIII > Aeris > Cid > Vincent >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Cait Sith

And Yuffie doesn't even go in the damn ranking!

And just as I said that, Nomura just hinted that the story is going to deviate from the original:
When asked if the remake, in development for PlayStation 4, will follow the Final Fantasy VII narrative exactly or feature new elements, director Tetsuya Nomura gave GameSpot an ambiguous answer.

“We’ve announced an HD port version on the PlayStation 4, and then we have the remake coming to PS4,” Nomura said through a translator. “You’ll have this extremely, very, very pretty FFVII existing on the same plane. We feel that if that happens, it’s like, why have the same exact game?

“We think that if a game is on a certain platform and that platform becomes obsolete, then we’d recommend playing the new port version,” he added.

    He's absolutely right.

This is a good thing, assuming they offer a story that's at least equal (or better) than the original.

Actually, they don't have to do this, because in a stunning twist, Sephiroth kills Cloud and Lightning takes over as lead.

All I want is Tifa's cowgirl outfit to be an alternate costume.

Then she can dramatically take off/put on the hat during every battle like Monkey D. Luffy:

Good news. Trying to be too faithful to the original is how you get Twin Snakes when the goal should be REmake.

    Don't forget Kingdom Hearts.

I actually ended up liking her more in the spinoffs.

I hope they incorporate some of that back here.

But I hope they don't make her and Tifa catty. I liked them being BFFs.

Reasons why Vincent is the best:
    1) Awesome gun
    2) Red and black is the most superior color combo
    3) Turns into crazy monsters
    4) Most of his outfit's straps are actually functional
    5) Super cool metal claw glove
    6) He's totally Sephiroth's dad :P

The best moments with Aerith were the ones that suggested she wasn't the flawless angel her fanbase makes her out to be, and at times make a situation worse with her bluntness.

"Aerith, maybe you should give Barret some space."

"No way! The best thing for him is to go out and have fun!"

    (90's swearing)

    Another one:

"Cait Sith, can you predict if Cloud and I will end up together?"

"I dunno, dude. I mean, Tifa is right there..."

    "It's fine! I'm sure she won't mind!"

Really. There were a lot of parts to FF7 that always felt like they could have been expanded.

We'll see how it works out.

I'm not saying generic so much as...

Cloaked badass with a claw guantlet who can turn into a devil AND a Frankenstein.

Totally something a kid would come up with.

I see what you mean, it's still cool though.

Edit: Oh and I more meant you could do the "a kid would come up with it" thing for the entire cast. They're pretty basic anime tropes.
Talking dog, gun for a hand, nice healer girl in a pretty dress, cool guy with a giant sword...etc.

And it does potentially solve the Wall Market dilemma, as well as tying in the games that expanded on the lore.

Why does Tifa need to be pretend to be a prostitute, anyways? Why can't she pretend to be applying to be, I dunno, a bodyguard?

Also, a reminder that the last FF to use the ATB system wholesale was 9. At the beginning of the PS2 era. SO I'm pretty sure they aren't going back to that for combat. At least, I hope not.

Well, he did say that the series wouldn't lose all its wacky moments, and the dress sounds like it's in for sure.

I think they'll be careful, especially with the feedback they got from Cindy.

But I'm still concerned since I've already seen plenty of posts elsewhere demanding that Tifa not be altered ("keep the skirt, keep the boobs!"), so I hope they don't take those kinds of comments into feedback.

I like the fact the characters are easy to get, no matter when you start.

I got Wakka's 2nd Record Materia last night. Can't wait for the new dungeons to grab the rest.
