My first brawl this week consisted of a huge standoff of a board full of webspinners with me and my opponent just going for face. Then he shadowflamed my board.

I still won with the help of Gazrilla and King Krush!

Actually, instead of asking about legendaries, I guess I'm also looking for decklists - then I can use the dust to complete those, maybe.

    I'm looking for:

Shaman: deathrattle or something at least viable that isn't mech. Didn't @Variable play a lot of shaman semi-recently?
Druid: I think there was something called beast druid in the thread at some point? For even more offbeat, anybody got a good list for watcher druid (silence your own minions druid).
Hunter: anything not face, since I think I might actually have enough cards to build a real deck now.
Rogue: I think I want to try the oil thing for real, instead of dumping the combo parts in my dumb pirate deck.

Tempo = having momentum on the board, generally by constantly having the bigger threat on the board and the opponent playing catch-up

Having tempo doesn't mean a clear victory because it can be lost, or the enemy can be playing a burn deck (ice mage) or mill.

Tempo can be lost if the enemy uses a board clear and is able to drop their own threat (equality + pryo and then dropping piloted or cairne, etc.).

Tempo is not lost if the enemy uses a board clear and that's all they do (flame strike and hero power).

Are there any really obvious legendaries to craft after Sylvanas and Dr. Boom? I have Thalnos as well, plus a handful of others I don't think see much play.

    Ragnaros? A dragon?

I think warlocks are cool, but I'd like the option to play something other than zoo sometimes, so I was considering either the two giants I'm missing for handlock, or either legendary (Mal'Ganis is higher priority for demonlock, yes?)

Rag is the other general-purpose one, yes. Alex is also in a couple of decks. There's some very needed class legendaries. Tirion, grommash, antonidas mainly. Handlock works without jaraxxus. Demon lock is a niche deck but demon zoo runs mal ganis and not jaraxxus.

I got to gold shaman a couple of seasons ago and I play it here and there. midrange is what you want imo, although deathrattle is fun I prefer the more standard style.

this is a good one imo http://www.liquidhearth.com/staff/monk/PowerRank/June2015_3/Hawkeye_Shaman.png

especially if you don't have neptulon. I like the single feral spirit and single lightning storm as well as double hex + bgh.

The new Tavern Brawl is already hilarious.

First game, turn 4, I have 3 spiders, my opponent also has 3. I trade all of them and get: Angry Chicken, Hungry Crab, Captain's Parrot. (Naturally I played all 3 that turn).

Second game, two spellbenders and a counterspell completely wrecked him. I like those secrets because spells are really valuable in this format, I feel.

Actually, I remember liking Day9's Shadow Beast deck.

I was sad he didn't make it to legend last month. He was so close, but then he lost a bunch in a row and dropped back to Rank 2 and just called it a night. Oh well. :(

What's your definition of wacky fun? Patron Warrior used to be viewed that way until people realized it was legitimately powerful.

Something that's not really considered "part of the meta", which I think excludes Patron Warrior. Also, I hear it takes a tremendous amount of practice and/or skill to play well, so no thanks to that. >.>

I'm talking like Shamanigans or the above Velencombo.

I decided my demonlock deck needed Stalag, Feugen, and Baron Rivendare.

So it's kind of a death rattle deck and kind of demon deck. It's pretty fun trying to get weird combos where I try and kill my own creatures to get better creatures and board clears.

    This lucky penny is bullshit.

I used to run a Warlock deck that was super heavy aggro, with tons of charge minions and POs and whatnot, all doing 24 dmg combos on turn 5 and shit. This was pre-Leeroy and Soulfire nerf, though, so that particular list isn't viable anymore. Is this similar?

Rogue: This is what I'm going to play and it's about as boilerplate as Oil Rogues get. The only unusual card in that is Sabotage, which I think is for Patron/Control Warrior. A more standard list would run Loethb in that spot.

Nope. Face Warrior is just weapon->face.

Very good for quickly dispatching warrior dailies.

Edit: Well, sorta. It's weapons and charge minions going super-aggro, but there's no crazy burst combo, just lots of damage throughput.

Yeah, Face Warrior plays very similar to Face Hunter without the bonus of having a hero power that can close out games.

Mmm, yes. This is the Brawl where I get to draw two Counterspells while my opponent gets Innervate > Savannah Highmane and Power of the Wild.

How many Hungry Crabs can one man draw? Is it at least one in every game? Yes. Yes it is.

I had the hardest time winning a brawl today. Seemed like for every Captain's Parrot I got off a webspinner, my opponent got a Savannah Highmane off of theirs. I got a lot of Parrots.

shaman deck has bloodlust which is nice

although innervate might be the best? I don't know

hunter deck didn't seem to have any beast synergy and you rarely get to work in hero power

Play Warlock: face nothing but anti-aggro. Play Rogue: face nothing but aggro.

Yeah, Face Warrior plays very similar to Face Hunter without the bonus of having a hero power that can close out games.

The funny thing is Face Hunter is one of Face Warrior's best matchups because Face Warrior is a lot faster. Burns out quicker, though, which means it's more prey to losing to a deck that stabilizes at low health, because you don't have the inevitability of Hunter's hero power. Mortal Strike helps deal with that, though.

I've been playing this game for a year and I feel like I barely know what tempo means.

Try playing Magic on and off since 1996 and still struggling to explain it. It's the hardest strategic concept to explain even though it intersects with so many approaches to the game even if only a few actually label themselves as "tempo."

As a coincidence (or not really since its kind of the hot deck of the week), Trump is doing a series of videos where he's learning to play Oil Rogue from MrYagut. The first video (episode 0) is just Trump failing at Oil Rogue, MrYagut starts partway through episode one. Playlist is here:

I started with oil rogue right away since I'm back at R18 so I don't really care about standing. Played a few games, here are my results so far.

2 tempo mages, 1-1. Lost only because I miscounted lethal. Was ahead the whole game and then botched it at the end. Should have won that one.

1 warrior, 0-1. Just couldn't really do anything, he had too much armor by the time I was ready to burst, and he controlled my board well.

2 hunters, 1-1. When I won, I got there faster. Pretty simple.

    1 priest, 1-0. Poor priest.

I've found the best strategy, if you can possibly help it, is to completely ignore his webspinners and hope he kills yours.

Though it also helps if your deck contains Unstable Portal and it somehow summons that Shaman legendary with every ability at once.
