Also if a Warboyz wants my huge but unfinished mountain pen feel free to take it, if it isn't used by next week I'll rip it down.
@karoz guess I'll go ahead and take it, since it doesn't look like anyone else was interested. Not quite free to sit down and play currently, sorta waiting on a call from a technician.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

Huh, guess it's too much to hope for home decorations.
Dude, when you go full nomad, we have to get together and write the nomad manifesto, and exchange notes on builds, etc.
Yes, with a quick verbal "boom." You take a man's peko, you deny him his dab, all that is left is to rise up and tear down the walls of Jericho with a ".....not!" -TexiKen
Well, I got this thing on sale, since I had fun last time. My character's name is still Ana. And I spawned near a small stone house that said "free stuff inside", on the south. I hope you guys won't be annoyed that I got myself a Compass blueprint and a pike there - at least with the Compass I have a hope of arriving anywhere, because I had a habit of getting SUPER lost.
I had to leave before finishing my hut completely, though - when I manage to get more Dodos to spawn to get more hides to make a bed to respawn I will begin exploring in earnest, but until I can get a base point I don't really feel confident about fighting anything.
Having a pike means you're better off than most starters at least
I'd advice to stay out of the swamp and snow for now, those places are extra dangerous
Yeah, but I'm really bad at fighting in this game. I kept geting murdered by dilos because I seriously don't get the hitboxes in this game. So one thing for the other :P

Have either of you watched "The Legend of Mick Dodge"? I keep thinking of that when I think about going nomad.
Small stashes in places, visiting friends cabins and villages for supplies, leaving notes using knots and markers at certain trees - it sounds more and more appealing.
Did they put in any kind of respec yet? Engrams I'm sure are probably still locked up, but can you rework stats yet without making and levelling up an entire new character?

I'm almost 400 hours in and I don't either. At least not for melee. I'm sure the small amounts of lag I get don't help, but mostly I just jab at the air vaguely around what i'm fighting and eventually it'll die.

There's a cooking recipe for a thing that resets everything, yes. Both stat points and engrams.

No I have not but that's the exact vibe I'm going for. Also I found having my apartment hanging off the side of the bronto is a bad idea so I'm rebuilding on the platform proper with wood then going for there.
As Aistan said there is a respec recipe though it requires 20 rare mushrooms and 20 rare flowers though the later has become much easier to get.

Hah. Fair enough.
Also, at some point I really need to learn how to tame shit, don't I.
Hell, I think we should test if mammoths get them when chopping swamp trees. That could solve the problem right there.
The point being that it's not too hard to reset everything now, whenever you want. It's a brave new build world out there.
I was thinking about that as I was looking around for a toad to tame. Considering mushrooms drop off swamp trees and flowers come from swamp vegetation taking a mammoth through there could be pretty lucrative.

Depending on your level, you either punch out dodos (and possibly dilos) until they are unconscious, or you use a slingshot and stones for the same purpose, or even a bow/crossbow with tranquilizer arrows. There are even some creatures that knock out other creatures (pachycephalosaurus, pulminoscorpius, and beezelufo, currently). Once they have been rendered unconscious, you feed them either their preferred food (berries, crops, meat, prime meat, etc), or if you have it, kibble created from eggs. Each creature likes different kibble (and some don't even have kibble), and kibble itself speeds the taming process along, making it overall less dangerous and with a more powerful end creature. In the interim of the creature eating, you can feed the creature narcotics remotely (Remote Use Item button in the creature's inventory) to keep them sedated while you feed them.
That excludes the Monkey, the Ape, and the Ichthyosaurus, all of which are tamed by "passive" means.

So can someone run down the pros and cons to the new biomes? This is the gist I'm picking up from the chatter.
Swamps
Teeming with life (that tries to kill you). Loads of meat and foodstuffs to be had (prime meat from snakes everywhere).
Flooded terrain can impede movement
Lots of rare flowers / mushrooms
Cementing paste from frogs eating bugs
Turret plant seeds
Arctic
The weather will kill you
Dire wolves (oh no and oh yes)
Abundant metal and oil outside your door
Penguins, and clubbing them for polymer (are these guys in yet?)
Does that sum it up? Am I missing something?
Also, I don't recall anyone answering my question if they ever fixed the "humans and dinos sporadically fall through floors" bug.
You can still fall through floors when offline. I dunno about dinos but I hope not since I'm building a multi-level barn right now.
That about sums up the biomes. Swamp life is... very active, but with a frog you can outrun pretty much anything. Snakes and crocs have a remarkably large aggro radius though.
There's no plan, there's no race to be run
The harder the rain, honey, the sweeter the sun.
If it's my 2nd floor stuff I'll just put them back with the elevator. The first floor could in theory fall out the bottom and I'd have to lead them back inside, which could get annoying if it happens a lot.

Swamp outpost has been renovated, thanks to the timely arrival of Karoz's doed giveaway. Hot damn does having dino overharvest magic make rock gathering less of a kick in the dick. Given how massive a fabricator is, it's going to have to wait until I care enough to add a second floor, but otherwise I'm set with the basic mortar/smelter/smithy bits.

I don't think I ever had a problem with things that made medium poo.
I also didn't have issues with my pteradon in the weeks leading up to my departure, so maybe they fixes it for dinos? I just remember my original dodo would sometimes be stuck on the floorboards.

I had a pachy (one of several) sink into a foundation when the patch hit, but I suspect that had more to do with the patch.

I have multiple layer everything and have had a total of one instance of a dimorphodon falling from it's high area right into foundation. That's it for dinos.
For myself, I've fallen through the ceilings a few times, but never a foundation.

I can try that if it becomes a problem, but I didn't design for the height difference so it might end up being odd.

My rexes routinely fall through my dock but still look like they are standing on it. My saber is the only smaller dino that has fallen through but it did it almost every single time I logged back in so I eventually just moved him onto the sand. Also almost every egg that is laid on my dock falls through it into the water below.
Did the server go down? I just went in to check in for a bit and make some basic supplies in this free hour I had and the server doesn't seem to be appearing for me.
EDIT: Ah, I didn't notice there was a patch today. Probably need to wait until the server updates. Man, patches roll fast and hard in this game, don't they.

Once again we have continued the Southern Caketown tradition of first tames of new aggressive creatures occurring because we found one stuck in a tree. So we have a wolf now!
Before following any advice, opinions, or thoughts I may have expressed in the above post, be warned: I found Keven Costners "Waterworld" to be a very entertaining film.
Oooh, a club? Is that a melee weapon for taming things?
I think it's for knocking out women on primitive servers and dragging them back to your cave
That's not funny.
