Hellfire LFR is definitely a step up from Blackrock LFR, because they didn't remove mechanics from fights - just turned numbers down. IIRC, the only mechanic they outright removed is the immunity shield Dia Darkwhisper puts up over the other bosses on Hellfire Council, which is understandable.
I don't know what missions you guys are sending your crews on if you're using up all this oil. There's almost no worthwhile missions except gold and sorcerous elemental treasure missions. Occasionally a raid cache.
You're repeating yourself.
People want to clear out missions so that they can get rare ones to spawn which are needed for achievements. On top of that, perhaps they want to get the missions for the Gronnling/Heirloom Rings/etc.
Not sure if it's entirely accurate, but the assumption is that they'll refresh with new missions if you clear them out. Whereas letting them sit will just take even longer.

I really have not bothered with the shipyard for a couple of weeks so I have no idea what's come or gone on it

The robot on Socrethar LFR also has two of its abilities removed. Speaking of that fight, if say you get a tank that wanders around with the robot and tries to attack ghosts instead of focusing on the boss, then you discover the fight has a 10 minute enrage timer and the tank gets kicked for not listening to you shouting at him to dps the boss for the entire fight.

Kormrog's pools only give him access to the corresponding ability, rather than empowering it.

I've been working on getting a few remaining Pandaria reps up since I missed out on most of that expansion. Caught up on a lot of them last year, but I didn't really touch Operation Shieldwall. I've been doing work orders through my farm to help get a little extra rep, especially since one or two of the Shieldwall quests can be bugged. Yesterday while planting witchberries I got a bursting crop. Cool, I thought, but I thought nothing of replanting a new witchberry, and that was a mistake. One of the requirements for the work order dailies is that you harvest the witchberries on the next day, so today I was out of luck for completing that quest.
I proceeded to make another mistake: planting and replanting witchberries until I got another bursting plant. Don't do this. I'm not sure how much money and time I wasted, but I did not get a bursting crop. This is probably not unheard-of advice for the Pandaria veterans out there, of course.

Wait, this is a thing? Wow imma feel stupid if that's the case.
Either way, I had a whole week+ of treasure missions to churn through over you guys!
But having the oil rig for a week has gotten me back up to 3k oil so I've got that going for me.
I still want the fucking heirloom ring, all I'm getting is baleful gear.

I came in second place in the fishing tournament yesterday, which is just as well because I was just going for that heirloom ring. Also, I already came in first years ago during WotLK during Superbowl Sunday.
Anyway, felt good! Pretty sure there weren't many people competing for it on my realm; the person who got 1st place was on the opposing faction. Kind of tempted to try again next Sunday with the hopes of getting that fishing rod or some other fishing gear.
We got heroic Xul'whatever in 4 attempts last night, with 2 1% wipes just before. I felt that fight would take forever, but i guess not. Tyrant did not go so great though, half the raid dead coming out of first phase.

Decided to token my way into a month's worth of game time to get the flying achievement cleared out. The first thing I noticed is that my server is dead, not underpopulated, dead as a doornail. And this is a merged server that still somehow lists as 'Medium' populated. On the one hand it's a good thing that there are so many cross-server tools to get groups going, but on the other, I don't know how the dev team would be able to bring back the server community feel even if they wanted to. And we're only two months into the most recent patch. Ouch.
The second thing I noticed was that these reputation grinds are awful - one quest per day for one of the factions (Order of the Awakened I think?) is just not cool. The one I thought was going to be the most horrible, the Saberstalkers, I'm nearly finished with thanks to the group finder and a temporary willingness to endure monotony for hours on end. Hopefully they'll have a better rep system for Legion, because WoD's are a travesty.
It is true that shipyard missions take much longer to expire than follower ones, many lasting for a month
Yup and its kinda annoying you wind up having to send boats that are all epic on the 500 xp missions just to clear them to get something else to spawn so you wind up doing a lot of crappy missions to get the few you want.

