All races except Togruta and Cathar can be unlocked just by getting one of those characters to 50, which is what I did on those races because there is something wrong with me. Togruta and Cathar can only be unlocked with a, well, unlock, but you can buy those on the GTN if you have enough cheese. You can in fact buy any unlock on the GTN.

I figured out last night what's really drawn me back in to this game: Easy access to purple lightsaber crystals. When the game released, the closest thing to purple was actually pink and it was rare and expensive. All I really wanted was a purple crystal Bioware, geez.

Togrutas are pretty cheap these days too; going price is only 800K on Covenant.

Any know of any decent Empire guilds on Jedi Covenant? I know there isn't a PA one anymore, and Dominis Nihil is republic.

Stuff your legacy gear full of mods and set your alts up for life

This might be worth it, but if you have a few 60s you're also playing, you probably have so many basic comms that you can just buy fresh mods for all your alts and companions whenever you need them. With several 60s, it's definitely possible to reach a point where your basic comms overfloweth.

DN has an Imp-side guild, "Masters of Nothing".

man, it just occurred to me that I haven't played the current expansion at all

they never have let you buy those with cartel coins, have they? Apparently I have 4200 on my account (thanks authenticator)

Not that I can see. The expansions have to be bought separately. Revan is 20 bucks I think.

So I started playing this again with a couple of friends. I played for a couple of months when the game was released, haven't really touched the game since. But now I have that MMO itch again, and it seems I'm totally over WoW for the time being, so SWTOR it is.

I'll probably end up subscribing pretty soon if it looks like the game can hold my interest. The character creation screen makes it seem like all races would be available for both factions if I unlock them, which I guess happens for some/all races if I subscribe? Do I have to make a new character to take advantage of newly unlocked races, or is there a race change option somewhere?

Also I wanted to play a melee DPS with a tanking option so I went Jedi Shadow. Seems kinda okayish so far, and the tank spec looks interesting although I haven't tried it yet. Her mobility seems a bit lacking though. Is this a reasonable class for someone who would also like to PvP a lot? It's early so I could easily reroll something else.

As for races / class combos, this wiki page has a table which seems to list the default options, though I believe non-subscribers might be further restricted to only the Human, Cyborg, and Zabrak races. And once you've 'unlocked' a race (buying an unlock or leveling one to level fifty), you can use it for any class.

Edit: Oh, and the cost of changing race after character creation via the Appearance Designer is 1200 cartel coins, or 792 cartel coins if you are a subscriber.

Quite a few people seem to be coming back, so here is my referral link if anyone wants it. http://www.swtor.com/r/qnTQSy Some nice stuff for returning players, including 7 days free and a character transfer.

Also, has anyone been to Ziost before level 60? I ditched Makeb as soon as I hit 55, but now I'm worried my operative won't be able to get enough out of SOR to make it to 60 and I really don't want to grind dailies I already maxed rep for just to get XP.

Transferred my Guardian to Jedi Covenant. I had nothing really tying me to Shadowlands, and it seems like JC is the place to be.

Just a character. He switched from my Darksight legacy on Shadowlands to my Grayfury legacy on JC. All my money and stuff came with him. It was 90 CC's and took about 45 seconds. Pretty easy/fast process, and if you want to transfer back at some point, it's a 7D cooldown at 90 CC isn't that much.

It should be mentioned that if you dont have a Legacy set up on the server your transferring to your legacy will come with you. And if you do have a legacy, whichever is higher will take priority (but you may keep the name of the existing legacy on the server you're transferring, I'm not 100% on that).

Also if you DO have an existing legacy on the receiving server, the two will merge.

Hrm... been gone for a while (left before the stronghold things were released). The expansion intrigues me, though. Looking at the site, it's saying I have until the 10th to resub to get the new companion and all the other perks before this thing drops in October. My question is, for someone who's been gone for a while will there be enough to keep me busy/entertained for the next 2-3 months (or in other words, is it worth dropping more $$$ on this to get caught up)?

That depends on what you enjoy doing. Do you like playing class stories? 12x xp makes it so you don't have to do any non-story stuff unless you really want to. PVP and raids are pretty much the same as ever. There are a LOT of daily areas you can do if that's your thing, as well.

I would say the Shadow of Revan stuff is worth doing too. Better than Makeb by a lot.

Yeah, Revan definitely has the quality of all the class stories, with the added bonus of having dialogue/camerawork that benefits from years of feedback and experience

I am certainly humming and hawing about wanting to come back to at least see some of the Revan stuff, especially if it's better then Makeb which was alright.

The difference between Revan and Makeb was astounding, for me. Perhaps the biggest jump in quality between single expansions that I've seen in an MMO

Oh yeah, definitely way better than Makeb. My only gripe with it is that you can easily finish everything and only end up at 59 if you had already done all the Forged Alliances stuff previously. Less of a gripe ever since I started taking scavenging and bioanalysis on all my characters, however!

I'd say that if you want to come back and check out the Revan expansion, it might as well be now. You'll get some free stuff for the next expansion that will stay with your account forever, and there is probably plenty enough to do to keep you occupied until it is released.

Ok, the only thing about the Masters of Nothing guild is that you can *only* have a toon in there if your main is pub side. So sorry, this probably isn't going to work if you don't have a pub main.

I don't really know a lot about imp side guilds, but I've run with Hellbent a few times. The only thing about them is that they are a friggin' huge guild.

    Empire rules. Republic drools.

But, seriously, I've finished all four Imperial classes, but find the Republic class stories so boring. I was kind of into smuggler until I hit chapter 2 and it became a snooze fest.

I don't know if all the same writers are involved in all the story arcs, but it definitely feels as though the republic ones are more prone to settling into 'good guy' RPG tropes than their imperial counterparts. Some of this is because good imperial characters get to play against type, but still.

If you're talking about the upcoming expansion, as of right now the only way to get it is to be subbed when it drops (no extra charge involved). If you are not subbed, you don't get access. Presumably you keep your access when you let your sub lapse though.

  • VeagleVeagle Registered User regular
Yeah it looks like after the expansion hits, you will get everything just from subbing, and will keep them after the sub ends. Details buried in one of their support pages.
    5. Can I still get Knights of the Fallen Empire if I don’t have Rise of the Hutt Cartel or Shadow of Revan?
All subscribers will receive access to Rise of the Hutt Cartel and Shadow of Revan starting on October 27, 2015.

    9. What if I unsubscribe from Star Wars: The Old Republic after October?
If you unsubscribe after October 27, 2015, you will keep the first 9 Chapters of Knights of the Fallen Empire, but will not receive any additional Chapters when they are released.

I don't think subscribing currently includes the Shadow of Revan expansion, just the Rise of the Hutt Cartel expansion. It certainly will include SoR once the new expansion comes out in October, though.

Subscribing does not currently include Revan. I had to buy it separately to keep leveling my Juggy.

I was in the Alea Iacta Est (AIE) guild.
(I needed a US server for when TRE goes down, or everyone just goes to sleep, and at that time I was mainly on imp side.)
They're a very casual and friendly bunch. I think they even refer to themselves as a "Casual Progression" guild.
(Same as my Main Server guilds.)

If you want to check them out, and listen to what they've been up to the last week, check out "SWTOR Escape Pod Cast". Run by Max and Sema.
In the latest episode (ep. 102) they went into a little more detail about why they are running old NiM ops.
