Give me this. There's no way my name is being drawn from the hat, so just let me buy in.
Thanks to lots of SW'ing I have all the mordrem parts I need. Still need more of the Carapace pieces, but I'm a little confused on how to get the ascended things for the collection. Do I just need to play Living Story part 2 to get them?
For most of them, yes.
You get four of them for doing all the achievements from parts 5,6,7 & 8 of Season 2.
The other two have to be bought from the Silverwastes vendors for 1000 bandit crests each.

Yes. All. The only consolation is that they can be done with a party/friends.
I've been holding off on finishing the Lumi armor.. just have a couple of story achievements left. Maybe i'll give em a go this week if anyone is available, its been long enough that I likely wont rage if I have to attempt them a few times
pay to beta. A beta is to eliminate bugs. Not source revenue.
still preordering.
While we're being pedantic, a beta test is to eliminate bugs. A beta event can be whatever they want it to be - in this case, a means of demonstrating the game to its users prior to the final release build. And if folks just happen to report bugs to eliminate, then that's cool too.
Using early access as a means of revenue has been an industry standard since the early 90s. All that's changed since then are the goalposts.

Also dude, you got beta access for pre-ordering the base game well. That's how I got into the GW2 Beta. And they DID use it to bug test: does no one else recall the Fire Shaman chewing through LITERALLY EVERYONE in Plains of Ashford, or the piles of corpses on the bridge to Fire Elemental?
It was worse in beta, iirc. I think there was a kill script there, or at least some sort of broken area of effect whose hit box was larger than it needed to be.
It got fixed, then in live the bridge of death only happened after a wipe.

It was absolutely worse in beta. I'm not sure if it was an instagibb attack or just an asston of damage to players who hadn't yet quite figured out how to dodge, but in any case the beta Fire Ele was bloody legend.
But yeah after that then people were just dumb and dying because... we were stupid, and no good at bosses XD

Speaking of pedanthood, I'm almost certain that text string was not included as a result of due to data mining efforts, but I can thank the data miners for finding it as much as the next person.
Also, it is my hope to start playing through the Living Story season 2 this weekend. It is a holiday after all.

Blah, knew I forgot something. Just added my entry, thanks Sage
The servers are still a bit wonky since the patch. Managed to complete the Ulgoth Modniir centaur event and was messing around after when I got booted. The same thing happened earlier at another event and I lost everything so I figured I was out of luck again. But no! Logged back in and no rollback this time! Yay for not losing my stuff! And Modniir is back on his cliff yelling at the clouds again so I head down to do the pre-events. Most everyone else left. Me and one other person(an Asuran necro) duoed the events in the camps. We made slow and steady progress across the field of battle and as we get towards the end we pick up another person for the last centaur champ. Then we head inside. Is it fake Modniir? No! Here come the champ dogs! So we killed those too. They weren't too bad honestly but it was a little slow going.
And then all hell broke loose when he spawned the earth elemental hands. I never realized they threw rocks and spawned earth elementals. Things you notice when there's no zerg there to obliterate everything the second it spawns. Things were not going well with just the few of us so I sent out a call to the map asking for more help. In the meantime we were getting our arses handed to us by all the elementals and the stuff flying around but we did manage to kill one hand. I think one or two more people showed up. I decided to ignore the elementals and went after the other hand. Someone had hurt it pretty badly while I'd been occupied with failing to stay alive. Finally got that down and here comes Modniir. I begin to charge and.......I'm booted off the map. Noooooooooo!
After the loading screen finished we're back in the Hinterlands but in a different map instance. Not sure what happened there. We would have had him though! Victory denied. But much fun was had and I did come away with a nice pile of loot and exp so I'm not too broken up about it.

