I mean I'm excited, I have a PlayStation. The take-away here I guess is that he made his own independent development company, so it'll be another original series.
We are Homo Lundens (Those who play). From the moment we enter this world, we instinctively invent ways to have "fun", and share our inventions with those around us. We are not asked to do this, nor do we need reasons to create. It is simply who we are.
We find one another and compete with on another. We laugh together and cry together; all while playing together. Our experiences bind us and liberate us. To share our most valuable experiences, we create stories, invent tools, and evolve the art of play. Play has been our ally since the dawn of civillization.
"Playing" is not simply a pastime, it is the primordial basis of imagination and creation. Truth be told, Homo Lundens (Those who Play) are simultaneously Home Faber (Those who create).
Even if the earth were stripped of life and reduced to a barren wasteland, our imagination and desire to create would survive - beyond survival, it would provide hope that flowers may one day bloom again. Through the invention of play, our new evolution awaits.
KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS - We are Homo Lundens.
We are those who play.

Tons of Game Developer openings too. If I knew the language, I would apply in a heartbeat.
Well it is a smart move and good news for Kojima and Sony. With the right balance could be a marriage made in heaven and while he may be working on a new exclusive franchise with Sony it does not mean that Kojima will have options later to make other things multi-format once again. With the popularity for PT on playstation even still now at what was only a concept game that would be a great way to start off things.
I feel like the fact that they said "console exclusive" means whatever Kojima is doing is coming to PC.
Yeah Sony are actually pretty good about making that stuff clear compared to MS. See the nebulous messaging about Tomb Raider earlier in the year for how not to do it.
Sony has revealed more details about Hideo Kojima's first game at his new independent studio, confirming that the title is also scheduled to launch on PC following its release on PS4.
While Sony is "not disclosing details" on how long the game's PS4 exclusivity will last, it says that the game "is planned to become available on PC (after PS4)", and that it will be a "console exclusive", meaning it won't ever arrive on Xbox One.
The game won't be linked to Metal Gear Solid or the cancelled Silent Hills, either, Sony says, instead being "something completely new". The game will be published by Sony Computer Entertainment who will "provide support [to the game's development] as necessary".
I can't really blame the man for making a deal with Sony right out of the gate with his new stand alone company. I hope this first project is successful and sets Kojima Productions off to a good start.
Guys, I love Kickstarters and I love Kojima. Even though this is not a real possibility anymore, rest asured a Kojima Kickstarter would never have worked. I didn't mean to imply Kojima sucks or that he's bad at games, but theres's no way it would have ended well.
Kojima has traditionally been open to all platforms and Kojipro was traditionally a multi-platform developer for quite some time up until they died. Metal Gear games haven't been exclusive to a platform since MGS1 for the PSX.
MGS4 begs to differ on that specific point.
It's true that they tend to wind up on multiple platforms. Even Peace Walker is multiplatform (Sony platforms, nonethless). Since the series became MGS, though, they have overwhelmingly launched on Sony platforms and ports to other platforms often came a year or more after the initial release. The only exception to this is MGSV.
It isn't wrong to identify the MGS series strongly with Sony platforms.
Really, there seem to be some outliers (the MGS3 package on Xbox 360, Twin Snakes on Gamecube, and MGS5 most recently), but would Sony buying Kojima's soul be all that different than when he worked at Konami? I mean, in terms of platform exclusivity, not how he'd be treated, one has to imagine that would be an improvement. Those exceptions are outnumbered by PSP exclusives, I'm sure, we're not talking about the Super Nintendo here.
Sounds like it'd pretty much be the same to me. He wasn't going to do MGS6, right? I assumed his next IP was going to be a Sony exclusive because, you know, Kojima. Oh, and Silent Hills.
For all I know, that's the arrangement he'd be most comfortable for. A boatload of time to work on his new IP, less pressure to deliver on time, less pressure against other simultaneously released titles. The usual first party perks stuff. If I were Sony, I'd grab him. If I were Microsoft, I wouldn't, just because the guaranteed shitstorm of such an act would entail would not be worth whatever he produces next. But if I were Sony, I'd buy his soul in a snap. Seems like a grand opportunity, the only downside being it might be overly expensive for something they could probably negotiate for a lot less, so I guess it comes down to insurance.
EDIT: Am I imaging that all the portable MGS titles from Kojima Productions were Sony exclusives? I could have sworn they were. And I'm not counting Metal Gear Rising for very obvious reasons, it's Kojima-esque name and plot aside.
The MGS PC ports are rather forgettable. Except for MGS2, because that was so hilariously bad.
"Hey, hope you have an Nvidia card (from this list). Because our game doesn't support any ATi cards. Peace out."
I say this as someone who hasn't bought an ATi card since the X1900XT--that is seriously fucked up. I wonder if they ever got around to patching that.
Ehh, yes and no.
I played it without problems on a Radeon 9700Pro 128MB. They released an ATi patch which fixed many issues, and I only tried it after said patch was released, so I never knew how it ran on my machine without it.
Haha, sounds about right. A lot of PC ports were like that in the same time period.
Which doesn't change the fact that it sucked out loud.

I look forward to Kojima mercilessly defecating on another field of knowledge (MGS 1/genetics, MGS 5/linguistics)

Well, I was going to get a PS4 because of Street Fighter and FF7R anyway so its cool.
Can't say I'm surprised Kojima working with Sony, as they've been pretty tight for the past 2 decades. I still think Eternal Darkness 2 would be right up his alley, but maybe that can happen later. Interested to see what he's working on.
Here's hoping Konami aren't big enough dicks to sue Kojima for allegedly hammering out a deal while under contract. (Which Kojima almost certainly did, but hey, I can't blame him in the least.)

How would that work, a Nintendo game made by some Canadians and a sequel by Kojima?
Can't say I care one way or another, never been a fan of his stuff. I wonder how much cash Sony threw at him.

True (the negotiations before his contract was up). Conversely, the discovery of such a thing long before all of this became public could have actually contributed to their actions as far as stripping him of stuff and whatnot. Firing people doesn't really work like in popular entertainment (edit: especially if you're in any kind of leadership or central role.)
I wonder just how long he was planning on leaving and such. His contract would have expired and required renewal either way.
edit2: A guy in Kojima's position would likely have to put in notice months in advance of his exit, and it would be written into his employment contract.

Honestly, probably not some insane sum--at least to me, it strikes me as a logical place for him to go, especially since he is the Metal Gear Solid guy (not without reason) and that series did define multiple Playstation consoles more than anything else (even if they appeared on other platforms occasionally).

Nintendo owns the IP. They can hand it off to whoever they want.
Kojima looks like he finally pulled the plug on his age preserving implant
