Ok so I'm sorry about constantly asking for help here, but I really have 0 clue whats going on.

So my GFs PC keeps restarting itself. First I thought it was the Motherboard, got it RMAed, then the Hard Drive went bad. Ok fine, got it replaced and I figured THAT was the problem.

Nope. I can sit here and surf the net all I want (I've been working on it now for about 3 hours), but the second I try to install a game. Restart.

I originally got to disk 4 of WoW, then a restart, now I can't get past disk 2. Oblivion, Diablo 2 and Starcraft all just cause a restart. And after over 2 months of fiddling, sending parts in, and not playing any games, i'm at wits ends.

I've monitored the CPU heat last time before the HD went bad, and even now it sits at an cool 30 degrees C. According to what I can find online, this is fine.

I don't think the RAM is bad, beacause why would Windows and my anti-virus/Spyware/I-tunes ect.. work fine?

Here are the system specs:

Mainboard: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. K8V-X SE Rev 1.xx
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 3400+ (running at about 2.2 GHZ)
Vid card: Nvidia GeForce 6600
RAM: 512 Stick of no-brand (double Bank) DDR-SDRAM PC-3200 (200 MHz) - [DDR-400] (PC wizard says 2 rows 4 blank)
and a 256 Stick I had laying around of No-name brand (Single bank) DDR-SDRAM PC-3200 (200 MHz) - [DDR-400] (PC wizard says 1 rows 4 blanks)

Anything that stands out I should be concerned about? Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Trying new RAM certainly wouldn't hurt. Give Memtest a shot and see if it comes up with loads of errors.

Forgive my stupidity, but how exactly do I work that program if I have no floppies on hand? The instructions are very brief.

Also Oblivion just installed...but WoW, D2 and now I've tried Vampire the Masquerade-Bloodlines. and they still don't work.

If I can figure out how to run Memtest I'll try it, but is it possible that the CD/DvD combo drive is given up the ghost? I've never heard of them causing restarts though. But the DVD game worked fine...

So i've been testing. For some reason when installing games the CPU temp steadily climbs. I origionally thought this was the problem. But after 2 failed attempts to install WoW and a failed Dungeon Siege 2 install, I've noticed that they crapped out/restarted my PC at different CPU temps (the Wow at 34.5 the DS2 at 32) So I guess thats not the problem? Any ideas? Thanks.
