But the X-Men books are still huge. Currently, almost everything's on hiatus because of Secret Wars, but it'll all be back in some form. Marvel has far more to gain from promoting FF and X-Men stuff than not because the movies and merch make far more money than the comics.
Money that goes to Fox.
Essentially, them promoting the Xmen is them promoting a vehicle where the one who profits most from it is someone else.
And yes, Xmen has one of the most titles, but they're supposed to be paring back on them after the summer.
It doesn't do Marvel a whole lot of good to be pushing Xmen so hard when they don't get most of the money for all the work. It's free promotion for Fox.
Marvel gets the money from the merch and the movies get people to check out the comics.
Yeah, but that effort could be spent on the other comic properties that they have all the rights to. I doubt they would ever cut the x-men line entirely, just cut it down to the point where they aren't giving FOX free storylines for movies.
But if they hire on random expensive writer to make a new event happen, they aren't going to throw him at the x-men line where they can't fully capitalize on it. They are going to put him on the avengers or whatever. The xmen will just be a side attraction to the event.
Right, and the idea that I've heard is promoting the Inhumans to take the place of the xmen. Instead of mutants, have inhumans. Because if they can bring the xmen audience in on inhumans they can get a similar feel from books that they control entirely.
Also from what I am led to believe they aren't just dropping the xmen, but they are paring it back to just a few titles, and cutting a lot of what currently gets published.
It is also true that they aren't printing that FF thing again, and the reason I gave is the one that was given to me.
I just wouldn't be surprised if marvel started cutting back on the xmen stuff a lot. They don't have a ton of money to make off of them, not when they could be putting the effort towards places where they have a much bigger profit share.
I don't know what that means for Gaz, but I imagine that what it might mean is fewer new X-heroes, and possibly more avengers/inhumans. I mean, they don't have any inhumans yet. I want to kill stuff with medusa hair.

There are so goddamn many X-Men books coming down the line that you'd gave to be an idiot to believe those rumors
And the Fantastic Four book is ending, but mostly because the book wasn't selling and also they're playing prominent central roles in Secret Wars
Well, mutants and inhumans both have a mix of those. Blackbolt looks like a perfectly normal person, he just can't speak or he'll cause massive destruction. On the other hand, Beast doesn't look human at all.

Please elaborate. The only thing I've heard recently about upcoming X-Men books is that there's a good chance they're taking mutants off of Earth so they can have their own safe haven planet or some bullshit to put the Inhumans at the forefront of 'weird powers n shit' on Earth. There's saying something, like the X-men aren't going away, and then there's doing something, like putting out only a handful of xbooks that have such shitty storylines nobody reads them anyway. Obviously that's all opinion (I know that apparently a love of people love "all new xmen" or whatever the new old team is), but from my perspective it feels like the things they're actually doing are pretty on par for the rumors that they're slowly paring back/cancelling FF and XM. Maybe I'm just super nostalgic but over the past decade or so I've seen the X-men go from my very first and absolute favorite comic book, to a big ol pile of meh storylines I just don't give a shit about.
In any case, even if Marvel is pairing them back, they've got a big enough following that I don't see them getting pushed into the background of MH as a very big/valid concern.

I apologize for bringing it up. Admittedly, kind of knew it would probably become an argument but being an asshole, I had to ask anyway.
In any case, was eyeing those 40% off Deadpool costumes and team ups but going to just do the smart thing and wait for the team up revamp and anniversary sales right around the corner.
Really love the team up concept and its not something I would mind spending money if the revamp comes out nicely.
Anyway, is this 40% off X-Men sale worth going for or are they likely to do a 50% off sale for their anniversary? I wouldn't be playing it for a couple weeks, so I don't mind waiting (deep in the Witcher 3 hole).
X-Men stories have been amazing in the past couple years. I really like the schism stuff and the post AvX stories.

I'm not all that familiar with past sales (only been playing for about two months and a half) but if theres any time to bust out the big gun sales, it would make sense to be the anniversary.

