which raises the totally valid point that I was thinking upon rewatching ANH and ESB, that the prequels actually do damage to the originals and make a lot of things seem dumb or illogical
luckily I am pretty good at imagining they don't exist, and haven't rewatched any of them except via RLM reviews

Obviously Lando transferred weapons power to the engines and shields. He only needed the missiles which don't use the laser energy bank.
In the now defunct older star wars MMO, you totally could shift all the power in your weapon capacitor into your shields, which gave you no power for guns, but missiles were unaffected.
