Bah. I've forgotten what my character even looks like because I'm stuck in a tin can of heavy iron armor. When do I get something better that will allow me to see my face again? I'm hoping level 30.
I got a steel cuirass and a decent (though hideously plain looking) helm shortly after the heavy iron armor. I'm level 31 and can see my face again
The problem is that if you run dungeons, you'll eventually get a pink-quality tin can that's aces for stats through 45.
So, is Bow Wizard something that is common to call bards because I saw it elsewhere on the Internets last night and it gave me a good giggle.
They're referring to the new BRD configuration, where they use Wanderer's Minuet to boost damage at the expense of being turned into an arrow flinging wizard analogue (the song adds "cast time" to their actions.)

You know you can turn off looking at your helmet, right? It's either in character settings or game settings. Given how horrendous the helmets generally look, especially early on, I'm surprised more people don't simply turn them off.
It doesn't work if you're wearing a head/chest combo piece, but it does for just head pieces. I haven't seen headgear on my guy for ~35 levels.
EDIT: Didn't realize you were, in fact, talking about the terrible head/chest plate combo wear. My bad. Yeah, that stuff is laughably bad. If you're in the FC, ask if anyone is willing to make level appropriate, non-ugly HQ gear. You'll have stats at least as good as you have now, and look a lot better.

Black Bard, as well.
BRD changes get all the hate, I am not happy about them either. It seems like they just deleted the thing I loved most about BRDs and left us with a new mechanic that leaves us no choice but to behave exactly as BLMs from now on
I'm mostly positive on the BRD changes. I haven't seen the lvl 60 skill though. Empyreal Arrow looks rad, and it's really nice to have an attack above 190 potency (especially paired with Barrage). Now if I could only remember to use it when it's available. Iron Jaw helps immensely with TP management on long fights with no breaks and damage from consistent DoT maintenance (again, assuming I can remember to use it when I need to. Old habit die hard).
Rain of Death is now actually viable to use ever, especially given that River of Blood procs affect its CD. With that and Iron Jaw I've been able to maintain both DoTs on groups of five/six mobs and hitting RoB on almost every GCD. Not sure if that's actually more damage than spamming Quick Nock, but it's way more fun.
My main gripe with it is that Wanderer's Minuet takes so long to cast. Pretty much any other modal ability/stance is instant cast on the GCD (excepting maybe the rogue poison's or monk fists? I could swear there was one that wasn't on GCD). And you're right, it makes it pretty much not worth it to stance dance. I've really only ever popped out of it in the middle of a battle if things went pear-shaped and I needed to kite while a tank was ressed or something. That and one particular dungeon boss with a lot of movement, where I just leave it off entirely.
It makes us feel a lot less dynamic. Sure we typically had a significantly lower damage ceiling than other DPS classes, but we could snap aggro/damage on a target pretty much anywhere in the arena instantly and our damage was not significantly affected by mechanics requiring movement. I think they just erred a little too far to one side in the adjustment and will hopefully be tweaked in an upcoming patch.

Oh yeah. That reminds me I need to rejoin the FC because I had done a hiatus for awhile.
I love armor that completely covers my face. To the extent that some of my favorite characters in media follow this sort of theme, including Iron Man (movie version) and Dr. Doom.

Completely unnecessary for that content though so it doesn't really matter at all.

Servers are fine.
Pretty likely that the vast majority of the people who wanted Heavensward were already in Early Access.
Plus there was maintenance last night and a Hotfix. Not exactly sure what the Hotfix did, but everything seems good to go.
A Capellan's favorite sheath for any blade is your back.
Having just hit 60 and sitting apparently about a quest out from the end of the main story, I can confirm that there's about 50ish hours of game to finish up the MSQ's. In an unrelated note, I apparently made an excellent choice in this Ikea chair.
Man, I worked so hard to be ready for the early access of HW so I could be on the same page as everyone but instead I'm behind the curve again. Lol Oh well, shit happens.

