I'm downloading it now. Should be done by the time I get home. I started downloading yesterday around 7 p.m. and it still had eight hours to go when I woke up this morning. Part of it is the usual steam pre launch download issues, part of it is I dont live in King county and washington has basically said fuck you to anyone not living in the seattle metro area
I mean. 2 bucks to try this and a ridiculous library of other games (they've got Devil May Cry on this Gamepass) is not a bad deal.
However. . .this really just seems like an easy ploy to get people to update to the latest bloated version of Windows 10.
They could very easily force most users to do that whether you like it or not lol
Yeah. Though they haven't been that dickish about the forced upgrade: I was two upgrades behind apperantly. Also, this game runs surprisingly well? I'm on a 1060 3BG and it feels smooth (at least in Boot Camp) on Medium 1440P.
. . .those Blood Sprays though.
And I'm guessing these servers are just getting the hell murdered out of them. Though VERSUS mode seems to work.

When does the Game Pass for $1.00 deal end? I think I'm gonna get that because I doubt I will play Gears 5 for more than a month.
Ha, wonder why anyone thinks he'd have anything to do with the servers even if he was still in charge. Guess just the (ex)face of the game.
Not a surprise at all the servers are screwed, no one is going to put the money into them to handle the surge that steadies out. Wonder how bad it'll be on the next release day.
"For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men. Not women. Not beasts...this you can trust."
I could have done without being forced to do Bootcamp (can you exit it through the esc menu? Forgot to check...). All I learned there of mild use was the long shot has a superior crosshair now. Oh and I guess the knife key.
"For no one - no one in this world can you trust. Not men. Not women. Not beasts...this you can trust."
Tried a few rounds of escape. Much like horde, this seems like it would be a blast with a group of people you know. In pug games, I freqently had situaions where some people wanted to scrouge for ammo while others just charged on ahead.
The only notice I got of server trouble was that little message popping up during the campaign without even pausing it. Who plays multiplayer before launch? :P
Joking, of course. I really do want to give Escape Mode a try sometime this weekend, I just need to find when the rest of you guys are online.
Oh, i can play this with gamepass I guess. That's pretty fucking keen for the dollar I paid. I guess I should play 4 first at least.

Okay, so in the Extras menu there's a quick cliff notes (heh) summary of Gears 4 cutscenes that lays out the story of that game specifically, and the 'state of the universe' video next to it is a narrated video mostly summarizing the original trilogy and the direction for the new one
I played about 2 hours last night and another 1 this morning, all together was able to get into about 3 matches fully. I kept getting kicked and endless queuing... is this happening for anyone else? I have 1gb/sec internet and my ports are forwarded. I live in California too, so I don't know what's happening.
This arrangement is secretly kind of brilliant, because I have to imagine the initial population surge is going to naturally decline by Tuesday.
Which means that if anyone asks, Microsoft and the Coalition can actually point out that Tuesday online worked flawlessly (let's say), and that all issues were in the pre-launch period, and naturally were inevitable.
Almost evil genius shit right there.

I've been mostly playing Horde and Escape on PC, got kicked repeatedly trying to match into one particular game and a few other instances of wonky startups. Overall my experience has been a little shaky but once a match gets going proper it's fairly stable. I wouldn't say it's soured my overall experience but I would like them to hopefully clean it up
is there any way to downgrade back to "regular" xbox live after the gamepass? i'd like to jump on gears right now, i mean it's right there on the home screen. however, i just won't be using the games library at all and i already have an xbox live account. it looks like it converts future xbox live gold passes, but doesnt quite say anythnig about the existing one. i asusme they are converted and consumed at the same rate?
if it's just "lapse and rebuy" i guess that's fine depending on whether it sets my existing time on fire or not
I'm pretty sure it's just a case of letting it expire and resubbing to regular xbox live.
Keep in mind you can only do the Gamepass 1:1 conversion once, after that buying a month of Xbox Live is like a third of a month for Gamepass Ultimate.

yeah i''m googling furiously to look up the info. i'm basically sitting at the checkout screen now debating. the prompts indicate that it converts 1:1 like you said, but the chart in the link below confirms the really absurd conversion rates. it claims you can cancel at any time, this just feels like one of those loopholes that great i get something, but am i missing a catch, you know?
If I no longer want Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, can I go back to Xbox Game Pass for Console or Xbox Live Gold?
You can cancel Xbox Game Pass Ultimate by signing in at www.xbox.com/accounts, and sign up again for Xbox Live Gold or Xbox Game Pass for Console.

The catch is that it's a much better deal to buy like 3 years of gold and then convert (guaranteeing Microsoft 180 bucks), compared to converting your existing sub of a few months or whatever, deciding you like Gamepass and then having to shell out like 50+ dollars for 3 year of gamepass in itself. (Gamepass doesn't get cheaper for buying it in 3, 6 or 12 month increments, unlike Xbox Live Gold). Basically they're offering huge deal to get you into their ecosystem, but one that still gets them some cheddar.

gamepass seems like one of those things that they will eventually force everyone into down the line. i get there's a lot of value in it, i just don't personally need it. admittedly i may be an outlier though
Yeah bit frustrating that servers went down was going to play some with my son. I'm having fun with campaign, the Lancer GL is my favorite child, but I am also thankful the retro lancer seemingly got an upgrade from gears 4 and is once again a good gun.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Anyone having a buggy time in campaign? I've experienced two soft locks where I couldn't proceed, both of which were eventually followed by the game hard crashing. I'm only 3 or 4 chapters in.

Well it's two dollars for two months. That's the cheapest they've got it at.
Edit: ok error message saying it can’t connect to gears online. Great, I’m trying to play the campaign btw
