Made it about halfway through the story before our router crapped out and I had to cut my 24 hour stream about 14 hours early. Still, managed to get this gem from really early on.

This game is a blast and all, but where are my challenge rooms goddamn it!?!

They're called AR challenges. They don't work exactly the same, but they seem to be meant as the replacement.

I haven't actually done any, but the predator challenge has the same three star system with three different requirements as the previous games.

They really aren't the same. The VR missions aren't very challenging and mostly act as tutorials. It only takes a few tries to get 3 stars. I have only a handful to play and some are even Batmobile challenges. The real Challenge Rooms will be added in via Season Pass DLC. You can't do any VR stuff as any character but Batman (except for the moments where you train Azrael).

There are combat challenges with a scoring system like the one in previous games and there are predator challenges with specific goals for stars.

I can't say with any certainty whether it has the extreme challenges, as I haven't beaten the game yet.

    Wondering if there are any secret quality-of-life shortcuts like in Witcher 3, notably;

Is there a way to cancel getting into the bat-mobile after calling it?

Is there a quicker way to switch to remote controlling the bat-mobile (than opening the gadget wheel) for those puzzles where you're expected to swap back and forth?

Clearly the poor performance on PC is a Scarecrow ploy much like the console errors in the first game! THOSE DEVIOUS FIENDS! It's been working fine all along!!!

Why do these consoles need to be destroyed in gel? Why can't Batman just fist it like he did in Arkham City?

    You know what I love?
I love that speed = height.
    Got the max grapple boost.
After grappling you can just hold down and pull up without needing to dive and you get so much height.
Do it off a high enough building all three islands are just spread out below you.
And then you can see militia watchtowers, or fires, or enemy vehicles below you, pick your target, and dive down to deliver justice.
    I am the Knight.

(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.

Eurogamer absolutely loved the PS4 version; unless they patch in massive improvements to the PC version, I expect that's the one I'll get. I'm surprised that they fuck up such a big release on PC to such an extent... but then I remember what I've read and heard about Assassin's Creed: Unity, which was similarly big and a similar mess.

The Batmobile really isn't that bad. I wish I could switch L2 and Square though. I know it would make it harder to fire or move the camera for some, but my gangly hands would be fine. I don't want the buttons switched outside of the Batmobile though, so I can't remap them at the system level.

Game looks great and I'm enjoying being the night again. I want more games to copy the combat from this series.

So buying the PS4 certain off the US PSN store with my credit card knocked out down to £30! That's awesome! Coupled with the greenmangaming key for Steam that cost £22 I paid less than the price of the UK PSN STORE! Haha 2 versions for the price of less than one!

Now they just need to fix the pc version but I'm in no rush anymore.

Why do there seem to be so few Riddler trophies? The game says that there are over 300, but interrogating a guy only reveals like, 2, and I'm not finding them casually like I did in previous games

Also, what's the purpose of the breakable objects that are also revealed by Riddler thugs? They don't seem to count as trophies.

On a different note, holy shit are there a lot of upgrades to buy. It's a bit overwhelming. Are any of them required to get collectibles?

I almost feel left out since I've had zero performance issues on my PC. I see momentary slowdown and jitters when a new set-piece or big section is coming up or ending, but that's it. The main thing bothering me is that I can't come up with any suspect for the Arkham Knight that doesn't feel a bit disappointing.

I can run it fine as well, though it is obviously very poorly optimized. Turning on any of the special Nvidia settings other than Enhanced Rain causes the framerate to drop below 30

This game is great! Like holy fucking balls!

Early-ish game spoilers, just after ACE Chemicals
Wowwwwww! Kudos to Rocksteady/WB for keeping Mark Hamill a secret up to release. I literally jumped when imaginary Joker popped up outta nowhere. I absolutely love how they've incorporated (imaginary) Joker into the game.

The bit about the people who've been poisoned with his blood becoming him because of that is pretty lame, though.

Combat is amazing! All the new options are fantastic, and multi-takedowns are so fucking badass. NOt very far into the story, around 14%, I think. The feeling I get from it so far is like the feeling I got the first time I played Mass Effect 3. Like, man... this is some serious shit, and it's gonna take its toll on Batman.

