i am trying to get used to drinking coffee black. I feel very tired and non energetic. But I can't sweeten this coffee and Half and Half has too many carbs in it. So I just have to endure it if I want to get my sweet sweet caffeine fix.

    u mother...fucker.......*sips*

    bleeeegh

    Put butter in it.

it's not that great without the frother to really get it in there. Otherwise it just kinda of sits on top of the coffee like an oil spill.

My options at work are limited

How do people talk about money without feeling anxious, depressed, inadequate, and terrified?

Oh, you just have lots of money? Yeah I guess that would do it.

I just always feel anxious, depressed, inadequate, and terrified. Well the terror goes away after the first few months.

Like straight up, that's nearly ~$130,000 net pay ($100k in taxes for living in NYC).

Rent is maybe 3k a month, so for sake of math let's say $30,000 a year for rent.

Maybe another $1000 a month for incidentals like travel and food, utilities, etc ?

    $48,000.

You have nearly $90,000 a year extra to just piss away.

    As a single earner.

That's not "well off" that's "wealthy".

    why would you rent?

If you're really smart, you live like a pauper in NYC for 10-15 years. Get the cheapest rent, bank all your extra cash, invest it. Leave off home cooked meals, ride a bike to work.

Then, 10-15 years later, you retire and move to some state with a low CoL where you can drop $200,000 on a house and buy it outright and pay $1500 a year for the rest of your life in taxes.

Then your bills work out to something like $150 a month for taxes and $1000 for just general quality of life living. If you worked in NYC and banked $100,000 in wages a year in a savings account (not even invested it) you'd have 1.5 million (roughly).

It would take you 750 months at 2000 a month to go through that. Or, 62.5 years.

You'd earn something like $100,000 a year in interest at 7%

You could split that in half, and reinvest it right back in, and still live very comfortably.

Living in NYC without spending money on things is the fucking worst though

I'm still coming. I'm gonna visit his new place and meet his new lady. They're in Somerville, so not technically Boston, but not in a way that matters. It won't be the same thing, though, since he lives there now. Staying on your friend's couch isn't the same as sharing an apartment in a place where neither of you lives.

    What time of year

Also don't tell me you were thinking of going to Boston for a couple of weeks

Yeah, staying in one place for a while is what I like. And we both would've still had light work to do during the day, so it's not exactly 2 weeks where we had nothing else to do.

July would've been the time. We haven't made new plans, yet.

Portland Maine is lovely in July, go there

I will be there for a few days

I like staying in one place for a bit when I travel, but a couple weeks for a vacation in Boston would be mind numbingly boring to me

Ehhh in the strictest sense, but financial stuff gets wonky.

You could conjure up a situation where rent is less than interest+repairs+taxes or something like that, and so renting for another few years while you save actually costs less.