So the big thing they're talking about for Ready Up instead of Epic Specializations are WvW changes
Two biggest ones is that point upgrades are going to be completely separated from supply (meaning you no longer have to worry about slowing down the upgrade process picking up supply from someplace not fully upgraded) and Applied Strength/Fortitude are going away.
Hello, my name is Tyler Bearce, and I’m here to talk about a significant change we’re making to the way that you’ll upgrade your World vs. World objectives in the Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns™ expansion. This is the system that allows teams to fortify their keeps and towers with things like stronger walls and additional guards. Afterward, I’ll explain our rework to the World vs. World ability system.
These are the changes we’ve made to the WvW upgrade system:
We’ve removed the supply cost for upgrades.
Supply holds and supply shipments will be smaller.
We’ve removed the gold cost for upgrades.
Individual upgrades are now grouped into upgrade tiers.
Upgrading to the next tier now happens automatically over time.
There are two tiers for camps and three tiers for all other objectives.
Higher tiers take longer to upgrade than lower tiers.
Each shipment from a dolyak caravan will reduce the remaining time by a set amount.
The time it takes to fully upgrade an objective should still be roughly the same as it was before these changes.
As an example scenario, let’s say the red team captures a tower. A timer on the “Defend the tower” event immediately begins. Each time an allied dolyak caravan arrives at the tower, the timer will decrease by five minutes. The Tier 1 upgrades will automatically occur sometime between 20 and 40 minutes as long as the red team can maintain control of the tower. The time depends on how many caravans safely make it to the objective. When Tier 1 completes, the tower immediately gains stone walls, an oil pot, a merchant, and a supply-hold increase. This process repeats until all the tiers are obtained and the objective is fully upgraded.
Along with this change will come an improvement to sentries. Sentries will greatly slow down enemy dolyak caravans and thus slow down objective upgrades. This will make the payoff for controlling the route between supply camps and objectives and ensuring a successful caravan more important, further enhancing the strategic objectives in WvW.
We made these changes to streamline and improve the existing system by making it cleaner, easier to understand, and more fair for players. Players no longer have to worry about taking supply from an objective while another player is waiting to have enough supply to upgrade it. Players also won’t have to worry about making an upgrade decision that other players may not like or feel like they’re the only person spending gold to upgrade objectives. This frees up players so they can focus on holding the objective until it’s upgraded and make sure the supply caravans arrive so the objective can upgrade faster.
Now that you know the future of keep upgrades, let’s take a look at some changes that will affect how you upgrade your character in WvW. We made these changes with a couple of major goals in mind. First, we wanted to reduce the costs of ability lines to make them feel more attainable, even to the majority of WvW players with a world ranking under 300. Second, we wanted to rebalance specific ability lines that felt either too weak or too mandatory. Due to granting the powerful Applied Fortitude and Applied Strength effects, the Defense Against Guards and Guard Killer lines needed to be extremely expensive, but that meant players often felt obligated to spend their first 230 points on these lines before they could begin branching out into other ability lines. Also, those two lines—along with the Siege Might, Siege Bunker, and Mercenary’s Bane lines that simply granted single percentage increases per ability rank—felt very weak. This drove our decision to shorten the Guard Killer and Defense Against Guards lines to five, removing Applied Strength and Applied Fortitude.
These are the changes we’ve made to the WvW ability system:
We reduced the total number of ability ranks of Guard Killer and Defense Against Guards from 10 to 5.
The Applied Fortitude and Applied Strength effects have been removed.
Ability lines that increased percentages from 1% to 5% now increase percentages from 2% to 10%.
We reduced the total cost of specific siege weapon lines from 75 points to 60 points.
We reduced the total cost of the Supply Capacity line from 300 points to 145 points.
The Supply Master and Mercenary’s Bane lines remain at 15 points.
We normalized all ability progression tracks of five ranks per line to 35 points.
We normalized all ability progression tracks of four ranks per line to 15 points.
In addition, we’ll be tracking world experience progress on the experience bar once your character hits level 80 rather than on the hidden blue WXP bar at the top as it does currently.
That’s all for now. See you on the battlefield!
Also, apparently starting this week, Ready Up is going to show off some of the epic specialization builds people have theorycrafted, starting with Dragonhunter.
"Applied Fortitude" and "Applied Strength " were removed from the "defense against guards" and "Guard killer" trees. These effects will be available for all players in the future as baseline effects for those who have reached a world ranking of 100 or 200."
I'm starting to come around to the fact that Sylvari really are the master race. Not humans.
They just look fucking awesome and I'm sorry I didn't see it earlier.
P.S. I need to buy a total make over kit because some of the new hair styles are awesome.

My first and main is my ranger sylvari. However he is my only one. I don't like the way he looks in any armor but the twilight armor set and thematically I'm stuck at most with the cultural armor for him. It's limiting but I deal.
Those WvW changes are pretty good IMO. They're not huge changes, but at least they didn't make anything worse.
I'd still like to see the objectives (say at least towers & keeps) start at a zero point value per tick for scoring, which slowly increases with time to their max value to encourage more holding. Maybe timed to be in sync with these new upgrade tier timings.

there is only one proper response to this.

5 per thing. So 10 votes total.
First time I talked to his daughter, it was with my Sylvari Warrior, and it kinda diminished my sympathy for her.

A ringing endorsement.
They sound good to me. Keep the dolyaks important, but now idiots can't troll you by removing supply from the tower, right?
