I wonder if this means that jungle Hero Points will be worth less though :V back down to 1 instead of 10. Even if they are, though, I think it'd still be faster than 400 points...

I'm pretty happy with that change. I want to switch over to Dragohunter and Herald ASAP.

So, kind of a weird question, but trying to get back into GW2, and I'm having a hard time keeping track of skills and buttons and all that. Is there a class/weapon/build that is on the light side of things to push?
Warrior = ultimate faceroll
Ranger = bearbow to victory
Guardian = just hit all your buttons and you'll be fine
For the love of all that is holy, do not use a bear. Drakes are as good or better in just about every stat. The new pets aren't bad either, though they did just nerf a really good one we had at the start of the expansion. The new elite spec is night as hell too.
I wonder what this reiteration of the elite specs means for people who are still unlocking stuff. Like, it currently costs 60 points to unlock the spec, then another 15 for the first minor trait. When this change takes place, does this mean I'll actually be further along on the track, or am I still going to be sitting at trying to unlock that first minor trait, it'll just cost less? (Does that make sense?)

Most likely, you'll be at the same "place", but they'll just refund you the difference. That's the easiest way to do it, in my mind.
So, I have a friend who is having major crashing problems with GW2 ever since HoT. Here is the list of things she's tried:
* Running a -repair on the shortcut (multiple times)
* Deleting the gw2.dat file (the big one, whatever that is) and transferring one from her husband's computer.
* Deleted the local.dat file in the appdata directory.
* Updated all drivers for her 6850HD Radeon card.
* Ran a benchmark on the CPU and GPU temps. Nothing out of the ordinary.
* Set everything to the lowest of the low settings in both video and audio.
The weird part is that her solo play is unaffected. She mostly crashes when she's adventuring with us in a group or chatting on Ventrilo.

Maybe an audio driver issue?

"Orkses never lose a battle. If we win we win, if we die we die fightin so it don't count. If we runs for it we don't die neither, cos we can come back for annuver go, see!".
GW2 has been crashing a lot for me, as well, usually in boss areas (sometimes before a fight even starts), most likely from an audio-based crash.
However, I've also had the game just close, completely and instantly, without a crash popup, on two occasions since HoT dropped. Just, out of the blue, gone. I think it happened when the Mad King showed up, both times...
Welp, I just found out that my new ISP has traffic routing issues for GW2 during UK prime time that render the game completely unplayable. Given how I work full-time, I guess it's going to be morning-afternoon UK time during weekends only for the forseeable, so I'm probably not going to be seeing any of you online for a while

There have been some rumblings on the forums about people getting Out of memory crashes more often than they did before (or for the first time). Those usually happen during group play or if you're running a lot of stuff in the background. If her OS is 64bit (or she's running a 32bit OS but less than 4G) she might try borrowing some Ram sticks from the husband's computer and see if that helps. Might also check to see that there are no problems with her ram either.

There have been a couple times when I was on during the daily reset where I crashed. Also happened once at the end of Mad King Says when he ports you to the Mystic Forge. Obviously they haven't gotten all of the bugs out off it yet.