The Harley Quinn stuff was ok, I guess. Kinda short and lame-ish. It was cool to get a glimpse of what it's like in her head, though. She's great in combat, but there's like no challenge rooms now? I unlocked one combat AR challenge, but selecting it from the main menu still only let me play as Batman.

Also, did anyone else(very early game spoilers, first time at GCPD)
Knock out the merc guy from the car chase? He was in his cell with his broken arm talking shit. I slowly walked up to him and let him talk some more, and then I wondered what would happen if I hit the attack button. Batman reached through the bars and banged the dude's head againt them. It was awesome!

The blood plot point is so damn goofy, I'm not sure whether to take it at face value.

With challenge rooms being entirely DLC, it's pretty terrible that all of the alternate characters, including Harley who had a lot of work put into her psychosis stuff, are behind the paywall. WB really does suck

It took forever last night to download the patch and the extra content, but I finally got to play it some for a grand total of 30 minutes before I needed to go to bed.

Oh well. So far the game is fantastic all around. I love that it pretty directly follows the events of City.

And so far I don't hate the Batmobile stuff as much as I thought I would. It's not terribe, just not that exciting. The controls are a bit loose on it, and the tank sections are just kinda boring. Anything dealing with Batman though is amazing.

And the perp in the police station:
It never felt so good to slam someone's face into the prison bars.

Also, I really like Ivy's new look. It is so much better than Asylum and City's version of her. Much more realistic and less goofy.

Oh, I would have expected a progress bar or something to pop up. Maybe I need to advance the story further first. I DID leave off right where you have to go confront The Riddler at the orphanage, so would be a good point for his content to become active

I was enjoying going through the little museum in the GCPD. If anyone wants proof that Rocksteady do consider Origins to be part of the Arkham universe, that museum is it.

Also, the bit on the Electrocutioner gauntlets was funny when it talked about Batman using them after Joker kills him, but then stopped using them because he likes punching dudes the old fashioned way.

There's a lot of cool stuff so far...I dunno, it just has a better "feel" to it than City did for me. City felt limited, I guess because it was restricted to that one map, but there's SO MUCH SHIT you can do in this that you have a much better sense of freedom. I'm even enjoying the Batmobile, though I wasn't exactly fond of the first couple of platforming sections.

I have this horrible feeling about the plot, don't read this unless you're at least 50% through
the fifth person turning into Joker is Batman. And the game is going to end with Batman being the new Joker and Azreal being the new Batman.

Not looking for any confirm/deny though.

Oh yeah, and because I didn't know this for ages, the 60mm cannon one shotting drones when it hits the sensor does not count as a critical hit. You have to use the vulcan cannon to do the same thing for a crit. So if you're struggling to get the high scores on Batmobile challenges, now you know.

I'm loving the game so far, but holy cow do I feel bad for anyone for whom this is the first Batman game they've tried playing, because I feel like they flipped the pendulum this time from "oh my god I get it, stop saying PRESS A TO BURP every ten seconds" in Asylum and City to "eh, they'll figure it out" with half of Batman's abilities. Like, I'm three hours into the game and I suddenly noticed I just have the Batclaw and the Line Launcher. There's a lot of AR training for new things, but I was surprised how the game just immediately assumed you totally understand how freeflow works.

  • Skull2185Skull2185 Registered User regular
That's how it was from Asylum to City. Rocksteady just assumes you remember your stuff from the previous game. I kinda appreciate it, but a light refresher wouldn't be so bad...

Also, what's killing me isn't the button confusion about pulling LT and switching to tank mode. It's that every time I'm in a freeflow combat, I instinctively hit X+LB to set up an explosive charge on the ground and instead I summon the fucking Batmobile

My first major fight in Knight was a large group of thugs hanging out in the streets. My muscle memory for this franchise immediately kicked in and I decimated them with the most awesome array of Bat punching and flipping that you've ever seen. I was all "Yup, I'm still Batman!" I love this series.
