So what's a good way to get Tyria masteries? I tried doing personal story stops and they don't give much xp.

    I hear CoF is civilization

Oh my god chronomancer. I can shatter my phantasms and still have them. I can summon two phantasms, shatter them, and end up with two phantasms and a clone. Mesmer bursts are gonna be even bigger now.

And that's not even taking the new F5 shatter into account. Trying to do that frankly kind of makes my head hurt. But this thing is nuts. I need to figure out a good max cheese rotation ASAP.

I'm still trying to vaguely understand how the class works after not playing for a year, but in PvE the chronomancer rotation is insane. Summon 3 illusions, hit F5, cast Time Warp then as many wells as possible plus the Shield skill 5 - then do it all again when your shatter time ability fades. You give your entire group 25 seconds of quickness and alaricity, and your own skills come up so fast your hitting buttons constantly.

It's mad fun but really complex compard to what we used to have to do in PvE!

I'm honestly disappointed people are abusing CoF to power through the Masteries. These are the same people who will be whining that there isn't anything to do or work towards in a month or two.

Personally I've got plenty to do still, and it'll all contribute towards that bar.

So I've been lurking for a bit now, and I have a question. Does NICE have any sort of rep requirements?

I've got a small group of friends who plays the game. One of them isn't interested in raids and wants to stick to the small group stuff, which I have no issue with, but another friend and I are interested in raids, guild activities that a small guild like like ours can't do very easily, and having a group of people I know to do dungeons/fractals with is always better than pugs in my experience.

Sadly I wouldn't be able to wvw with you folks since I'm on tarnished coast, but ohh well.

Basically, is it alright to swap in and out of representing NICE? I didn't see anything in the OP, but I want to be sure.

Thanks for running the Hero Points last night (I think @CorriganX was leading the charge). I came in late so missed the VB points (except for the 2 or 3 I already had) but now I only have to train 4 or 5 more times to be 100% Herald.

Also managed to complete all 3 of the first tier masteries for Gliding, Itzal and Exalted plus half-way to updrafts. A very good night!

I wanted to echo this. Thanks for leading that team last night!

I'm happy to help out where I can, I know they nerfed a lot of the hero points but some are still really tough, so it can help to bring a larger force to bear against them. I'll be doing more in verdant brink next time, now that I know quicker ways to most of them.

Did they make any new uses for karma? I have a million of it, and I don't particularly feel like trying to use them mystic-forging karma gloves or gambling on orrian box thingies.

There are new vendors you can unlock by raising your pact commander mastery, not sure what they sell though.

Thanks, a lot of this stuff hasn't been wikified yet, and I didn't keep up with all the HoT news.

So I was in Mad King's Labyrinth, tried to exit via battleground. It forced me to download an update, and now I can't log into the system at all - I keep getting network error code 1083:5:7:1595:101 on each of my characters, assuming the loading screen doesn't just hang indefinitely. I've rebooted, restarted my router, and nothing seems to help. Any thoughts?

Here's a question that I honestly don't know the answer to: What encounters/game modes drop boxes that give you Ascended gear? I don't see my friends/GF building up the crafting materials and skills to make Ascended gear any time soon (other than the jewelry, of course, which is easy to get via Laurels and such). They asked me, and I was like "Uh... I'm crafting mine?"

Fractals, wvw rank chests, exotic champ bags, teq and triple trouble. Those are the ones I remember off the top of my head.

The amberite achievement gives you an ascended armor box as well I think.

So I haven't played in a long... long time. Since pretty much a few months after release, really. I remember pumping points into talent trees to get bonuses and enjoying increased boon/condition duration from it. As a Warrior with Sword/Horn and Longbow as my weapons, I liked that stuff.

I don't seem to have that anymore. It's just talents, now? Did those duration bonuses get shuffled somewhere else, or did they go the way of the dodo?

The bonuses got pretty much added to your char directly, more or less (IIRC).

Is anyone else still having trouble logging into the game? I get to the char select screen, pick a char, shows loading screen for the zone I'm in, then it crashes. Says something about my network connection (and yet all my other games and stuff still work).

So I came back Friday with the expansion after not playing for a good while, have made some good progress working my way up from 56 so I can actually get to expansion content. Went from 56-71 over the weekend with a nice boost of 4 tomes of knowledge from yesterday's login.

What was funny was, I started making my way down to Megadestroyer because it's one my my dailies and I've never been to that area. Nor had I ever been to the two other zones I had to cut through to get there. I had two realizations at this point: I've never even been in a zone higher than 45-55 (and even that's just Bloodtide Coast that I had to go to for personal story), and I haven't set foot in like 60% of the world even though I've been playing off and on since 2013. I've got some work to do.

Anyway, as I'm approaching 80, what should I be doing to structure my time? What are good, reasonable goals to set for a fresh 80?
All the way up to 80? Just focus on leveling to 80. Halloween Labyrinth going on right now is a great place to level up (pop a Birthday/Celebration Booster, an XP Booster, some food, etc. and run around doing Door events in there, killing everything in your path. Avoid the Lich in the lower right corner), but you can also run dungeons (reduced gold reward, but XP is still pretty good) or do Edge of the Mists (the mini WvW map). Gearing isn't as important since you get free exotics just for leveling at various breakpoints. You also get a ton of free gear doing your personal story, and I'd highly suggest doing it as it comes up, as it gives good XP and is generally entertaining.

