Ok, I know I'm late to the party, but I just bought the Standard Edition and am downloading it on my PC. Looking forward to Horde mode in the morning. I'm a bit rusty, I havent played a shooter in over a year.
If I'm reading this right, apparently, you don't need the ultimate edition to get the Gears of War 360 games.
As long as you buy Gears4 soonish you get the previous 360 games.

I'm Waltz for Venus if you want to add me for Horde. Also on PC.

I miss some of the old gears weapons. Glad checkout is back, but I was never a fan of drydock. That being said impact is the worst so more maps will be good if for no reason than ti decrease frequency of that disaster.

Not sure if I hit some bad luck with bounties or not, but I have a bunch of stuff from my initial packs that are similar to "3 knife kills". Those are super hard to accomplish even in something like escalation that lasts fucking forever. Point being, at level 50 I've opened 2 (maybe 3?) elite packs (3500 coins). Got a legendary out of them but seems to be going slow? The lack of achievable bounties is tough, but I dunno if the orhee packs are a waste.

Edit: just reread the patch notes. The lancer/gnasher/Hammerfest changes are only for competitive?

I need to stop buying games on Friday at 400p. Been living with the parents for a while looking for another apartment and their internet is balls.
This is probably the third weekend I've spent looking at a 70gig download... 40 more to go for gears 4...

I love playing Soldier because the Lancer combined with the three skills I'm using, perfect reload damage bonus, assault rifle damage bonus, and magazine size bonus means I have a lancer that's just below turret power once I reload.

Once you get to wave 15ish or so it's all turrets all the time, which honestly gets real boring. Just firing a turret for half an hour with no running around, active reloads, chainsawing, dodging, etc.

Not sure how it'd work with s green real estate but it'd be cool to have the winning team or the highest scoring player's skin displayed on the score screen at the end of the game. Other than the obvious ones like color blast a lot of the details can be lost while playing.

With the update going live today are chainsaws going to be rampant now that thr gnasher has no stopping power at all? I'd think you could just charge through shotgun fire if it doesnt immediately take you out and saw people.

Interested to see how much that no fire bug was impacting me though. I expect I'll still get smashed anyway

Ugh, this microtransaction bullshit is getting out of hand.
Today, hip hop’s biggest names officially join the Gears of War family with playable characters ready for Versus Multiplayer and Horde 3.0. Available for purchase as part of the Run the Jewels Air Drop, both EL-P and Killer Mike have lent their voices, likeness and ‘can’t nobody save us but us’ attitude to Gears of War 4 continuing their partnership with Xbox and The Coalition. This is the first time two recording artists have been reimagined as playable characters in the Gears of War franchise or any Xbox game. The brotherhood that Killer Mike and El-P represent as Run the Jewels perfectly matches the soul of Gears, which at its core is about that brotherhood and never fighting alone.

Also available alongside the playable EL-P and Killer Mike within the Run the Jewels Air Drop are 18 themed weapon skins, emblems and bounties to ensure fans have the appropriate levels of swagger to add to their Gears of War 4 Versus Multiplayer and Horde experience.

From the sounds of it, at least it isn't a random chance that you'll get an EL-P or Killer Mike or weapon skin like with the eSports packs. The bundle includes all of them? I guess that's kind of a good thing.

Now if it was $20 for a chance to get those things... yea, problematic.

not sure if the title update messed with matchmaking, there is no one on, or what but as silver 2 which am i getting paired against what is obviously a pre-made party containing at least 1 diamond player and what seemed like 2 onyx? maybe it was platinum...i am not really sure. is there any way to check people's ranks after a game is finished?

I'll be ready for some horde mode this weekend. Apparently the game wants me to be a sniper with all the skins, abilities, and challenge cards it gave me.

I've been playing the main campaign, its ok. But y'know, I've noticed a shift since Gears1. There's not really a sense of dread, even in the music. To me, the iconic gears music is the intro track to the first game, "14 Years After E-Day". That red omen chime at 5:25, goosebumps.

    Start at 4m 32s
    https://youtu.be/VfPtL0tQKRY?t=4m32s

Yea, these guys are pretty close to super soldiers, but Gears 1 didn't have the over the top crazy escapes of Gears 2 and on. There is a building tension of "what the fuck is going on now?" The downtime has you wondering when the next thing is gonna crawl up and snatch you and its a relief when the firefight starts because I can now impose my Will with my Lancer by ripping and tearing.

I guess if there is an analogy, even loosely, Gears 1 is Alien and Gears 2 is Aliens. Gears 2 does what a sequel should do, and expands the universe and provides a new way to tell a story. I do think they should have reigned the giant worm and the Jacinto monster because that just set the stage to go big or go home in everything that's come after.

Gears 4, yea I understand the story, I'm following along why we are at these certain places, but there is no dread in uncovering the mystery of what the fuck is going on or what these things are. No one is gut checked by the big reveal. How do we get out? Cut the elevator cables... *blink blink*

I'm still having fun, but it doesn't have the soul of Gears, to me.

