so I don't know if you guys heard about Lotteria

it's a quick service burger chain that operates all around SE asia

their japanese branches, however, usually have some really amazing stuff that's unique to them

like this burger with rice instead of beef

    lotteria-japan-mongolian-rice-bowl-burger.jpg

or this strawberry sauce "dessert" burger

    lotteria-burger-with-strawberry-sauce.jpg

or a chocolate and honey mustard chicken sandwich

    lotteria-japan-chocolate-mustard-chicken-sandwich.jpg

and, last but not least: The Cheeseburger With Large Cubes Of Bacon

Those last three pictures prove that if your culture will roast insects on a stick and eat them, they will eat anything.

Deep fry me some insects and give me a mayo based sauce to dip them in, and I've got no problem scarfing them down.

Last night on Chopped they had a judges competition

that was also a leftovers competition.

One of them took leftover tuna noodle casserole, threw it in a food processor, added some flour, and made dumplings.

And apparently it was insanely delicious.

    Apparently it was!

The entree round he made a "leftovers frittata" which apparently he does all the time where he just takes whatever meats and veggies are in the leftovers and makes a frittata from them.

    indeed I do

Although I love my insect friends, I also admire their potential as an alternative food source

Mealworms turn surprisingly like sprinkles when baked

    Put them on baked goods!

It does sound like a good idea, but while I'm not pretending at all to be a healthy food nut, I do try to avoid the obviously bad for you noodle + bread carb combo.

The most efficient insects for nutrition:mass:cleanliness are actually roaches

I already farm them for my beardie. May have to toss some in the oven once I have a few full-size adults to spare.

Blaptica dubia, for now. They reach a good size, aren't too picky about most things beyond needing some heat, and mature quickly. Plus they don't need substrate, so cleaning is easy.

How crunchy are they? This is very important.

Also, cleanliness meaning they're clean and neat creatures?

The only way I'm going to eat bugs is if they're processed beyond all recognition.

Like how I'll eat whole lobster only if there's not the option to have a lobster roll.

I don't claim to be rational, just give me my highly-processed bug bar with added flavour and let me be in whatever post-apocalyptic / cyberpunk world we've ended up in.

The only bugs I will ever eat are ones that accidentially fell into the deep frier are and disguised as a piece of fried chicken skin.
