That's not a beard, that's the result of forgetting to shave for a day.
That's me after a month. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As someone who has to shave for work, I envy you.
Funny part: I work from home three days a week.
It took me a year to grow a goatee.
As someone with sparse facial hair AND a ginger, I can completely understand this. I grow facial hair like a 15-year-old, and it disappears like a fucking ghost under most light, like it's ASHAMED of itself or something.
Without getting outright racist, let me say that growing a full beard in Japan is pretty rare, and I think Kojima is at the age where he can display it with pride. He's gonna look like a young Hayao Miyazaki when that's fully grown.

Very excited about the news. I'm hoping Sony/Kojima remembers the buzz around PT and a fleshed out version of that will find life.

I'm just hoping it doesn't take years upon years to come out.
The longest time between two releases of a brand-new Kojima-headed game is about 4 years, which is the gap between Policenauts and MGS1, or between Peace Walker and Ground Zeroes... which is super impressive, given that they rolled a brand new engine AND made a game on it that played well. Even if he is famous for grand games, he ships product at very solid rate.
In this case, though, his team is going to have to get all the work done of establishing a large new studio, which is probably going to tack a good amount of time onto whatever it is they plan on doing.
Doesn't Sony own the rights to the Siren games? Just let Kojima make a new Siren game, with all the ideas he was going to use in Silent Hills. Hell, it's fitting, cause Siren was created by a guy who worked on the original Silent Hill game and left to make his own horror game.
I really don't think Konami can own the name, considering it's his name.
Well, not unless they trademarked the name with that trademark being under Konami's domain.
Hopefully that's not the case. Otherwise it would open the door for Konami being petty enough to sue over the name. Which honestly a tiny sick part of me wants to happen, just to see the absurdity. But then they'd probably file the case in that one town in Texas that's super copyright friendly and win, and that would be terrible.

Konami re-branded Kojima Productions into some generic-sounding Konami sub-group a few months ago, so they don't have much ground to stand on wanting to keep the name.
It wouldn't be a matter of wanting to keep the name. Not at this point anyways.

So it sucks for me as a PC player that Kojima is with Sony now, but good for Kojima. The Playstation is a solid platform and Sony has been fairly shenanigan-free this console generation, so it's probably one of the best places he could've ended up.
Now I hope he gets to make something good enough to make the Konami execs look like the dipshits they are for deep-sixing all their worthwhile game development to go with shitty pachinko junk.
If Konami wanted to be super spiteful they could sell the I.Ps of metal gear and ZOE to Microsoft or another company if that's possible?
That would be crazy but then it's Konami.
Not going to happen, the only time companies dare sell their IPs is when they're going out of business. Konami will lock those IPs up in their vault with the 100s of other great un-used IPs they've got and maybe pull one or two of them out when they're looking for a new mobile game or pachinko machine.
The thread title should really be changed. Kojima isn't working for Sony. He just has a publishing deal with them for at the very least his first game (which is going to be PS4 + PC).

Sony's funding and publishing his game, so he is working for them, just technically as a contractor.

Using the name, no, but keeping it? Specifically, keeping it out of Kojima's hands? After all we've seen, I absolutely believe they would want to do that.
Like Mega Man Legends? Then check out my story, Legends of the Halcyon Era - An Adventure in the World of Mega Man Legends on TMMN and AO3!

Yes, so they're a third party developer whose current project is Sony exclusive as far as console release.

That's splitting hairs. The issue here is that Kojima didn't "join" Sony. Kojima's new company's first project is a Sony project, but beyond that they're an indie developer.

How is it splitting hairs? If Kojima's working on a first party game for Sony, then he's joined Sony as a second party developer. The last I checked, join != hire.
Oh and they're not indie if they're being funded by a multi-billion dollar company.

Not using a trademarked name can weaken its legitimacy.

I'm super looking forward to Kojima's next big works, but I'm super not looking forward to the majority of them being some sort of console exclusive to the PS4.
That said, he's had an open mind with multi-platform development so unless Sony outright buy his studio (which they are wont to do with most of their "first party" games) it could be worse
I'm hoping Kojima makes this game I heard about years ago. I'm a fan of writer F. Paul Wilson who wrote a series about a character called Repairman Jack. Kojima is a fan too. The whole series culminates in a battle between Evil and Indifferent in the novel Nightworld. Kojima at one point expressed interest in making a game post-Nightworld. Which always sounded suspiciously like a Silent Hill game. During Nightworld the sun stops rising, portals open up everywhere, strange Lovecraftian-type creatures climb/crawl/fly out of the portals and go on a rampage. The only thing is that I remember reading somewhere that if it did happen that they wanted the game to come out alongside a Repairman Jack movie, which seems like something that will never happen.

Are they owned by Sony or anyone else in any capacity? No? Then they're indie.

I'm hoping they remember how much I love Zone of the Enders and grant me a new take on that series.

Weird, I thought Konami owned that name?

Well what if they hire another guy named Kojima?
Buy the mug, own the t-shirt.
After what he has been through this year some people would view a midlife crisis event looking at a bearded Kojima.
I personally think he is ready to get down to serious business.

Also great because I'm pretty sure Sony has the guts to say no to him and won't let him have an actual Zoo.

I figured that was because it acknowledges him at all.
You'd be surprised who can own what. Ubisoft owns Tom Clancy's name, for instance.
