Florida had a bunch of people come down and hunt snakes in the everglades a while ago. And it was hilarious. And a catastrophe if I remember correctly.
Living in CA and going to the "wilderness" out here kinda spoils you. Only have like one dangerous critter per group and those are not very deadly. Rattlesnake, it'll suck but you'll live if you get to a hospital that day and you have to basically step on one for it to bite. Black widow, mostly just gonna feel like shit for as while. Cougar might get ya but really only if you're smallish, even then you'll prolly make it if anyone else is nearby to yell at it. Basically the forests of California are natures Disneyland.
Solely from a perspective of just finding it interesting, and not as something that really bothers me, the graphics in the game trailer seem to be on a lower par than many FO3/NV mods that have been out for years. Much of it actually seemed virtually identical to FO3/NV, and not in a 'but upgraded' way, simply actually identical.
The base graphics of FO3 were never a thing that bothered me, and I played a couple hundred hours on the 360 before I was super aware that some folks had major issues with FO3's visuals. Even when I finally got it on the PC, I still really don't use any visual mods. I tried a few texture packs, but more often than not those high res ones felt too busy to me and lacked the charm of the base games (admittedly low res) textures.
Soo...the trailer having textures, and in some cases even models, that looked identical to FO3s seemed...odd? Again, I don't even mean from the perspective of them keeping the same style. I mean the actual same textures and models. Bethesda did a high res texture pack for Skyrim on the PC so I imagine they might do something like that here too, but the PS4 and XB1 can certainly handle substantially better textures than those, so why not just make it the default?
I think I know why, though. I mean, if the release date really is this year, all likelihood is that the game spent most of its development for the PS3/360 and as a result has a lot of obvious visual limitations that would require a lot of time to redo just for the PS4/XB1. Having seen it now, I'm actually curious why they aren't doing a PS3/360 version; because it really looks like those systems could handle it.
Anyway, yeah. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for higher quality visuals. I knew they were going to stick with gamebryo, so I knew that would have limitations, but it really feels like the textures and models in the trailer are lower quality than even Skyrim. The pre-war stuff felt really out of place, for whatever reason. I think I like the black and white pre-war simulation in FO3 than what they showed in the FO4 trailer. Ultimately, though, it feels more confusing than disappointing.
On the other hand I can still load up FO3 right now and feel like the graphics are great. I mean, objectively, they are certainly lacking; but if I even notice momentarily, all I have to do is play and a few seconds later they feel great. So I doubt once I'm actually playing, the graphics of FO4 will feel lacking (to me).
A few hopes, just of personal preference, are that it has a FO3 size wasteland (relatively, larger would be better!), and that despite being set in Boston, it isn't overly city focused. FO3 did it great, to me, where DC was obviously DC, and there was a lot to do there, but the wasteland itself was the centerpiece of the game. Incidentally, while NV had more straight wasteland, and New Vegas was much smaller than DC, I didn't care for the setting at all. So it's not just about space. It's about a purpose to that space, which NV did terribly. Though, to be fair, the actual Mojave feels just as purposeless, so I guess they nailed it?
Regardless of all that, I'm super stoked. And super-er stoked that I will probably be playing it this year. I'm sure this post just sounds bitchy about the graphics, but I'm serious when I say it's really more of something I find interesting, than actually disappointing. Hopefully E3 has details on changes (if any) to the systems and gameplay, VATS and all that jazz.
I honestly want to know what you're smoking, and where I can get it, if you think that trailer looks "identical" to FO3.
Apparently the trailer was compressed. This is supposedly what it looks like uncompressed: http://imgur.com/a/AeR3K#0
Although I admit I don't know much about it.

It would be funny if they did compress the video so as to have a smooth upload to streaming sites/not bullshot people and we have one of the few times a game looks better than its initial media presentation.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
Cougars are an ever present threat, you get stuck in traps and then rapey survivalists have to come save you...
Goddamn it Kim.
Up here in the North East we could have mutant black bears, cougars (both kinds), and the dreaded cougar/wolf/dog hybrids that travel around in packs (this isn't a game thing). Curse those things. Plus fisher cats and their HORRID screams.

At the very least it gives you an idea of what it will look like. Pretty much exactly what I'd expect from a Fallout 4. Either way, I don't thinking its smart to assume things about the graphics based on a youtube video.
"War never changes" referring to the one war unlike any other in methods and results.
Well its more referring to the fact conflict always exists, and man will always try and kill man, just like how in fall out everyone is always out to kill you.

Living in South Florida is basically living in East Austrailia. Or West Austrailia. Opposite Australia.
Florida has deadly snakes all over. And not just poisonous like rattlesnakes and cotton mouths, there are Boa/Python hybrids in the Everglades that will give Anacondas a run for their money. Tons of poisonous spiders. The oceans have an absolutely ridiculous infestation of lionfish, in addition to all of the dangerous sharks, and moray eels, barracuda and marlin. And in the fresh water, you get the double joy of alligators and crocodiles. And if you decide to try to get as far away from the wetlands as possible, you wind up in boar, bear and panther territory.
Edit: Oh. And fire ants. Fuck fire ants.
Don't forget Florida Drivers, those a threat unto themselves.