That "one quest" gives 1500 Reputation before modifiers. One quest for lots of rep is much preferred to lots of quests for a little rep each.
Also the Saberstalkers has a weekly quest that gives like 5000 Reputation and a chance at at daily that gives 1500. You don't need to grind it out.
Oh I know, it's just that chasing down rares is pretty much your only option for completing it each day and that's a problem for me when so much of the terrain is a pain to navigate and people vaporize these rares in a handful of seconds (though at least not as quickly as the Timeless Isle rares). I just prefer the variety of previous systems like those of the Netherwing and Cloud Serpent reputations. Give me some collectables to turn in if I don't have time to kill X of Y, a race or some other such activities to break up the routine.
And to be honest if I were more invested in the endgame I would be playing for longer, but as it stands I just want to hammer this out so that I can be done before my month's sub is up which means I have to get these reps done as quickly as possible. Tough to do when during the weekdays I have about an hour each night to get these quests done.
There are also a fair number of chests that are rarely picked up so going to one and server hopping works pretty well.

Oops, typed this up and forgot to hit post. Oh well, some of it is still pretty helpful:
For doing the "get 10 apexis fragments" off rares quest, it's easiest to kill the three cat dudes for that weekly Rumble in the Jungle quest every day. That should always net you about 6 apexis fragments, and it's quick. There's almost always someone doing it on my server, and they're open tap. And if not, I can always find a group in group finder.
Another place I found to be pretty easy to get the rest of my fragments is at the Iron Front. There are two different banners that can occasionally be used that summon a rare; it doesn't matter if Horde or Alliance used the batter, because again, the rares are open tap. I almost always see these banners up. There are also two towers in the eastern part of Iron Front, and each one occasionally houses a rare. Since they're relatively high, your rare indicator arrow will probably not indicate that they're there until you climb a little higher.
Be sure to get the NPCScan addon if you don't have it already. It makes it much easier for me to realize a rare is nearby.
I noticed a lack of tabards when I got back recently. Instead, everyone is some long lost cousin to Leeroy Jenkins (even on the Horde side) and -Moonsomething or other. It's kinda annoying. It's pretty big change and a bit distracting when I have to look at who is talking and try to string together the conversion going on in chat.
If you're seeing dashes in people's names in chat, that means they're from a different server than yours. It's very likely your server got merged with at least two other ones. What that has to do with tabards though I don't know. You can get a chat mod to do stuff to make it more readable like abbreviating the server names or adding colors to indicate people are from off-server.
No, the - was for some of the Achievement names I've been seeing seem to be hyphenated like that. So a person's name might be Grunts and then they add a last name that makes them Grunts-Moonshit. I've seen a lot of people with names like that.
On another subject, what Add-ons do people use now? I was happy to see that Atlas was still around, but what others seem to be must haves?
Are you talking about the title that appears as part of their name above their head? As far as I know those should not be visible in the chat window and none add a hyphen like you describe. The way names are displayed in the chat window is their character name and then if they're on a server different from yours, a hyphen and then their server.

Chasing down rares is the last thing you do for it.
Run through zones that aren't the daily and grab the chests.
Or help people doing King of the Jungle. That's 6 to 8 of them right there.
I can usually get nearly all of mine from chests in that under ground passage from zeth'gol/kra'nak to Iron Harbor/Fel Forge.
If your server is dead then there should always be plenty of them.
I've already been collecting those chests and doodads throughout the last couple of days. Do some of them respawn or become collectable again? If they respawn, super. Otherwise I have a bit of a hunt on my hands.

The 2 title positions are mutually exclusive. If you're seeing hyphens, it's someone from another realm in the same zone as you, which is extremely common.
As for addons, I'm a huge fan of TidyPlates and Master Plan is an absolute must for when you have a garrison. I also particularly like Mik's Scrolling Battle Text. Though you'd be hard pressed to get me to call any addons 'requirements' anymore. Most of the best stuff has been rolled into the stock UI in some form or another.

Yeah, there are chests and doodads that do respawn, but they aren't the same ones that get marked on your map as treasures (assuming you bought the treasure map).
Yeah you're basically describing people from Moonguard. They're from a server that was 'merged' with yours.

So you're saying blizzard purposefully named their gear because it was actively harmful and destructive to the game?

I mentioned NPCScan in an earlier post - great for drawing your attention to rare nearby enemies.
DeadlyBossMods or BigWigs are musts for dungeon/raid bosses.
Master Plan is great for when you get to WoD content and have to manage your garrison follower missions.
Titan Panel is an old one that I still like. It gives you a customizable information bar at the top of the screen.
Scrap is good for automatically selling grey items or other stuff you've designated as junk.
Bartender is handy for better customization of your action button bars.