I'm sure in this case there were licensing costs to consider, but hopefully in the future Carmine pack or whatever it won't be like this.

I'm hoping tonight will be better for matchmaking. Maybe I should just jump game modes I don't particularly like execution (I vastly prefer warzone and dodgeball) but I feel sort of compelled to play it as it is the "competitive" mode, and escalation just takes too damn long. Unfortunately last night was basically "which team has the players that are 4 tiers above everyone else" not 4 ranks as in silver 1 vs silver 5 but bronze/silver vs platinum/gold/diamond/onyx(?). I want to improve and I feel as though this is the mode for me to try to do that, but it's one thing to play against people better than you to get better. It's another to just get flattened and not really have a snowball's chance in hell thereby not improving at all.

Nah, they sold dozens of weapon skins in Gears 3 seperately in gears 3. They didn't even come with the season pass. You could buy them all in a $45 dollar collection though!

Gears Judgment had weapon skins AND armor skins.

Oh, I agree. $20 is crazy for how little the pack contains. My comment was more of a swipe at the eSports packs - $10, completely random content with the chance of duplicates, and not all of it was even eSports related goods (besides one or two of the items, the rest have a chance to be just regular items from normal packs). Just awful.

In hindsight, it still doesn't make the $20 price tag sound much better, but the eSports packs just completely rub me the wrong way as far as paid DLC goes.

Like, for Gears 3, $15 netted an entire singleplayer episode with six character models and a new weapon skin. You basically got it for free if you bought the $30 season pass, too.

I can't really get worked up over the cost of the skins. They cost what they are charging and if people don't buy them they'll go on sale or have reduced prices next time around (well theoretically). Presumably people are paying the premium so it's been staying that way. I'm just glad the maps will be free as that helps the game keep going.

Man, there's some hot bullshit here.
Not having the lancer to start the game is a fucking pain in the ass, because the Markza is ammo limited and the Enforcer has WAY too short of a range: you have no good mid-far option and it really makes it hard to fight. Once I got the Lancer, the game became more doable.

So I was trying to do Horde last night, but weirdly none of the groups would fill up. Five or six times in a row I would sit there staring at the lobby screen with 2-3 open slots watching the timer tick down from 1 min, then the game would start with only 2-3 people. Previously I've been in lobbies with open slots, but they get filled before the game actually starts. I tried casual, normal, and hardcore always with the same results. Ended up 4-manning a casual to level 20, but it just takes longer than it needs to and no way I was going to pub anything harder down a man or two from the start so I moved on to normal versus after a while of trying.

Anyone else having this problem? I don't know if it was just bad luck (although very persistent bad luck!), something with the new update, or the fact I just rolled over to level 80 and maybe there is something affected with the matchmaking?

does anyone play vs? i always see people mention horde but not much about the pvp modes.

i may be hanging up execution for a while. the matches never seem balanced and across 5 gears of war games i don't think i've ever been good at that mode. escalation seems to go a lot better for me, the problem is that 25+ minutes is a long time. meaning i get less games in per night and i kinda have to schedule around it. execution or dodgeball are a lot faster paced. i think if escalation was first to 5 it'd be fine. i don't really see a reason to reset the map.

dodgeball went much better tonight (execution as i mentioned was a disaster). unfortunately it was a huge amount of lag which wasn't present in the competitive modes. probably a coincidence but whatever. i really want to play the "classic" modes/style rather than modes with respawns, but even at launch it didnt appear a lot of people were playing warzone, haven't tried recently and as i mentioned execution seems to have a low population as well.

I don't know if it is because of my rank or what but I don't tend to see crazy wall bouncing a lot. Even in streams off the top of my heas. There's a lot more "turn corner BOOM" gnasher finishes then bouncing. Maybe it's the map design since I frequently see "open space" gnasher battles. As in 2+ people trading shots and dancing around each other. Usually the wall bouncing shows up in a 3v1 scenario and someone is desperate.

I've discovered part of my problem is on many maps I don't really understand why other people do some of the things that they do. Frequently people I guess are practicing the longshot or embarrassing because 3 or 4 of us will rush there fumble around with it and get demolished by the boom shot or dropshot or grenades. I cannot usually take someone down with lancer fire and get easily overwhelmed because their whole team showed up. If I try to cover flankers or support their decision to go for sniper I end up getting flanked myself so I assume there is something wrong with my positioning but I cannot figure out what. Thats before you get into the fact that I seem to lose 100% of gnasher battles. The meter for % damage is some solace since I know I was close...sort of I guess.

Next week marks a huge milestone for the Gears of War franchise. On November 7th, it will have been 10 years since the original Gears of War released on store shelves. We still can’t quite believe it!