To prep for HoT content and your elite spec, I highly suggest you explore the zones and at least grab all the Hero Points within. If you ONLY go for Hero Points, you can probably scour each map and do the whole thing in 3 hours, but hate yourself afterwards. :D If it were me, I'd do heart events, find interesting waypoints/POIs, and just enjoy myself while exploring, unless that's not your "thing".

Once you hit 80, you will want to gear up in all level 80 rares, then all level 80 exotics, then all ascended. All rares is pretty easy, given the plethora of Rare drops off of bosses and Silverwastes and such. You can purchase rares easily through TP, too, often for less than 3G for a full set of everything.

All exotics is a bit harder, but that just involves cash flow. Often, it is way easier to sell raw materials earned from normal play and just buy the exotics from the trading post than it is to craft an exotic or find an exotic drop (unless we are talking precursors for legendaries).* Silverwastes is really good for this (earning raw materials). Salvage all the White/Green/Blues, sell all the mats on the TP.

For Ascended, you can start getting Ascended Jewelry right away via Laurels. The WvW merchant has slightly cheaper Jewelry (because you pay part of the cost in Badges of Honor), but otherwise you should pick up your first Ascended Amulet from a Laurel merchant. Rings can be gained from either Fractal dungeon running or Laurels. Accessories are best gained from Guild Missions.

For Ascended Armor/Weapons, you need 500 crafting skills in your weapon and armor skill of choice. There are some 1-400 and 400-500 crafting guides out there that you can follow to get that high. Ascended Armor is a HUGE gold sink currently, with Light Armor hovering at around 500 G crafted and Medium/Heavy at around 370-400 G for a full set.

    * For a case in point, you can sell a single Berserker Insignia or Berserker Inscription (may be profitable, may not be at the moment, check gw2spidy.com for details) and get multiple Exotics off the TP for just that single crafting component of an item! Not even a full item!

EDIT: Other things to do... BAGS! You need inventory space badly! I would do the Jar collection achievement, which gives you a free 20 slot bag, and the Silverwastes Bandit Weapon achievement (unlocked by a vendor item for Bandit Badges in the Silverwastes), which gives you another 20 slot bag.
    Jar: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Uncanny_Canner
    Bandit: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bandit_Weapons_Specialist

The Bandit weapons can be bought cheaply by taking a low level alt into WvW and purchasing them from the Karma vendor there (all Karma weapons in WvW are Bandit Skinned! Except the underwater ones). Buy the Underwater ones from the TP. There are two Jars that are "rare" drops, but are easily purchased on the TP, as well.

Just hit 80 last night, so going to start jumping into this stuff. Will probably start with the bags. I have a whole lot of game to play, apparently, having just hit 80 and only at 31% map completion. In any play session I'm now torn between finishing my personal story (I stopped in the early 60s), map completion, checking out the new content, or just continuing to farm the labyrinth while I can (I'm just a few hundred candy corn short of the 20 slot bag).

Now that I'm 80, I'm assuming I should be trying to accumulate ecto. Should I be doing every world boss once a day if I can? Just the ones I'm close to? Are there particular ones worth doing?

Should I go to Maguuma asap to unlock masteries? Does it matter?

For elite spec, is it worth farming hero points in Tyria content or should I be doing that in HoT content?

What is the best way for me to spend the Laurels, Mystic Coins, and Spirit Shards I've accumulated right off the bat?

Sorry for all the questions, there's just so much stuff.

My favorite thing about the expansion so far is that they added enough new skins that I get something new to unlock at least once or twice a play session right now. Previously I'd played so much that it took a focused effort to unlock specific skins, so it's nice to get random loot with new skins once more.

So it looks like the "fix" for elite spec costs is in. I got my hero points refunded so I had to buy the spec's stuff again, (but I already had the weapon from unlocking it the first time- that doesn't repeat) and I got about 4 unlocks in before I ran out of points.

Daytime is pretty easy now, just need a couple of people with tags to remind people that there are other chains than Itzel and Faren, even if they don't end with Wyverns.

Nightime is a bit different. I feel like most people leave the map when night starts after the bad rep it earned in BWE and some of the more casual/Tyrian focused players are still gated behind the masteries needed to do some of the canopy bosses.

I started grinding to 80 on my revenant, only to come to the realization that I will probably AT LEAST want all of the waypoints on the map for easy teleporting around.

I've gained like 10 levels just going to waypoints and doing almost nothing else. At this rate, I'll be 80 before I finish all the zone waypoints.

So, waiting for drops means you'll be waiting a long time. Crafting is definitely the way to go for now. But technically, any process that can drop ascended materials (empyreal fragments, dragonite) has a small % chance to instead drop an ascended gear box. It's more like a windfall than a real gearing strategy. I've gotten maybe 2 ever.
