MegaGames: 60+ Player Political Science Simulations
I teach a game design class (among other elective classes) and this year we decided to play and create a megagame called, "ALLIANCE," in the fashion of John Hunter's "World Peace Game" (tedtalk) or the UK MegaGame Makers' "Watch the Skies." The students enjoyed it so much that they decided to organize their own public Saturday event inviting classmates, University of Houston college students, and parents. Ultimately we had 60+ participants! Luckily I was smart enough to get a videographer and now we are editing the longer video. But in the meantime we have a trailer to give you some idea.
John Hunter's Ted Talk was pretty popular, but I havn't seen many people try to replicate his work, and he hasn't released any rules, only a book about his experiences. And who here has heard of Megagames? Shut Up & Sit Down has 3 videos about their experiences with them, and they obviously enjoyed themselves. Why aren't we seeing more of this? I'm willing to publish my game through www.TheGameCrafter.com but I'm not sure how to spread the word. Do you think something like this would gain much traction?