Anything in the event logged that can be correlated with the crashes?
Is there a greater chance of getting a precursor from throwing in only weapons versus only armor or a combination?
The mystic forge, right? If you throw a mix of weapons and armors in the MF-even if it's just one piece of armor- then the piece that comes out could be anything, but if you put in just 4 weapons, you always get a weapon. If you do 4 daggers, then you always get a dagger every single time.
Oh my god chronomancer. I can shatter my phantasms and still have them. I can summon two phantasms, shatter them, and end up with two phantasms and a clone. Mesmer bursts are gonna be even bigger now.
And that's not even taking the new F5 shatter into account. Trying to do that frankly kind of makes my head hurt. But this thing is nuts. I need to figure out a good max cheese rotation ASAP.
Servers only matter for WvW now, since the entire (continent's) playerbase is assigned maps via the megaserver system. If you are worried about WvW, with the new maps being big you'll want to be on a big server; the current predicted top two for EU are Vizunah Square and Kodash, which are tagged as French and German respectively. After them are three servers just tagged as "Euro", meaning there are probably (as I understand it) mostly English speakers there: Desolation, Far Shiverpeaks, and Seafarer's Rest.
But you should know that WvW is a little wonky right now and the EU rankings might change in the coming months.
Also, high cheese rotation achieved. I don't know if this is MAX cheese, but there's definitely a strong whiff of camembert wafting off it:
I did this with greatsword and sword/sword, but it would probably also work with greatsword and sword/pistol.
Start in greatsword with mirror blade. They almost never dodge it. As soon as it hits, you'll be in combat, so dodge roll for a clone and hit F5 shatter. Then, hit decoy (this is not required, but it's an instant cast and you'll get it back in a second anyway, so why not) then greatsword phantasm, then weapon swap, then sword phantasm (you'll have time, I've checked). Then your F5 shatter will revert you to where you were. Cast sword phantasm again.
Back in the day when I played phantasm mesmer (when that was still a thing), having three phantasms up meant that you'd basically won the fight. Now, with chronomancer, you can have three phantasms up, AND shatter them, AND get them back, and not only that but their cooldowns will reset, so they'll each hit again ahead of schedule. This is an absolutely stupid amount of damage, and better yet, it's long damage - meaning it takes 4-5 seconds for all of it to arrive. No way they dodge out of all of it.
I tried this on golems in the lobby and couldn't even complete the rotation before they died. I tried it in unranked matches and it was basically a guaranteed win in a 1v1. Chronomancer is the future. Embrace it you heathens.
Update: GM Shiro from ANet confirmed for me in response to a support ticket that I can use a VPN to bypass my ISP's issues! Can anyone recommend a good VPN service? Don't mind paying, probably cheaper than trying to switch ISPs at this point...
Wow, nice job Sharkster. I only tried that twice but I very specifically thought "I have no idea how I'm going to get beyond silver".
Having not played my Eng in a while, I noticed there is no an F5 skill that corresponds to elite skills. Is there a reason that half of them don't have one?
EDIT - I just realized that perhaps the ones that don't have one are race elite skills and not engineer elite skills.

Exactly. But throw 4 greatswords in there and I think you have something like a 0.8% chance for a greatsword precursor.

Nice!
I really hope they don't nerf the adventures. I was so disappointed to see them nerf the hero challenge mobs from champions to veterans. I wish I'd been able to check them out before that.

I would be okay with, like, the Mushroom King and the Arrowhead saurian in Auric Basin still being champs, because they were really close to waypoints and people could walk to them.
But there were some that were sooo far away from anything else it was kinda ridiculous for the mob to be a champ. Like one Verdant Brink Challenge that requires updraft to reach and is only accessible at night after that area's canopy boss is killed.
Thanks for running the Hero Points last night (I think @CorriganX was leading the charge). I came in late so missed the VB points (except for the 2 or 3 I already had) but now I only have to train 4 or 5 more times to be 100% Herald.
Also managed to complete all 3 of the first tier masteries for Gliding, Itzal and Exalted plus half-way to updrafts. A very good night!

Got it last night - thanks! Had a Ranger messed w/ waaaaay back when, but decided to start a Mesmer - absolutely love it so far!
I didn't find Mad King's Labyrinth to be amazingly fast experience when I ran it last night, maybe I need to be in a full group to get the benefit? I did notice I wasn't getting xp credit for everything.
Also, I don't have an insane exp booster or anything, maybe that was it. I did run EOTM for a little bit last night, and my PvP daily chest gave me a free level, so that was nice. I did end up gaining about 10 levels last night, but it's definitely not at the rate of "Hitting 80 in a few hours" that I'm seeing some people on reddit reporting.
Did they make any new uses for karma? I have a million of it, and I don't particularly feel like trying to use them mystic-forging karma gloves or gambling on orrian box thingies.

I'm happy to help out where I can, I know they nerfed a lot of the hero points but some are still really tough, so it can help to bring a larger force to bear against them. I'll be doing more in verdant brink next time, now that I know quicker ways to most of them.
