In non-title news, the Dragon's Lair Trilogy is now on GOG, but it's $20 which seems expensive - but it's Dragon's Lair, Space Ace, and Dragon's Lair II, which are $10 each on Steam. So if you like all these games, it's definitely cheaper on GOG.
Knowing me, I'll end up buying it on GoG just because I am a sucker for the game. Not a bad price if since I bought the original DVD long ago for $19.99 or so.

I'd buy it if there's a way to just have them "play" without having to do all the movements. I love the animation but I no longer have the patience to deal with the game play.

If it is like the Steam or DVD release there is an option to do that. You just sit and enjoy the cartoon.
Edit: Ok, so I was weak and bought it. The game is actually all three in one which is quite odd, but guess not surprising. Yep, you can watch all the movies at once or each scene at a time. You just have to go into the Extras section and it is there.
Agreed. Please. I just want to talk about old PC games again.
Ah yes, that feeling when you read the second-to-last page of a thread, mistake it for the last page, and end up posting a comment that makes no sense in the context of the current conversation.
Related: entering a fast-moving thread, perhaps AFKing or tabbing out briefly, then posting a response that makes sense if immediately following the "last" post... only to reload and realize it's added another page or two since you refreshed.

I've gotten into the habit of trying to always quote who I'm responding to for just that reason.
I played the Gothic games for the first time earlier this year and really liked the first two. The first game has such an impressive open world design.

Well shit, this thread is usually dead, so in simpler times that was a thing you could do. I guess it took some controversy to bring it back to life.

I got into the series right after the second game came out. I don't even remember how I heard about it, but I think I was heavy into Morrowind at the time and I saw it compared a lot. They were definitely mind-blowing at that time, with buildings that weren't their own cells and NPCs with schedules, like the good old days. The voice acting is about as bad as it gets, but it's kind of become part of it's charm at this point. I even kind of like Gothic 3, though I think the first 2 were better.
I need to spend more time with the Risen games, having only really played the first.
I'm playing it on GOG so I'm going to talk about it here - Obduction is fantastic so far. You would think I would have played it much earlier, considering I kickstarted it. The world is really interesting and the puzzles are compelling and just complicated enough, and make total sense within the world.

I keep meaning to pick that up, thanks for the reminder!

I want to rebuy Brigador and Ruiner just to have them DRM free.
There's every chance they'll come to GOG connect but hey if you want to support the developers  Bloody excellent games, just wish their OSTs were a little cheaper on bandcamp

I'm a huge Myst fan, and I've played through Obduction twice so far. It has its flaws, but yes, it is a very good game. It can be kind of confusing at times. I would recommend scouring Hunrath for things to read and then reading them. A lot of the story and setting are found in those. You'll also be well served to learn the Villein number system. You can do that in the gas station with the worksheet and terminal there.
One thing I was kind of surprised about my last playthrough is it uses the Razer Chroma software, so whenever I'd warp to another area, my keyboard and mouse leds would mirror the on-screen transition effect. I thought it was pretty cool.
I'd do a better job of posting them but I'm on my phone
So looking at those, I saw King of Dragon Pass was included. I didn't even know there was a Steam version, so I went to look at it. It seems it's a port of the mobile version, which has new content, updated graphics, and an updated interface. I thought that was kind of strange since the GoG version is the original 1999 version and the dev said there were no plans to port the mobile version to PC (or that it couldn't be done). Then I checked the GoG page and saw it's now the updated version with the original as a bonus. I bought the GoG version when it first came out, and then later bought the Android version to have it as well, but I didn't really like playing on my tablet. So that's pretty cool!
GoG kicked off a Back to School sale yesterday, which will run to the 10th. During the sale they'll have one game start a flash deal every hour, which will last for about six hours.
Edit: Which I know is like pennies, but at least you can buy a soda with them. Oh wait, no... maybe a candy bar? No... crap... you can use a pay phone with the savings!

The Legend games are amazing, as I've said many times. If you like Infocom style text adventures but want some "modern" conveniences like a UI and scene graphics, the Spellcasting games and Eric the Unready are both great. Spellcasting gets you all 3 games in the series, which is a great value. It's kind of Harry Potter meets Revenge of the Nerds (there's actually a lot of similarities to Harry Potter and it came out in 1990) and are by Steve Meretzky, which if you're a fan on Infocom, you'll know who he is.
Eric the Unready is about a knight who kind of bumbles his way into saving the world. It's got that Legend sense of humor, as well.
Mission Critical is one of their final games, so it has the most polish and is a straight up first-person view point and click. It's got full voice-acting (which is pretty decent all the way around) and some not-horrible FMV. I found the story pretty well done, which starts out fairly straight-forward hard sci-fi, but gets pretty out there towards the end without going too nuts. It's one of my favorite Legend games.
Also, I didn't know Drakkhen had a PC version, which is on GoG. I played a lot of that game on the SNES, even though I had no idea what I was doing.
Edit: Which I know is like pennies, but at least you can buy a soda with them. Oh wait, no... maybe a candy bar? No... crap... you can use a pay phone with the savings!
Bets, uh ... I have some bad news for you ...
Yeah, I know there are little to no pay phones anymore. Just gave up on trying to find an example of what you could spend 60 cents on now. OH, are donuts that much???

Went ahead and picked up the Might and Magic games at ¾ off after watching some amusing reviews of that series by a youtuber.
I spent about $6.50 and got Might and Magic I-VII, and the 4 Battle Isle games (mostly for Incubation).
I'd been holding off of the M&M games because I still own them all on disc, but that was a pretty good deal. I've been a fan of them for a long time.
fair warning: Might and Magic 1 is pretty darn unplayable even if you love 80s retro RPGs. Might and Magic 2 is really harsh. Like even compared to games like Ultima 1-3 or the early Wizardry games.
3 and 4+5 (which combine into a single game) are surprisingly modern and have quite good UIs. Well worth playing those.

Really? My ranking, from more to less playable, would probably go Might & Magic 1-2 -> Wizardry 1-3, 5 -> Bard's Tale 1-2 -> Wizardry 4. I feel like the early game is generally less punishing, and I can't think of anything in the interface that's substantially worse. I guess the inventory screen is a little less scrutable.

I don't know that I've ever played 1 or 2, but I've played a decent amount of 3, 4, and 5, as well as a lot of 6 and 7. I got that Collector's Edition of 6 with the holographic disc when it came out that had all of the previous games as well. I still have it somewhere around here.

It's a great game, but ridiculously difficult. I remember the first time I played it in an arcade, I spent like $5 trying to pass the first level.
