Eh, throwback character design has always been a thing. Jill from 9&10 (all-time favorite character) is a close rip of Minerva from 1&3. It's just more noticeable now.
Where's my Hector derivative, Khan
Where is it
In the Tellius games. Ike was conceived from the beginning as a Hector-like instead of the standard FE lord.
Have they said how long til the neutral route will be available? The online multiplayer component seems like it'll be a lot of fun, if you're actually playing vs another person.
Awakening was 27 chapters and 17 (+6 Spotpass) paralogues, and put out a total of 25 DLC maps for £40. New 3DS games go for £30, so it was far too pricey in that regard.
Very disappointed in (character design spoilers):
The characters that resemble the popular kids from Awakening. I always find it a bummer to see such transparent pandering at the cost of creativity.
Apprehensive about the Castle stuff, waiting on clarification there. Status: Guarded expectation.
Design related support (and sort of plot?) spoiler
They don't just resemble those kids. If I'm reading right, supports reveal that Owain, Severa, and Inigo went on a little vacation in the outrealms. They look like them because they are them.
Man...about
to be so many secret marriages and unclaimed children.
so did we find out what was the deal with the second gen in the new game?
more time travel stuff in the my castle thing, or whatever?
The easiest answer is that this whole game is taking place in a different outrealm from the events in Awakening. Because it's the same universe time traveling shenanigans should also apply. As to why they are taking residence here? Perhaps some of them didn't want to occupy the past where their younger selves now also exist, so they ventured forth into new worlds. That means if there is another Fire Emblem game we could potentially see some of the other Awakening characters show up, as they can say each game or campaign is taking place in different outrealms. In fact they could even release smaller scale DLC, a set missions the size of maybe Lyn's tutorial campaign or so and ship it as different challenge sets taking place in the outrealms; completing them lets you bring back bonuses into a different campaign.

i think what Napthali meant by second generation are the children of the characters you field in this gen and how they get to being playable units, not Inigo, Severa, and Owain.

I got that impression as well, but I was thinking there was an answer that easily explains the situation for both the second gen characters from awakening and fates.

Also...something else I'm thinking. About the not-X characters...
So...from what I gathered with Awakening is that there are many alternate universes or at least that's what happened from the dragons fucking around with the time stream.
So technically couldn't all of the time travelers be from a world of Awakening where they "won" but also not be the same one that you played in Awakening. Basically, a slight variation.
That way they can do a callback without it having too much influence on the choices you made during
From what I've seen it looks like the kids in Fates are born in that reality and then shoved into some time-accelerated Outrealm via My Castle to be raised by natives there and occasionally visited by their actual parents so they grow up, relative to the game you're playing, super-fast.
Familiar faces of Nohr:
They are really, actually, Inigo, Owain, and Severa from some variant of Awakening where they didn't all get paired off by the end and have gone "undercover" for some reason. There's apparently talk of letting their potential children choose whether or not to join them when they leave Fates for whatever next trip they're planning.
Familiar faces of Hoshido:
They might be some weird reincarnation or reflection or something of Gaius, Tharja, and Cordelia, but with the life history actual kids of the Fates characters would have had.
Non-Tharja still has that stalkery infatuation with the player, which is why she's the one that will marry a female Corrin. One of Non-Cordelia's possible mothers in the Third Path seems to be
Severa, which is going to really compound Severa's mommy issues.

Haha...that explanation for the child characters is such a video gamey explanation.

After reading about
Severa, it's got to suck feeling inferior to you mother again, by having your daughter pretty much be her reincarnation. I only hope Not-Cordelia isn't chasing after a married man this time around because that would be unfortunate. Seriously, her supports with Sumia in Awakening were awkward considering the fact that, even after Chom and Sumia married and had a kid, Cordelia was still secretly pursuing Chrom.

children are tied to dads this time, not moms
They still have moms. Just like they had dads in Awakening.

yeah, but
if Heatwave is talking about the Cordelia lookalike from Hoshido, first of all that isn't even possible for Severa to be her mom given the current 2 campaigns since Severa is on Nohr's side
secondly she could be any child's mom since children are tied to dads so it makes no sense for Heatwave to be talking about Severa's daughter as if it's set in stone - it's completely variable depending on which dad you pair her with
I almost want then to go whole hog on the idea of outworlds in a future game and have a lord and tactician going all thought history and alt history assembling the greatest of ass kickers

Pokemon: FE? The player character is a Tactician / Trainer and travels the outworlds searching for characters to train and bosses to fight. You collect Fire Emblems and when you have 8 you get to challenge the big baddie of the multiverse for his throne. Naturally you'll also have to bring along a token lord loaded with hidden skills in order to clear obstacles.

Without any spoilers, I realized something the other day about characters in this game that strongly resemble (or just plain look like) characters from Awakening: All those characters were winners of the FE:A popularity contest, which were revealed in the Summer and Hot-Spring Scramble DLCs.
Thinking about that, it's not surprising that their design and part of their personality make a return.
EDIT:
Or looking at those DLC conversations, they can full on SHOW OFF that they're the same character, lol. Is that canon, though? Because for continuity's sake that's really awkward

It's not just DLC. The ones in Nohr absolutely are the same characters.
Looking up more and more about this game, there's this lingering worry that the western team might censor large parts of this game. Has this subject been touched upon by anyone yet? Like any confirmations of how things will be handled?
is apparently playable, though no one's figured out how, exactly. Probably spotpass? Anyways, her supports are still great
Anna: "Well... that's true enough... Sigh... is there really a name out there that can express my individuality? Like... I wish I had a name that just dripped with my individuality."
Kamui: "A name that just drips with your individuality... Hmm, maybe "Anna Unit 1", or "High-pressure Salesgirl", or "Moneylover"..."
Anna: "W-well, that does sound like me alright, but I don't think I want people calling me that."

Considering the translation for Awakening improved the game, I have high hopes for Fates.

Don't believe so but I have to assume there will be one - at least digitally.
Improving upon translation to ease up on lewd content is fine and all, but I do disagree with completely REMOVING content. If anything I'd say they should make edits to stuff that exists so it's less mature-oriented. If they remove certain supports, for example, or edit them to remove any implication of romantic interest on politically questionable pairings, it would annoy me. A lot of people think the game will inevitably be censored to hell, whereas I'm more worried that they'll destroy some content simply to make the game "more approachable to the younger crowd".

Really outside of blood related pairings being called companions instead of husband/wife I don't remember much censorship in Awakening.
And I forget if that really even was a censor or if it was like that in the original Japanese.
Oh yeah and Tharja's butt, which was funny cause they only made the image even more suggestive.
Also Nowi talking about Tharja's hair instead of her boobs in the European version. Weird that the US version has more "sexual" content in it than the EU one.

Maybe, but he's nowhere near a match for Harry Ord.

I don't know. He's not Char, so how can we compare him?
Why I fear the ocean.
good point
I don't know what came over me, Char always has sleeves and never has sunglasses, they're nothing alike
Well, in a world where everyone is always at world and ancient forces in the shadows, I guess its nice to have the breathing room.

it said 3rd hand information, so I kind of skipped over it. definitely does seem possible, but 3rd path isn't even out in Japan yet, is it?
Well, Silas and Jakob join you even on the Hoshido route and she can support with them, soo..
