Serpent in the Staglands is an RPG that takes a lot of cues from 90's games, particularly the game Darklands and its art style. You play a minor god who gets stuck on Earth, and must take on a body to find out what's happening. You travel with up to a party of five, in a late Bronze Age Transylvania setting. The game makes use of a classless skill system for you to build characters with, including combat skills and magic, and utilizes a real-time pausing combat system. The game is open world, with a non-linear story that allows for exploration from the outset.
Currently available for sale on Humble Bundle and Steam. The homepage has a demo for download that has a few of the earlier areas to play in.
I got the demo last night and I'm looking forward to giving it a go today. Nearly AU$30 at face-value seems a bit bloody steep, but if it gives a good impression of a CRPG experience on my laptop, I could be tempted to take the plunge.
edit: Goodness me the manual is over 150 pages long. Might brew some coffee and bust out a notepad