Those ten years have included the release of five Gears of War titles, memorable character moments, emotional endings, and jumping 25 years into the future of Sera with Gears of War 4 to start a whole new saga. At the heart of it all, what truly makes Gears special is the fans– from the stories you share of finding love through Gears, the huge tattoos of your favorite characters, intricately crafted fan-art built from months of effort, to simply connecting with one another because of the game.

All of us at The Coalition feel incredibly proud and fortunate to be sharing this moment with Gears fans just one month after the release of Gears of War 4. As a thank you to one of the best communities in gaming, we’re announcing “10 Years of Gears”, a series of celebrations to mark this incredible milestone for Gears of War.

    Tenth Anniversary Gear Pack
First seen in the Outsider community during the Gears of War 4 campaign, Gary Carmine is here and ready for action – if he can stay alive. Death runs strong in the Carmine family, and our Tenth Anniversary Gear Pack teaser pays tribute to the family tradition as Gary Carmine takes to the Versus battlefield. It’ll be up to you to save Carmine when you play as him this November!

Gary Carmine is part of a special Tenth Anniversary Gear Pack built for our fans. This special pack contains Gary Carmine, a trio of weapons themed to the previous Carmine brothers, commemorative anniversary weapons and emblems to collect as you play.

Obtainable exclusively through gameplay, each 200 Credit pack contains one 10 Years of Gears customization item, one 10 Years of Gears Emblem or bounty, and a random card from the Gears of War 4 Launch Series of Cards. The full list of content can be found below:

    Gary Carmine Character
    Anthony Carmine Longshot
    Benjamin Carmine Gnasher
    Clayton Carmine Lancer
    10 Years of Gears Lancer
    10 Years of Gears Hammerburst
10 Years of Gears Retro Lancer
10 Years of Gears Markza Mk. 1
    10 Years of Gears Enforcer
    Gary Carmine Emblem
    10 Years of Gears Emblem
5 Bounties, each themed to a Gears of War game

The Tenth Anniversary Gear Pack arrives in game on November 7th.

    In-Game Events
While you collect all the content on offer next week, enjoy brand new ways to play with returning fan-favorite playlists:

One Shot, One Kill, the ultimate fan-favorite special event with a new Gears of War 4 This sniping-focused mode spawns you only with a Longshot – but now the EMBAR is available for pickup on the battlefield to change the game. Now is the time to go for those collateral headshots!
Gnashers-Only King Of The Hill returns to Gears of War, bringing with it a gib-filled carnage of objective-driven, close-quarters combat. Your trusty Gnasher is your only friend as you battle to control the hill.

    Community Events and Competitions
On top of all the in-game action, we’ll have a bunch of community events, announcements and competitions throughout the “10 Years of Gears”.

We want to celebrate the “10 Years of Gears” by playing online with you – the fans! We’ll be running a Game with Developers event next week so fans and developers from The Coalition can play together. Details on how to join will be announced soon.

Also coming next week is the official launch of The Coalition Army. Thousands of amazing fans have already signed up to be part of the initiative, and we can’t wait to welcome more of you into the family. We’ll be delivering brand new content hand-built by the team, and providing a new way to access amazing resources like our 4K Cosplay Guides, Stream overlays and more.

We’ll also have a variety of competitions over the next month, including opportunities to win the ‘Bodied’ community weapon skin and a whole lot more. Whether you’re a creator, hardcore player or simply a fan, there’ll be a competition for you.

Updates to Gears of War 4
Following the recent release of Title Update 1 and announced details on future fixes to Gears of War 4, we will be launching a new update to our Gear Pack system later today ahead of our anniversary. This update is focused on providing a more consistent Credit earning experience, and more ways to build your collection of customization content as you play.

Following in the footsteps of the recent increase to the Credit earn rate in Horde, this update increases the Credit earn rate in Versus Multiplayer. We’ve also increased the amount of Credits received when losing to be much closer to winning, providing a more consistent income even if you’re having a rough night in Versus.

We’ve also heard your feedback on wanting more from the Bounty system. Following this update, Bounties will award significantly improved XP or Credits (depending on the Bounty) based on their difficulty, and have been rebalanced to offer achievable but challenging goals for each game mode. Bounties are now a really great way to level up faster, or build your collection of Credits.

As our final part of this update, we’re also revamping a number of our packs to provide more ways to acquire customization content. Whether you’re wanting to level up fast with Versus Boosters or building your Horde Skills with Horde Boosters, our new Gear Pack revamp allows you to build your collection of customization content through the Packs that suit your style.

Versus Boosters now contain one guaranteed customization item and four Bounties. One Bounty has a chance to be a second customization item.
Horde Boosters now contain one guaranteed customization item, four Horde Skills and a chance for a Horde Skill to be a Horde Bounty
Operations Packs now contain two guaranteed customization items

We’ll be continuing to listen to your thoughts and feedback about Gears of War 4. We can’t wait to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Gears of War next week with all of you. Here’s to many more years of Gears!