X-Men 92, Age of Apocalypse, E for Extinction, Inferno, Old Man Logan, Last Days Magneto, X-Tinction Agenda, House of M, Years of Future Past, AvX, not to mention X-Men playing vital roles in books like A-Force, Thors, and Star-Lord and Kitty Pryde
Fox just owns movie rights, not the actual IPs, otherwise Marvel would have to license the material just to make comics. Gaz can use Marvel Studios stuff, but other studio's work has to be done with a separate deal. For instance, Brevik said they would love to do the Daredevil costume from the tv show but they would have the do a double licensing deal with Marvel and Netflix, so it would not be cost effective for them (note the latest DD costume is from the comic, not the show). They also have been unable to get access to Agents of Shield (Coulson they use is technically from the Avengers movie). From what Brevik has said there have been no restrictions on using characters whose movie rights are owned by other studios (namely X-Men, FF, Spider-Man) other than they can't use the costumes.
Those are all the X-Men books coming from Secret Wars that I could think of
There might be one or two I missed
The X-Men aren't going anywhere, Marvel isn't "paring them back"
I thought you meant books that will be sticking around. Everybody's got secret wars books coming out, I'd hardly consider that as "proof" of their lasting power. What I've been reading is that AFTER secret wars (which is what, a few months tops), the X-Men lines will be drastically reduced. That's not a far-fetched theory. Certainly it might not end up coming true, but it's not outside the realm of possibility.
Also, the 90s books were way better than the current stuff. I hated House of M and thought it was bullshit to just get rid of all but a handful of mutants. Schism was pretty dumb, Wolverine the guy that's pretty much single-handedly racked up a genocide-worthy kill count is now the moral authority on mutants, ok. AvX, has the Avengers acting as world police and when Cyclops does the natural thing to do by telling them to f' off back to America they go down a big road where Scott ends up as a terrorist. Then Beast gets mad at Scott so he brings the old X-men back so Scott can see what a dick he's become, and now they're off doing shit in space. You guys are welcome to love these stories, but you'll never convince me that they're any good.

I mean, we actually know very little about what books will be around after Secret Wars, in part because they're going to be using Secret Wars tie in book sales to determine what sort of books people want
But I'd say it's pretty telling that fully like... A third of the whole line involves the X-Men

See, I hadn't heard that, about the book sales, but it makes sense and that'd be a great thing for them to do, pretty much because it means we'll be getting more X-Men books. I picked up the Deadpool Secret Wars and was actually surprised how funny it was.

Out of curiosity, have you read all that stuff or are you going off of summaries?

think stash tabs will go on sale for the anniversary? I need to buy one or two it seems, but I don't wanna miss out if there's discounts
No.
Last year they did give out a free one though.
I really hope theres a repeat performance of that this year.
Would be perfect timing with the way I'm running out of space to manage.
I can't remember where I saw it (probably a few pages back on this thread) but someone posted a pic of one of the devs saying they're working on splinter tabs, which I was led to believe means tabs purchasable via eternity splinters.

Well, mutants and inhumans both have a mix of those. Blackbolt looks like a perfectly normal person, he just can't speak or he'll cause massive destruction. On the other hand, Beast doesn't look human at all.
I'm convinced Maximus' mutation was to become a handsome summbitch
Wow, I had no idea about the stat rolls on uniques carrying over to them being upgraded. That's interesting.
I started leveling my Rogue. I find the "build a power set" thing to be kind of daunting. And I appear to run out of energy really really fast. I ended up getting the shocker's passive going just so I'd have a bit more regen.
Thor's power is really, really good for keeping her spirit up. Hands you like 50 spirit+ on an 8 second cooldown (while zapping trash). It does use an Impact slot though.
That one is pretty good. The dash from Psylocke can be handy as well, reducing the cost of the next ability you use.

Or even netting spirit I think? Not quite sure.
At any rate... Rogue is easily the most "oh god what do I do" character to build. Upside is that she can respec to a degree without retcons.

Too damn late at night for me to be posting. My brain is already half off.
A few years ago I accidentally referred to Catwoman as a Marvel character which brought me equal sort of shame.