I live in Southern New England. 1/2 the drivers up here are snow birds. Worst of both worlds.
NV didn't have brilliant environmental design or subtle stories?
Well, I guess nothing can stand up to the brilliance of Little Lamplight
Not what I'm talking about.
Fallout 3 had moments like finding the robot reading to the skeletons of the little children, incredibly effective uses of the environment to tell stories that didn't rely on notes or audiologs (although it had them too). There's a light and deft touch to how locations in Fallout 3 are built that is not replicated in New Vegas.
For all that game's strengths - better story and dialogue - the "set design" didn't match the level of Fallout 3. Bethesda did an amazing job with setting up their environments in that game.
@Renzo would find these little environmental stories all the time. I get so focused on goals, I'd frequently forget to look around.
Oh yeah, I loved that stuff. My favorite was being in a long sewer tunnel and seeing a skeleton hanging off a small pipe on the ceiling from his neck. A few feet behind him was a ramp. Waaayyy further down the tunnel was a wrecked motorcycle.
Dude tried to jump a ramp, caught his neck on the pipe, and died instantly.

All this talk of nasty critters makes me remember the Wanamingos from Fallout 2. I would not want to see those translated to full 3D. I did always like the called shot screen for them though, "The eyes?"
Edit: Oh God, I GIS'd Wanamingos to see the called shot screen and I saw images from an FO3 mod that added them. Just as terrible as I feares they'd look. Ugh.

Kotaku assures everyone that most of the rumors are bullshit. Also there was a casting call for male and female voice actors.
Its Kotaku, but I'll believe them over reddit.
Figured as much.
A lot of weird things in that "leak" that don't really jive with Bethesda games. Can't see save transfers ever becoming a thing for one. TES and Fallout have their own lore but each installment is fairly self contained and isolated from the last.
I doubt we'll hear much about what went on in DC to begin with outside of the BOS maybe making mention of the struggle with The Enclave over resources.

You've never been to Switzerland then. You could dip your whole body in a vat of delicious honey, cover youself in blood, and sleep naked in the woods all year long, and no harm would befall you from Mother Nature. Everything that could harm a human being has long since been eradicated. That's pretty much true for all of Western Europe. A handful of bears and wolves do still exist in some places, but as soon as they venture anywhere near civilization, they'll be preventively shot before long.
I can't imagine how places like India manage to keep live Tigers around, given that hundreds of people die every year to them. You'd get one kid eaten by a tiger around here, all of tigerkind would go extinct in a forthnight. Well, maybe the modern pussified/enlightend Europeans of today would not act so rashly, or so Europeans would like to think at least. I'd say, if we had animals like Kobras and Trapdoor Spiders in Europe, we'd kill 'em all soon enough, even today. You can bet your ass there were dangerous animals in Western Europe at some point, beyond bears and wolves. Spiders and snakes and big cats and what have you. They're all dead now. It's not so bad really, not having to worry a Tiger will have you for lunch while you work the field.
Its a discussion about which part of the world, if sufficiently irradiated by Fallout radiation, would produce the most ridiculously deadly ecosystem.

Debating about re-installing NV. On the one hand, going Clint Eastwood on raiders, on the other hand, Cazadores.
I'm playing through NV right now for the first time. Fast traveled to Jacobstown when it was in the middle of a Cazadore attack that claimed a big horner and Lily before I could even register what was going on.
Had no idea they were that close to Jacobstown.
Never seen one of the settlements get attacked before aside from the occassional raider outside of Mccarran fighting NCR guards or what have you.
It's the only time I've a real attack like that so I decided to just roll with it and leave her dead. Stuff like that is supposed to be part of the engines charm.
I was surprised to see a cazadore up there too, I've yet to see them anywhere other than the plains around vault 22.

I hope if they institute cars in this game, you lose it immediately and are left only with a trunk...
Or never have cars, I'd rather the world not be super barren.
Problem is if there's cars, it'll be immediately compared to Mad Max even more. And you goddamned right if they're in it, I wanna steal the Giga-Horse and have the Doof Wagon chase me around with its flame-throwing guitar player.
So why aren't Fallout-like RPG games happing in Sim City-like sandboxes? You know, with very elaborate AI-systems simulating every aspect of post-nuclear life? And allowing the player to have similar impact on the world. Not on a macro level like in a city builder game, but by being a citizen of such a complex simulation? Also - why can't we shape the environments like that either? Digging ditches, burning down houses, blowing craters into the ground, tunneling through a mountain?
So we can drag a cheesewheel up a mountain and roll it down its flank. Big whoop! Where is the more ambitious Fallout game of the future? Still firmely in the future. I guess 'til then, more of the same old gamebryo/creation engine shenannigans will do, but I am kinda disappointed that it just seems like more of the same, maybe a tiny bit better, rather than something more ambitious as described above.
I think my issue with cars or vehicles is that very few open world games do the right, and in fall out the idea of just driving around is not what brings me in the door. I want smaller more detailed environments, not spread out empty wasteland with the occasional interesting thing.
I would like some money because these are artisanal nuggets of wisdom philistine.
