The good thing about all the top players playing Splat Zones right now is that the competition in Turf War right now is, well, manageable. Easy victories hoooo
Kraken is nice because you can charge into enemy territory and trivially kill them on their own ink. But a bubblamed Jr can trivially ink over enemy territory and get to them just about as fast as long as you're not outnumbered. I think the main exception is if you need to go up. It's faster to Kraken up a wall covered with enemy ink than to shoot and swim it, especially if you're being harassed by multiple enemies that keep recovering your spray.
So: Kraken if you need to swim up enemy walls or take out multiple enemies in their own ink. Bubbler for everything else.
You'll never catch an astute enemy in their own ink with Kraken unless you're directly on top of them when you activate it. They swim faster than you, they're more maneuverable, and you can't spray ink ahead of them to slow them down or constrain the direction of their retreat. Also the act of attacking in Kraken form slows you down, so if you whiff once they're long gone. A lot of the time I don't even know which direction they fled in, if we were in an open area. You can even escape from Krakens by making a tight loop behind them sometimes.
The Bubbler can also be spread to allies which can allow for really aggressive plays.
I'm getting pretty close to having bought all of the weapons. It has been delayed by me buying everything in the other shops, though, earlier today and just now when it cycled at midnight.

I'm not worried about the weapons too much. I already have my favorite weapons in the game. Clothes and adding slots to them is way more important to me.
It's strange that the paintbrush type roller featured so prominently in prerelease trailers and commercials and such, and it's nowhere to be found in the base game. I bet it'll be our next weapon, or else pretty soon. I could imagine some kid even being sold on the game because you get to wield a giant brush, and then gets disappointed when it's not available.
It looks like it has a uselessly narrow strip that it paints, but you can swipe back and forth with it quickly for some purpose. Better melee maybe? It'd be cool if it's the only roller-type weapon with the bubbler, to make up for its shortcomings...
Considering a lot of sea creatures EAT other sea creatures, fishing doesn't seem that outrageous.

Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration. - Lincoln
I was able to hold of a Kraken with the Junior. I kept backpedalling while I unloaded on him and it appeared to push it back with every hit, or at least prevent it from going full speed.
I picked up that tactic against seekers, but I was surprised to see it work against a kraken, too. It must have sucked for the guy who thought he was going to kill me and my teammate to end up dead after his kraken failed to reach me.
I've rarely had problems being on the receiving end of a Kraken, unless I was caught by surprise. Even then, evasion was trivial. I've only used it a few times, but I don't think I have any kills with it. It would probably be better served as an incursion into enemy territory. While enemies are busy avoiding the Kraken, teammates can swim up in your trail.
The Bubbler is still the best option. Quick to use and allows you to continue shooting like normal.
Anything is better than the Inkzooka, though. That thing is trash. I won a duel against one on Port Mackerel by side stepping 4 shots while I slowly advanced and splatted him.
Still server maintenance? Or was that just the game spitting idiosyncratic netcode errors at me?
It once told me to check the other parties' internet connection...

I can confirm that the Judd glitch I mentioned earlier has been patched. I got in a good 5-6 added slots and rerolls earlier, didn't get my money back from Judd this time. Oh well.
Man o man. I got stuck on a team tonight that couldn't win to save their lives.
I had horrible luck earlier today for ages. Probably 50% of my matches were 3 vs. 4 due to a D/C on my side, and the other ones I ended up with a bunch of guys who puttered around in our own base painting the floor meticulously, aiming directly at their feet. Couldn't get any kind of win streak to save my life.
Are there any thoughts on Chargers yet? Are they as terrible as they seem? Respawn times just don't seem long enough for a PKing geared weapon, and it's awkward to paint with.

They're good in Splat Zones, and bad in Turf War
It's bad for points accumulated in turf war, on some stages more than others. Port Mackarel with its long straight areas seems to go for it, while Saltspray Rig just laughs in your face.
So am I understanding correctly that Splatfests are only 24 hours? And, IIRC, we have to win almost 40 games to get the best reward (and pick the most popular team, which always bothers me with these faction war systems)?

After an initial loss, I'm on an 6810-win streak. The experience values are NUTS. I've gone from the start of level 15 to 16 in just a few matches
What are the conditions for a non-knockout victory? Is it exclusively time out?
Also, is there anything to stop you from maintaining a splash wall forever? I haven't tried it in a match, but it seems to work in the shooting range
It's a Japanese reward system.
Succeed? Here's your reward, celebrate your victory!
Fail? You get fucking nothing. Loser.

I can deal with losing a match and finding out afterward that we were down a man due to a D/C. That makes the loss not sting as much.
But literally starting a match and seeing only three people spawn on the pad in the intro cutscene, and the enemy has all four?!
Come on, you had time to do something about that before the match began! Kick us all out and do matchmaking again!
Goddamnit Nintendo

Also, they said the paintbrush would be released shortly after release, so maybe next week or even Friday?
Y'know they have even more reason to say "off the hook" as a positive thing, instead of on, given that they're sea creatures.