I was gonna find a different outfit to wear for these screenshots (at my current level, my best armor is a fancier subligar), but @Dubh insisted I keep my current one on for some reason...
Ugh, disappointing...still getting 2002 errors every time, haven't been able to log in since yesterday. I'm wondering if I'll be able to get in at all this week.

Already almost Lvl 42 and just arrived in Coerthas.
Think I'm going to reach cap a day or two before or after I buy Heavensward. Good timing.
DRK get. I wanted to play this class since 1.0 was announced, which is why I waited so long to take the plunge. Gonna Au Ra myself up, and kick some ass.

I really don't like the aoe change. they should at least do full damage to a regular sized 3 mob pull, otherwise what the hell is the point of them. gravity burns through mana like crazy yet the damage is a resounding 'meh'
Woo, hit 60 WHM and finished the 3.0 story. FFXIV continues to be the best MMO I've ever played. And that 3.0 story ranks up there as one of the better FF stories, in my opinion. So good!
Do we have any 50+ DRK's here? I was doing World of Darkness last night and a drk was the main tank. In the very first room he died trying to gather all the mobs, of course he blamed the healers (which i was one of them) and since the tank died alot of other people died as well... So after an almost wipe at the start of the dungeon the drk and some other random duded started to talk in party chat saying the healers wernt healing. Which might be true, 1 or 2 healers in the raid might not have been healing, but i didnt really care about what they were saying.
My main question is if the drks feel as tanky as the other tanks, because to me it seemed like that drk was taking a ton of damage, and he died a few times during the raid.
Cool, as long as i know what to expect then i will just have to do my best to keep them alive from now on.
I was in so many raids that felt like i was not even needed. But last night it just felt like we needed every heal we got could.
Speaking of which, just had my worst Darkhold run ever.
Level 50 WAR. Didn't use Tomahawk until I reminded him it existed (he would just run in, do a short combo, and then use Overpower). All three of us were pulling aggro in almost every fight. He never bothered turning the monsters away from the party, so everyone had to dodge cleaves in tight spaces. And to make matters worse, he didn't seem to even know the mechanics of the dungeon. I had to put waymarks on the purple areas.
Good heavens. Felt like that run took an eternity. Least I got two pieces of gear out of it for my MCH.
I've been running with a friend who is a DRK and he is constantly telling me how hilariously overpowered it is and so easy.
Then I run with idiots who can't hold aggro for shit and apparently they haven't been using the tank stance or any enmity generating abilities!
So yay for the dps turning into lvl 30 tanks because "lol big sword" and having zero idea what the fucks they are doing.
I mean, I don't expect them to run Satasha over and over to learn tanking, but even Brayflox can be brutal if you haven't even read the damn tooltips on your abilities.
I dunno, I guess it's just hilarious because you can easily tell who mained a tank or healer before the new jobs (since they at least understand basic aggro mechanics if nothing else), and who was one of "those" dps who managed to faceroll their way to 50 without even understanding how other classes play.
As long as people are willing to listen up I don't go off on them, though. We had an absolutely horrible DRK in one Longstop who was 500% better by the end. Trial by fire and all that. It's the ones that turn around and mouth off when you ask them to use their tank stance. I'm sure I'm a horrible person for it, but I just don't have the patience for that crap now.
Honestly, I don't think maining a tank before is necessary to doing well as a DRK.
Like, when I dabbled with tanking after maxing out WHM and DRG, I knew enough to not be a total idiot because I had paid attention to what the rest of the party was doing. I took note of what the really good tanks were doing (grabbing a mob with the ranged threat generator, using their aoe threat, starting the threat combo, etc.) and just tried to emulate that as close as I could.
I would wager that the people doing really poorly at their new roles just never bothered looking at how the other party members interacted with each encounter.
EDIT: And by the same token, seeing what terrible DPS did when I was a WHM showed me what not to do when I switched to DRG.
While using your ranged pull is generally not a bad idea, I found on WAR toward the higher end of ARR dungeons that just running in and slamming Overpower a couple times generally worked better, especially if your party is trigger happy on damage.
